Charlene visits

Sunday, April 28, 2019
Mom was sitting with Donna and some other ladies when I arrived.  I took mom to her room, but she didn't want to be toileted.  I took her to the television room and ate my lunch with her.  I gave her some orange juice and Cheesies.
Mom is enjoying the bubble wrap.
Charlene came and massaged mom's legs.
Charlene made mom laugh.
I gave Charlene a piece of apple and then mom took a piece too.  She had trouble eating it.  She was kind of keeping it in her cheek for a long time.  I gave her orange juice to drink.  She kept making faces and saying it tasted like shit, but she drank sips of it.
She had none of the baby ice cream cones I made for her.  I ate them.
She did not eat the banana, I ate it.
She did not eat the boiled egg.  I ate one.
She ate very little.
She drank some water.

Mom's nails are blue

Saturday, April 27, 2019
Mom was sitting with Donna in the dining room when I arrived.  There were sitting away from the main group.  I took Donna and mom to the fish tank room.
I gave mom some bubble wrap.  She played with it a bit, but then put it in her mouth.
I think she was hungry.  I gave her a Cheesie and she ate it.  I gave her some orange juice.
They took mom away to be weighed.  She only weighs about 36 kilos with her clothes on.
Mom was very feisty today.
I took her to her room twice to toilet her.  The second time she was ready.  She got up and let me pull down her pants.  She peed in the toilet.  She stood up so that I could put on a new diaper and pull up her pants.  She got in her wheelchair and I took her to the dining room.
She wouldn't eat any of her dinner.  She only drank her apple juice.  She seemed very happy with her blue nails and enjoyed showing them off.
After dinner, she ate another Cheesie and drank some Boost.  She ate and drank very little.
I gave her some bubble wrap.  She watched as I played Candy Crush and touched the screen.
I put a quilt over her legs, but she folded it up.

Friday 26 April 2019

Mom is still alive and kicking

Friday, April 26, 2019
Mom maybe drank apple juice.  She didn't touch her food or dessert.  She ate a few Cheesies surreptitiously.  She drank a few sips of milk and Boost.  She wouldn't touch the cup ramen that I brought.  I thought the smells might entice her.  She wasn't interested in the pudding for dessert either.
She was happy to participate in the hit the balloon with the foam stick game, although she did refuse a foam stick at first.  She was quite aggressive and grew impatient when Betty wouldn't hit the balloon.
She played with the bubble wrap a bit, but at times seemed more interested in her seatbelt.

Wednesday 24 April 2019

Mom is so thin

Wednesday, April 24, 2019
Today was dad's birthday.  He would have been 96.
Mom wasn't eating anything.
She drank a little apple juice.
She didn't drink any of her medication.
She enjoyed playing with bubble wrap.
She ate a few Cheesies.
I tried to toilet her.  She got up from the wheelchair, walked to the toilet, sat on it, but refused to remove her pants.
She seems very animated.
She accidentally ate some apple sauce.  I put a spoon in her hand and she put the apple sauce in her mouth.  The second time, she tried to empty the spoon on the table.
I tried feeding her with chopsticks, but she would have none of it.
I also tried putting her medication in a coffee mug, but she would have none of it.

Tuesday 23 April 2019

Hymn sing

Tuesday, April 23, 2019
I think mom drank her apple juice.  She had poured tea into the empty cup.  I took her tea and some milk and her apple sauce and sat her in the television room.  She helped herself to some Cheesies and drank all of her clear tea and some orange juice.  She wouldn't touch the apple sauce.
I gave her some bubble wrap and she enjoyed that.
She didn't want to wear her bib.
I took her to join the hymn sing-a-long.  I was surprised that she sang along with one of the songs.
I put on my coat and my backpack and went to say good-bye.  Mom told me to hurry up and go.

Monday 22 April 2019

Mom takes a pee

Monday, April 22, 2019
Mom was sitting in the fish tank room when I arrived.  There were no recreational activities today.  Mom was very animated.  I took her to her room.  She took a pee.
I took her to the dining room.  We missed coffee.
I tried to feed her the chocolate mousse that we had for dessert last night, but she would have none of it.  I put some on her finger, but she wiped it off.
She did eat a few Cheesies and Doritos.  She drank some water and orange juice, but very little.
She watched as I played Candy Crush.  She liked the graphics, but soon became bored.
She is very animated.  She likes to open her seatbelt.  She likes to remove her bib and fold it.  She likes to play with food.  She needs to be occupied.  She likes to wave at strangers and becomes sad when they don't wave back.

