I arrived at 4:00 p.m. Mom was sitting at the dining table alone. I took her to her room to toilet her. I asked one of the aides if my mom had been toileted but she didn't know. She was kind of snarky about it. Now I think that they only change the diaper once in the shift. The shift is 8 hours. They probably don't care if the residents are fed either because then they would produce fewer dirty diapers.
Anyways, I toileted mom. She did a poop. She complained that her bum hurt. She tried to use her left hand to poke the poop out. I stopped her. I wrapped toilet paper around her hand. I used my gloved hand with toilet paper to squish the poop out. No wonder she doesn't want to eat.
I cleaned her up and she thanked me.
Then, I tried to clean her nails. I filled up a small tub with warm water and soap and tried to get her to soak her hands in it. At first, she was apprehensive. Gradually she let me put her hands in the water.
I sat mom at the dining table shortly after 5:00. Our dinners were a long time coming. Edward was served first, then Jacquie. Donna's dinner was taken to her room. Mom's came next and mine was last. Mom refused to eat. She did drink all of her Boost that was laced with medication. She drank some of her apple juice.
Jacquie showed me some photos of a suite in a building for 55+. $1,300/month. It really wasn't much.
Mom started to eat after everyone had left. She ate most of her pureed broccoli and very little of her pudding.
I took mom to the fish tank room. Some of the residents were playing Black Jack. I cut mom's nails and filed them. Then, I tried feeding her again. She drank some of her milk and ate some of her pudding.
Jacquie was singing some Irish Songs.
