Clean diaper

Sunday, December 30, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna.  My setting was not there.  Edward and Jacquie's settings were in disarray.  Donna said some people had been sitting with them earlier, but they had left.  I think it may have been a church group.
We had macaroni with beef, tomato and cheese.  It was good.  Dessert was tapioca pudding.  Yum!  Mom was uncooperative at first, but she did eat about half of her food.  She did not eat her banana, but she drank all her beverages.  She ate about 1/3 of her pureed pear.  I gave her some of my tapioca pudding.
After dinner, I toileted her.  Her diaper was clean and she didn't even pee.
I combed her hair, wiped her face and brushed her teeth.  I didn't use toothpaste because she just swallows the water.  She doesn't spit it out.
I took her for a walk and we looked at her photo book.
We did a little exercise.
Donna and Joan were already put to bed.  I took mom to sit in the fish tank room.  The Black Jack table was closing.  I sat her with the Chinese lady.
Mom was not upset today.  She calmly said good-bye and she smiled.

Saturday 29 December 2018

Mom ate a lot

Saturday, December 29, 2018
I arrived shortly after an afternoon coffee event.  Mom, Zorka and Donna were sitting together.  Donna knew I was mom's daughter.  Zorka asked mom, but she didn't know.  I was taking mom to her room to toilet her, but the aide said they had just toileted her and it had taken two of them because mom was aggressive.  I thought I would check just in case, because I could smell something.  It was only pee.  I changed mom's diaper.
I got mom to walk around and took photos of her posing by the Christmas trees.  We went through her photo book a couple of times.
Dinner was served quite late today.  It was cabbage rolls.  It looked good.  I cut up Donna's cabbage rolls for her and her brownie.  Donna can't see very well.
Mom had pureed beets.  They looked like red jelly, but it tasted quite good.  Mom ate most of her meal, all her chocolate pudding and all her beverages.  I ate her banana.
After dinner, I took more photos and we walked around.  I sang some songs with her and she sang along.  We looked at her photobook again.
I was going to leave her at the nurses' station but there was no one I recognized so I left mom with Donna.  Mom was a little put out that I was leaving so soon.  I guess she must have had a good time.

Thursday 27 December 2018

Joe and Santos passed away.

Thursday, December 27, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Donna when I arrived.  I took her to her room to toilet her.  She held onto her diaper, but I convinced her to let it go.  I changed it because there was some poop on it.  Larry told me that he had changed a poopy diaper earlier.  I cleaned her up and took her to the fish tank room and we looked at her photo book for a few minutes.  I was going to get her to go for a walk, but she refused.  I wheeled her to the dining table.
Jacquie told me that Santos had passed away.  It was his liver.  I feel like I just saw him a few days ago.  Joe also passed away.  Jacquie said that he was in his 90's.  I thought he was younger.  I liked him.
Mom would not eat or drink anything.  The nurse was able to feed her her medication by adding sugar to the applesauce medication mixture.
After a while, mom let me start to feed her.  I alternated with pureed food and a sip of beverage.  Mom only opened her mouth a little and only ate a little off the spoon, but she let me put the spoon in her mouth twice.  Once in a while, she opened her mouth wider.  She ate about a third of her food.  She ate most of the pureed pear which was her dessert.  She did not even take one bite of the banana.
After dinner, I toileted her again.  There was some poop on her diaper.  I wiped it up with a towel.  But when I got her to stand, she pooped again.  I had to change her diaper.  She has diarrhea.  I cleaned her up and put her in a new diaper, but it will likely be soiled again quickly.

Monday 24 December 2018

Calendar and poinsettia

Monday, December 24, 2018
Mom was playing bingo when I arrived.  I took her to her room to toilet her.  She was cooperative.  She smelt like poop.  Her diaper was relatively clean, but I changed it anyway.  I cleaned her bum and washed her hands.  I combed her hair.
I went through her photo book with her.  We had just finished going through it a second time when Charlene showed up.  She brought a calendar from Aunti Sumi and a small poinsettia.
We took mom back to her room and put her in her wheelchair.  Donna just arrived to be changed.  We took mom to the dining room for eggnog.
Apparently, Ethel showed up half an hour later.
I have a bad cold and was wearing a mask.