Sunday 21 April 2019

Easter Sunday

Sunday, April 21, 2019
Mom was sitting with the other girls when I arrived.  She was still working on her Boost.  In the end, I threw it out.  She still hadn't touched it by lunch.
I took mom for a little ride around.  I took her to the chapel and tried to ply her with food:  fresh raspberries, Cheesies, ice cream cone, orange juice, soft-boiled egg, etc.  She ate a few raspberries, Cheesies and I was able to feed her some almost melted ice cream with a spoon!  She shoved the Cheesies, in her pants.  Later she wrapped the soft boiled egg, raspberries and melted ice cream cone in paper towels and shoved those down her pants.  She didn't put up a fight when I removed them.  She knew she was busted.
She participated enthusiastically for a bit with the arm class.  She was kind of confused about what to do and started asking questions.  She was engaged.  I took her away because I think she was becoming disruptive and she didn't put up a fuss.
I took her to her room thinking to toilet her.  I cleaned up the bathroom in preparation.  However, she had other plans.  She ended up taking me for a walk.  I wonder if she was trying to escape.  I kind of felt like she was trying to get rid of me.  We walked back to her room and I put her back in her wheelchair.  I think she was getting tired.  I wheeled her into the dining room to sit with Donna.  I gave Donna a big hug.   Her hug squeezed the tears from my eyes.  Mom looked grouchy.  I know she doesn't like public displays of affection.  Although she has given me hugs in private.

Saturday 20 April 2019

Mom takes a poop

Saturday, April 20, 2019
Mom was sitting with the others doing some activity with balls.  She didn't have a ball.  The recreation aide seemed happy to hand mom off.  I tried to get mom engaged, but she didn't understand what she had to do.  I ended up taking her away.
I tried to get mom to eat an ice cream cone, Doritos, Cheesies and Veggie sticks and drink orange juice. I was there for a few hours.  Mom drank a bit of melted ice cream and ate a Dorito and drank some orange juice.  She was very feisty.  She made a huge mess and exacerbated it by trying to clean it herself.  She seems very cheerful and full of energy. Other people have remarked on this.
I toileted her.  I asked at the nurses' station whether or not mom had pooped.  The nurse gave me a suppository.  Mom did a medium poop.  I saw it hanging from her bum.  She insisted on taking care of it herself.  I gave her lots of toilet paper.  I tried to get her to throw the soiled toilet paper in the waste paper basket.  She got some poop on her hands so I immediately wiped it up, much to her annoyance.  She folded the poopy toilet paper in half and wiped again.  Some she threw into the toilet.  I just kept handing her toilet paper.  I used a warm towel that I had prepared to wipe up her hands and legs.  I used another paper towel to wipe her bottom.  Then I used paper towels sprayed with some cleaning foam to wipe her butt.  I noticed that she had some kind of sore on her bum.  I reported it to the nurse.  Mom was getting very impatient with me.  She stood up and tried to pull her pants up.  I was able to get her diaper back on.
Now that she can stand, it is easier to toilet her.

Friday 19 April 2019

Baby ice-cream cone

Friday, April 19, 2019
Mom was sitting with Donna in the fish tank room.  I found a fly in her Boost.  It was still alive.
Mom's room was being cleaned so we took mom to the chapel.  I tried to get her to eat a mini ice cream cone.  They kept melting and I had to keep eating them.
I checked mom's fingernails and Charlene massaged her legs.
Mom was smiling a lot.
She wouldn't accept any food.
Finally, we ignored her.
When we came back to check on her, I noticed the ice cream cone had disappeared.  I checked her pockets.  We suspect she ate it.  I found some Doritos in her pocket.  Her mouth looked to be full of Doritos and Charlene saw the ice cream cone in her mouth.  I got her some Boost, but she only took a sip.  I got her some orange juice and she sipped a little of that.  I was concerned that she had too much food in her mouth.  Eventually, she drank enough fluids to get the food mushy enough to swallow.
We took her for a bit to the thrift shop.  She waved to someone, but they didn't wave back so she was a bit upset.
Soon, she sensed that the action was elsewhere.  I took her to the dining area.  I removed the flower display because mom really wanted to get at that rabbit.  Jacquie thought that the staff had removed it.  She said that mom had been taking the flowers out and taking them apart.  I had noticed that the vase had seemed rather sparse.
I didn't think that mom would touch any of her food, but I didn't stay to watch.

