Marriage

Sunday, November 29, 2015
Today mom asked me again whether or not I was married.  I told her that I was married, but now I was divorced.  Usually she ends there, but today she kept going.  She said I really should get married.  She asked me if there was anyone.  I told her that AH wasn't married.  She said he was a boy so it was okay for him not to be married, but I was a girl and should be married.  Mom expressed regret that I wasn't married and apologized to me.  She felt that she wasn't doing enough for me.

Took half a day off work.  When I arrived at mom's place at 13:30 she wasn't there!  I guessed that she had gone for a walk.  Shortly after I arrived I got a call from mom's social worker.  Mom came home shortly after.  She had gone for a walk.  She was wearing a spring coat instead of a warm winter coat.  Although it was sunny outside it wasn't warm.
I decided to go ahead and wash her hair since I had to leave in an hour and a half and I didn't know how long the visit with the social worker would be.  The social worker arrived just as I had finished washing mom's hair, but I still had to blow dry.  The social worker talked to mom as I did her hair.  Masako was satisfied that mom was doing well.
I noticed that the bathtub was dirty so cleaned it.  I assume she had a bath this week.
I gave mom ice cream and bananas as a snack.  She was in a good mood.

Lost key

Monday, November 23, 2015

Someone called and left a message on my answering machine telling me that mom wanted me to phone her.  Mom had apparently gone over to a neighbour's place complaining that a robber had stolen everything and that she wanted her to call me.  (Mom can't used the telephone to call out.)  I called her as soon as I got home.
I figured out that mom had lost her key, but I couldn't verify it until I talked to AH who didn't arrive until 6:30 p.m.  As I thought, the key was not in the drawer where it was supposed to be.  I surmised that it must be in a coat pocket.  I told AH to look in the coat pockets.  I told him that it was probably in the pocket of a tan jacket with a high collar.  This jacket was like felt.  I told him this jacket could be in one of the closets or on her bed.  After about an hour and much arguing he found the jacket on the bed and the key.  Thank heavens!  If he didn't find the key, I would have had to go there.

E-mails were sent to the social worker from the activities coordinator and myself.

Mom didn't go to daycare on Thursday.  She said she was sick.  She did sound phlegmy.
Her nose doesn't seem particularly runny and she's not coughing.

On Friday, she seemed fine.  She had a good appetite.  I gave her a bath and washed her hair and that made her happy.

Saturday she was in a good mood until the bus came late and was very crowded.  We came back to my place for a bit and then went to meet friends at the restaurant.  It was very crowded and noisy and it took a long time for our table to be ready. Mom was upset so I took her back home.  I think she was tired and hungry.  I made her some cream of wheat with milk, butter and maple syrup.  I made her peanut butter toast with maple syrup.  I played Home Alone for her on the DVD player and she was happy.  I went back to restaurant and had appetizers.  Service was really slow.  I went back home again to check up on mom and she was fine watching the video.  I went back to the restaurant to finish my meal.

This morning she was in a good mood.  She slept a lot.  She had a good appetite.

Mom was in a good mood.
It was a beautiful day.
Mom told me that she had gone for a walk in the morning.
I made a kind of nikujaga domburi for lunch.
Mom liked it.
She was very tired after lunch and dishes and fell asleep on the couch.
Chris was supposed to do dinner.
I went shopping to Metrotown.
At 6:30 p.m. on my way home, I got a call from AH.  He had forgotten to make dinner for mom.  He said he had called her and she said she was fine.  I thought I'd better check in on her.
She was fine.  She had eaten the breakfast I had prepared for her for dinner.
I gave her some ice cream and some oranges for a snack and prepared another breakfast for her.
She was looking forward to going to New Vista in the morning.
She didn't think her hair looked good.  I told her that the helper was coming between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m. tonight and would help her wash her hair.

Peanut butter toast
Mom was in a good mood this morning.
I gave her a cup of warm milk when I arrived.
I made miso soup with wakame, tofu and green onions.
Cucumber and baby tomato salad. Chinese broccoli. Reheated deep fried squid in the frying pan. Leftover oyako domburi.
I washed mom's hair and picked out an outfit for tonight's dinner.
Gave mom a glass of water and vitamins.
It was pouring rain today.
Mom was upset that droplets were forming on her coat.
She thought her coat was old.  I told her that it was new, but she didn't believe me.
After grocery shopping we came back to my place and I made her peanut butter toast with butter and honey.  She looked at it and said it was too much.  I told her not to worry, because I would eat it.
After she had eaten two pieces, she noticed that I had already eaten 3 and was working on my 4th.  She told me that she would be able to eat it after all.  It made me laugh.  She said it was very good.  I told her that I would make it for her tomorrow too.

Sick and dying
This morning when I called mom she seemed fine, but then she started to get progressively negative.  When I told her that I was coming at dinner, she got upset.  She said she was expecting me earlier.  She said she was very sick and was probably going to die before I got there.  She said that I was very cold and didn't care.  Sigh...

Mom turned away the cleaning lady again.  Sigh...  She says she can do her own housework.

Mom really enjoyed her dinner with no complaints.
She ate really well.  We had oyako donburi, Chinese broccoli, baby tomatoes and candied tiny fish.

She said she didn't need a hair wash and she had already taken a bath yesterday.

I was preparing her a snack of mandarin oranges and warm milk, when she told me that I needn't spend so much time on her.  She said that it was dark and the weather was bad so I should hurry home.  She said that I had already missed one bus and that I should hurry.  This was true, but how did she know?  Is she just saying that?

Also, she said that I didn't have to worry about coming so early tomorrow.  What was that about?

Walking

The person who makes dinner for mom on Thursdays reported that mom was outside when she arrived.  Mom informed her that she had just come back from a walk.  May said that mom was not wearing a hat or gloves and appeared to be cold.

I got a call from St. Elizabeth.  Mom was not answering her buzzer.  When I called, she said she had been taking a bath.  I called a few minutes later and the support worker told me that everything was fine.

Mom was in a good mood this morning.  We had toast, boiled egg, bacon and apple crisp with yogurt.
Mom slept most of the morning.  When she got up I had to play "Home Alone" to keep her occupied.  I made salmon sandwiches, soup and salad.  She liked everything.

At mom's place, I did the laundry, changed her sheets, vacuumed, did grocery shopping etc.
I made boiled pumpkin and gave her some for a snack.
I made miso soup with daikon, onion and wakame for tomorrow.
We had bow tie pasta with a meat sauce for dinner.  She told me she ate it everyday.  I think she says that when she doesn't really like something.  She ate all the salad and Chinese broccoli.
We had apple crisp and ice cream for dessert.  She really like it.

I told her that she would be staying home tomorrow.  Usually she is happy to have a rest, but today she said that she might like to go out.  I said that M. would come and make lunch for her.  She said that M. had gone away.  I brought out a photo of M.  Mom usually likes M.  Anyways mom seemed disappointed that she wasn't going to New Vista.