Saturday 22 December 2018

Charlene and Ethel Visit

Saturday, December 22, 2018
Donna was waiting to play hit the balloon with a foam stick.  Mom was in the fish tank room.  I took mom back to the room to see if I could toilet her, but she wouldn't let me pull her pants down.  I let her play hit the balloon.  She enjoyed it.  Charlene and I went to check out the thrift store.  We saw Ethel walk in.  She was bringing stuffed animals for Donna and mom.  How sweet!
Charlene and Ethel talked while mom and Donna looked on.  I took the time to tidy mom's closet.  Mouse poop.  I also decided to toilet mom one last time.  This time she acquiesced.  She didn't want to sit down on the toilet, but I was able to remove her diaper and wipe her bum.
I wonder if the toilet seat is too cold.
I put Donna and mom in the fish tank room.  We didn't get coffee:(
I put the two stuffed hedgehogs by their beds.

Friday 21 December 2018

mouse poop and broken toilet

Friday, December 21, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Donna, Jacquie and Edward.  I was able to get mom to eat one teaspoon of squash.  She drank her Boost and her apple juice.  Jacquie's daughter is visiting from Costa Rico with her grandchildren.  They arrived last night.  Today they spent the day at the mall.  There is only a one hour time difference.
After everyone had finished their dinner, I put my chair on her other side and was able to feed her.  She ate most of her veggies and some of her mashed potatoes and chicken.  She ate almost all of her pudding and drank all of her milk.
I took her to her room to toilet her.  I got her to stand and get out of her wheelchair. She had a poopie diaper.  She also did poop in the toilet. When I stood her up, mom immediately tried to pull on her pants.  I had to stop her because we had to wipe her bum.  The aide wiped her bum and vulva.  Mom was fine.  We put the diaper on and voila!  I washed her hands in the sink.  I walked her over to play hit the balloon with the foam stick.
I played "war" with Michael while I waited for mom to finish her activity.  Mom didn't want to get out of the chair right away so I had to be patient.  In a few minutes, she was ready to go.  I walked her back to her room and put her in her wheelchair.  I gave her some bubble wrap and she happily popped it.  I wheeled her over to Donna.  I told Larry that he could give my mom bubble wrap if she was agitated.
There was mouse poop in mom's closet.  I reported it.
The toilet also seemed to be malfunctioning.  It kept flushing.  I noticed it last week too.  I reported it.

Wednesday 19 December 2018

Poopie diaper

Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018
Mom looked kind of grouchy when I arrived.  I couldn't smell anything.
She didn't eat when everyone was at the table.  After Jacquie left, I was able to start feeding mom.  She seemed happy and cooperative. She ate about 1/3 of her food, but not her banana.  She drank her apple juice and Boost.
Mom was dressed funny.  She had on an orange striped t-shirt, a beige striped t-shirt and a beige jacket with blue jogging pants.  At least she was dressed warmly.
After dinner, I thought I would toilet her.  I suspected a poopie diaper.  At first, mom didn't want to stand up, but I was able to coax her.  I walked her to the toilet and pulled her pants down.  She had done lots of poop in her diaper.  I sat her down quickly.  An aide came to help me.  I got mom to stand up so the aide could wipe her bum, but when she came to the front, mom started to whine and raised her arm.  I told the aide that I would wipe her front.  Mom was calm.  I wiped her bum again for good measure.  We put the diaper on mom and voila!
I washed mom's hands just in case.  Mom was shaking at the sink.  Maybe she was standing too long?  Chris and I took mom for a little walk.  She was fine.  We put her back in the wheelchair and put her in the fish tank room with other residents.  Donna and Joan waved goodbye after Chris left.

Monday 17 December 2018

The red sunset sky and after sunset sky

Monday, December 17, 2018
It was a wet and windy night.  Mom was seated at the dining table with Donna, Edward and Jacquie.
She had some Boost in her hand.  Mom wouldn't eat anything, but when I peeled a banana for her, she ate most of it.  After the others had left, I took mom's vanilla pudding and my apple juice back to her room.  I tried feeding her again at the dining table and lo and behold she started eating.  She ate most of her pureed peas and some meat.  She drank all of her Boost.
I took her to the horse race activity, but she refused to touch the die.  I cleaned some stuff off mom's left shoe.  It looked suspiciously like poop, but I couldn't smell anything. Her horse won so she got some chocolate.  I put half in her mouth and she ate it, but she said it didn't taste good.
I took her back to the room to toilet her.  I got her to eat some more pudding while we were waiting for the aide. The aide said she would help me.  The aide wasn't there so I just began the process myself.  I got mom to walk to the toilet, removed her diaper, sat her down, got a diaper and some towels, gave her some apple juice to drink while we waited for a bowel movement, etc.  The aide showed up.  She started to undress mom and put her in a nightgown while mom was on the toilet.  I think it was so mom wouldn't start touching her bum.  There was no poop.  The aide wiped mom's genitals with a warm towel and then she applied some cream.  I think the cream was cold because mom was mad.  Mom wanted to put her pants back on.  I noticed that her trousers were on backwards.  We pulled mom's pants on and took her to the bed.  She didn't want to stand so the aide couldn't pull the pants off.  I got mom to lie down so I could pull her pants off and she was cooperative.  I adjusted her nightshirt and diaper.  Mom's legs were so cold.  I thought afterwards that I should have taken her for a walk too.  I put a pajama top on her over the hospital nightgown and tucked her in.  I sang a song for her and she smiled.  Donna enjoyed it too.  I sang Yuyakekoyake.  Mom sang a bit too.  She looked so sweet.

