Jaywalking, sanpo, colouring and bubble wrap.

Sunday, January 10th.

Slept in this morning until just before 9:00 a.m.
Mom said she thought that I had disappeared.
I was in the bedroom, but the door was closed.

Mom had tea with milk and honey.
We had cream of wheat with butter, milk, and maple syrup.
Peanut butter toast and bacon.

Mom always encourages me to jaywalk.
I try to explain that her neighbour got hit by a car and died.
Mom says everyone does it.
She gets angry with me when I don't jaywalk.

Saturday morning when I went to pick mom up, she wasn't there.  She had taken the keys, but all her jackets were there.  She showed up a few minutes later.  She usually just goes around the block.
She was wearing a hat and a light fleecy.

She always gets mad if the bus doesn't show up in a minute or so.
She tries to blame me.  It doesn't help when the bus doesn't come on time.

Mom is still loving her bubble wrap.  I bought some from the dollar store, but maybe I can buy it in bulk.  Someone even mentioned never-ending bubble wrap.

I bought mom a colouring book and crayons at the dollar store.  She quite enjoyed it.  Of course, I had to cue her a lot.  She couldn't decide on a colour and she wasn't sure what parts to colour, but she was pleased with the results.  I think this is worth investing in better quality crayons and colouring book.

New Year's Day 2016

Friday, January 1, 2016
Mom had a nap after breakfast.
Mom had diarrhea this morning.  I wonder if it is the side effect of her medication.  Just like frequent urination at night is a side effect.
Anyways she was fine and we were able to take the bus to my place before lunch.
Mom had a nap after lunch.
I told her that we were going to a New Year's day party, but she insisted that she was too sick to go.
I told her that her friends would be there, but she still didn't want to go.
When E. and J. came to pick us up she asked if she was going home, but I told her we were going to the party.  She asked if it was far and I said no.  Luckily she came.
Unfortunately we had a difficult time finding a place to sit.  All her "friends" were saving seats for their families.  It was rather awkward.  I feel sad that mom has no friends.
Finally, a space was made for us.  Mom didn't eat very much.  She got mad at me when I ate what she thought was too much dessert. Mom enjoyed the entertainment.
The bubble wrap kept her busy until around 8:00 p.m.  Also, I brought a cushion for her to sit on.
Luckily the party ended shortly after that.

Boxing Day

Saturday, December 26, 2015
Mom is still complaining about not being told about going to Ethel's place for dinner.
Thankfully that did not prevent her from eating a good breakfast.
Mom helped dry breakfast dishes and did some vacuuming.
We did some exercises.  She said she felt a bit stiff and not herself with the floor exercises.
We watched "The Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Milan.
She's napping now.

Christmas dinner

Friday, December 25, 2015
It was a late night for both mom and me.
Mom thought she was going home to her place.
She wasn't happy about going to Ethel's for Christmas dinner.
She complained the whole time and didn't eat very much.
She hardly ate any of the turkey or ham so I was going to eat her leftovers, but she got mad at me.
She told me not to eat too much.
She wouldn't even eat the pumpkin pie.
I ended up eating her pie too.
I ate too much.
Thank heavens for bubble wrap to get us through the evening.

Mystery of the box of cookies

Thursday, December 24th, 2015

I had left a box of cookies for mom's volunteer visitor, but she never came.  Today I noticed the box was opened.  Mom said she didn't know anything about it.  Then, mom said the box was empty.  I checked and was shocked!  I checked the snack cupboard and some of the cookies were there so I put them in a container with a lid.  I wonder if she had given the other layer of cookies to someone.  I hope so or she must have eaten quite a few cookies.

Mom's developed quite the sweet tooth.
I noticed that she had already gotten into the package of shortbread cookies she had received from her daycare today.  She had only eaten two, but I suspect she had already plenty of sweets today.

Mom said she wasn't taking a bath.  Her feet smelt clean so I assume she had a bath last night.

Another evening of bubble wrap and Home Alone.  They play that movie a lot during the holidays.

Sunday, December 20, 2015

I'm a bad mom.  I'm keeping mom occupied with bubble wrap and television.  She really enjoys "Home Alone."  Interestingly, she didn't complain about watching "Cougar Town."

Yesterday she was quite contrary.  but today she seems quite content.  Although she ate all her meals, she said nothing tasted good except for the piece of chocolate I gave her and the peanut butter and honey toast.  We went to visit Uncle at the hospital after his hip replacement surgery.  Mom complained all the way there, but she was in good form.  We had to take a bus and transfer to a skytrain and then there was a bit of a hike to the hospital, but she did it all.  She had to climb a lot of stairs.

This morning we had banana pancakes and bacon.  She ate two pancakes and one slice of bacon with gusto.  She had two cups of tea sweetened with honey.  I always worry that she is getting dehydrated.
Her skin is still not good.  I've been applying Vaseline and coconut oil and it's getting better, but it still hasn't completely healed.

Close call.

Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015
There was an event at the Nikkei Centre today.  I went to forage for food, but they didn't have much.  I got some futomaki, inarisushi and some chicken teriyaki at the store.  I cut up the chicken into smaller pieces for mom.  She told me that the chicken smelt funny.  Sure enough, I caught a whiff of mold.  Good thing mom's sense of smell is still good.
