Finger foods

Tuesday, July 3, 2019
Mom was sitting at the dining table looking petulant.  She refused to eat her dinner or anything else.
She reached for the half banana.  I peeled it and handed it to her.  She broke off a small piece.  She ate it and said it was good.  Then, she put the rest of the banana in her plate of pureed food.  I fished it out.  I chopped up the banana into smaller pieces.  I put a piece on the side of the plate.  She once again put it in her plate of food.  I put a piece of banana in her hand.  She ate it.  She fished out the piece that was in her pureed food and ate that piece as well.  I took the rest of the banana and added it to her chocolate pudding.  She ate some of my garlic bread and drank her fortified Boost.
She played with her food while I carted our stuff to the fish tank room.
She ate some Cheetos.
I gave her some bubble wrap to play with.
Later when she grew tired of the bubble wrap, I presented her with my leftover chocolate cream pie.  She mixed it around with her spoon, but did not eat any of it.  I took the dish and gave her back the bubble wrap.  I put the chocolate pudding and banana mixture with the chocolate cream pie.
I gave mom some of the chicken skin to show Chris.  She ate some, but then broke it up into small pieces and started playing with it by putting the crumbs into two piles.
I reintroduced the chocolate pudding mixture.  She mixed it up and started to eat it.
She also continued to eat Cheetos and drink milk.
I tried to get her to drink the Yakult, but she complained it was too cold.  I poured it into her milk.
I got in contact with the dietitian today.  She confirmed that she had my waiver regarding finger foods.  She apologized for not being aware of the waiver.  She said mom could have finger foods as a snack: sandwiches, cheese and banana.  It may take a week or two before this comes into effect. I tried to convey to her that mom wanted to be independent but needed guidance.  She wasn't listening.  She said that she had seen the aides help mom.  What the aides try to do is shovel food into the residents' mouths.  Mom wants to feed herself.