Saturday 15 December 2018

Thrift shop

Saturday, December 15, 2018
I gave some Merci chocolates to one of the kitchen staff.
Mom was sitting with Donna in the fish tank room when I arrived at 10:50 am.  It looked as if some event was just wrapping up.  I asked Jean and she said it was some church group.  She said it took them an hour to get organized.  Mom had a cup of tea and a scone.  I had brought my oatmeal and berries with me.  Everyone thought I was bringing it for mom, but it was my breakfast.  Mom would not even try my oatmeal and berries.  I drank mom's tea and ate some of her scone.  She drank some tea and ate maybe 1/8th of the scone.
I took her to her room to toilet her.  Her diaper had some poop in it but was dry.  I changed her diaper.  I put an undershirt on her and a vest.  She was wearing a top, but no undershirt.  Mom did some pee in the toilet.  I cleaned her up.  She had some poop on her butt.  I combed her hair.
I took her for a walk.  We looked at the secondhand shop in the lobby.  I showed her some outfits and she was engaged.  She liked some things, but not others.  I took her for a walk around.  I like to make sure mom gets some exercise.  I want her to get tired and hungry so she has an appetite and can sleep at night.
I brought her over to sit with Donna at the dining table and then left.

Friday 14 December 2018

Friday visit

Friday, December 14, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna at the dining table when I arrived at 3:20 p.m.
Donna was wearing a new top and a new pair of pants.
I took Donna to the fish tank room at her request.
I took mom back to the room to toilet her.
She looked pretty fresh, but there was a bit of poop on her diaper so I changed it.
She peed in the toilet.
I cleaned her up.
I combed her hair.
I took her for a walk.
I bought cookies for the staff so we delivered them to the nurses' station.
I took mom for a walk to the lobby.
We looked at her photo book twice.
We looked through a Canadian Living magazine.
I walked mom back to her room and put her in her wheelchair.
I wheeled her over to sit with Donna.  Someone had taken her back to the dining room.
Mom drank all her apple juice.
I chatted a bit with Ailene.

Wednesday 12 December 2018

Diarrhea

Wednesday, December 12, 2018
When I arrived, mom had already consumed her apple juice and Boost.  She ate half a banana after I peeled it for her. Eventually, I was able to spoon feed her all of her pureed green vegetable.  She complained, but she ate it.  She was in a good mood.
Donna had a blanket draped over her legs and no pants.  She was listing towards her right side.
Chris arrived and I finished feeding her while Chris ate.
We took mom to her room to toilet her.  Donna had already been changed and put to bed.
I put mom on the toilet.  Immediately she started producing wet farts.  I changed her diaper because there was a little bit of poop on them.  I noticed the smell of poop and saw a poop emerging from mom's bum.  I coaxed it out with some toilet paper.  Then liquidy stuff came out.  This continued for some time.  I combed mom's hair to pass the time.  Finally, I thought mom was finished so I got her to stand while I wiped her butt.  Liquid poop dripped onto her pants.  I put her back on the toilet and began the process again.  I had to flush the toilet many times.  Blood was showing up on the toilet paper.  I notified the nurse.  In the end, mucousy stuff came out.  I cleaned mom up and put a diaper on her and changed her pants.  I then washed her hands.
Chris and I took mom for a short walk.  Then we put her back in the wheelchair and left her at the nurses' station.

Sunday 9 December 2018

Aide changed diaper

Sunday, December 9, 2018
When I arrived, mom was sitting at the dining table alone.  Donna was with Michael and a lot of other people doing arm exercises.  I wonder why they left mom out.  I took mom to her room to toilet her, but a new aide said she was just about to toilet mom.  Hurray!  She got the lifting contraption, but I told her that mom could stand.  Luckily mom was very cooperative.  Her wheelchair didn't stink like pee either.  I combed mom's hair.
I took mom for a walk to the lobby.  We went through her photo book a couple of times.  Then we walked back to her room to put her photo book away.  I took mom and Donna to the chapel and we sang Christmas songs.  Donna was getting anxious about missing dinner.  I took Donna to the dining table.  I brought mom back to her room and put her in her wheelchair and took her back to the dining room.  By this time, Edward and Jacquie were there as well.
The nurse gave mom her medication in strawberry jam.

Saturday 8 December 2018

Charlene visits

Saturday, December 8, 2018
Donna was sitting in the dining room.  Mom was sitting at a table in the fish tank room.
I took mom to the washroom and toileted her.  Her diaper was soggy and had some poop.  She had poop in her bum. Her wheelchair smelled like pee.  While I toileted mom, Charlene tried to wipe down the wheelchair seat.
I washed mom's hands.  Her fingernails were dirty.  I cleaned them using the surgical brush and paper towels with my fingernails.  I combed her hair and trimmed her bangs.
While Charlene and mom looked at the photo album, I cleaned out mom's closet and found mouse poop.  I reported it to the nurses' desk.
We took mom for a walk.  We went into the chapel and sang Christmas songs.  I took mom back to the room and put her in the wheelchair.  No one was watching television, but there was a PBS special with Sarah Brighten.  I put Donna and mom together in front of the television.

Wednesday 5 December 2018

Mom is happy

Wednesday, December 5, 2018
I arrived late today.  5:25.  Mom had eaten a little of her food.  She was quite cooperative.  At one point she took the spoon from my hand and fed herself.  She liked the chocolate pudding, but she was still receptive to the pureed green, orange and white stuff.  Today she would not try the banana so I ate it.  She drank about half her Boost.
Larry told me that he had toileted her and that she had pooped.  That was probably why she was in a good mood.
After dinner, I took mom to the family kitchen to wait for Chris.  I checked her closet and got her photo book.  We went through her photo book twice.  Mom was talkative and expressive.  I don't know what exactly she was saying, but she was animated.
Chris eventually showed up after 6:00 pm some time.
We sat and talked and then took mom to her room to get a blanket.  Her legs were cold.  We sat her with Donna.  There was a strange lady in their room and she was touching Zorka's things so Chris went to find an aide to take her away.  We had to interrupt the aides in the lunchroom because no one was around.

Monday 3 December 2018

Choir

Monday, December 3, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table and refusing to eat anything.  Jacquie said that she ate half a banana later.
Our choir performed for the residents.  Mom was in the front row, but off to the farthest right.  She was sitting in a wheelchair and still had her bib on.
When we got to the sing-a-long, I sang to her and she sang.  She joined in.  She sang Silent Night, Jingle Bells, Away in a Manager, etc.  She smiled.

Sunday 2 December 2018

Mom ate and pooped

Sunday, Dec. 2nd, 2018
Mom was in the fish tank room sitting at a table with a small container of ice-cream.  She didn't want to eat it.  Typical.  I took her back to her room and toileted her.  While I was tidying her closet she tried to get up from her wheelchair.  She wanted to use the toilet.  I was about to pull her pants down and seat her, but she refused.  After some cajoling, she finally cooperated.  She had pooped in her diaper, but there was more poop to come.  I had to leave her by herself for a minute while I went to throw out her diaper and get a new plastic bag. When I got back she had poop on her left hand.  Then she tried to clean the poop off her hand on her knee.  I immediately gave her some toilet paper to hold onto.  Then I got a wet towel to clean her hands. I cleaned her nether regions and put on a new diaper. She was very happy after her poop and diaper change.  I washed her hands and cleaned under her nails with her nail brush.
I told mom not to drink her beverages until after her meal came.  She immediately reached for her apple juice and drank some.  Then she gave me the cup so I put it aside. I gave mom a spoonful of food, but she didn't want to eat it.  I tried it and it was a little hot for me.
Mom ate some applesauce by herself.  She also ate some of her food by herself.  I was even able to feed her a few mouthfuls interspersed with sips of apple juice and Boost.
After dinner, I took mom to the toilet again.  She did some wet farts and I cleaned her bum again.
I took her for a walk to the lobby and we looked at her photo album.  We walked around a bit.  She was happy and cooperative.  We went back to the room and looked at a Japanese children's book.  I read her two stories:  The Boy Who Cried Wolf and the Country Mouse and the City Mouse.  She enjoyed the stories.
I took mom to sit with Donna in the fish tank room.
I brought a new pair of gray sweatpants for mom to be labeled.