Thursday 18 April 2019

Charlene massage mom's legs

Thursday, April 18, 2019
Everyone was playing card bingo.  Mom was sitting nearby.  Charlene and I took her back to her room.  She ate a Cheesie and two raspberries.  She drank a sip of orange juice.
Charlene massaged her legs.  Mom kept wiping her mouth and fiddling with her seatbelt.
We took her back to the fish tank room and sat her with the other girls.

Wednesday 17 April 2019

Bunny ears

Wednesday, April 17, 2019
Mom was sitting with Jacquie, Donna and Edward.  Dinner had not yet been served.
Mom had a leaflet stuffed under her shirt.
I took mom to the room, but she didn't want to be toileted.
The aide had set a table for us.
Mom would not touch the food.  She did eat some Cheesies and drank some apple juice and Boost.
As I was recording her eating the Cheesies, she suddenly reached for the egg-shaped bunny ornament.  She had expressed interest in the one at her table too.  Suddenly she put the ears in her mouth.  Yikes!  I removed the bunny from her and returned it to the vase.  I poked a piece of apple from my apple crisp with my fork and gave it to her.  She ate it.   She did not go for it the second time.
I showed Chris the video.  He thinks I should try feeding her an egg on a chopstick.
After Chris had eaten his dinner we moved to the fish tank room and joined Donna.
I brought over mom's apple juice, Boost and milk.  While I was moving things around, mom had given Donna her apple juice.  I don't think Donna is supposed to have apple juice.  Donna consumed all of the apple juice as mom watched wistfully.  I think mom wanted her apple juice back.

Tuesday 16 April 2019

More cheesies (poop)

Tuesday, April 16, 2019
Mom was acting up at the dining table.  She had already taken cutlery and put them down her pants.  I rescued a couple of sets, including her own.  She seemed quite agitated so I took her to her room.  She was intent on getting out of her wheelchair.  She undid her seatbelt.  I walked her to the toilet on a hunch.  She started to pull down her pants.  I sat her on the toilet.  She peed and she pooped.  She put her hand down between her legs and I panicked.  I gave her toilet paper.  I reached down and squeezed a ball of poop out of her bum.  She kept wiping with the toilet paper.  She insisted on folding the soiled toilet paper.  I was encouraging her to throw it in a wastepaper basket.  I dared not leave her unattended while I went to look for towels.  Luckily there were a lot of paper napkins and a spray in the cupboard above the toilet.  I cleaned her up as best I could.  She complained that her bum hurt when I wiped too probingly.  Her diaper was pristine.
We washed our hands together.  She got back in the wheelchair and I took her back to dinner.  She drank some of her beverages, but she would not eat anything.
There was a sing-a-long activity.  I gave mom Cheesies and she ate those.  She drank some of her beverages and played with her food.
She walked over to the group by the sing-along but later refused to get out of her chair.  At one point she got up walked around the wheelchair that I had rolled over by her chair and sat back down in her chair.  In the meantime, I fed her more Cheesies and some apple juice.
Finally, she got up from her chair and I was able to deposit her in the wheelchair and take her to the nurses' station where her buddies were.
Weird incident.  That strange little British guy had approached mom and me and Lorne sideswiped him as he went by in his wheelchair.  Ming had to break them up. I wonder if Lorne thought he was protecting us.

Monday 15 April 2019

It's a miracle

Monday, April 15, 2019
Mom was quite calm and chatty.  She refused to eat anything, but I could see that she had been drinking some fluids.  I warmed up some miso soup.  She drank a little of that.
I went to the washroom and when I came back she was with a therapy aide.  Apparently, mom was walking around!  They put a more comfortable pillow in her wheelchair, but now the seat belt doesn't reach.  Mom took me for a little walk.  It was amazing.  Just yesterday I thought she was going to die.
She joined in the racehorse activity.  This is the first time in months that I have seen her throw the die.
I gave her some cheesies and she grabbed a bunch of them.  She ate a few.  She put some on a napkin that I gave her.  She sipped her beverages.

Sunday 14 April 2019

No donut seat required.

Sunday, April 14, 2019
Mom was in the fish tank room when I arrived.  She was very happy to see Charlene.  She was in a very good mood.  Charlene massaged her legs.
We ate together.  Mom ate very little.  She took a couple of sips of miso soup.  She did not eat the ojiya at all.  In fact, she got a spoon and mixed butterscotch pudding in it.  Then she took one of Charlene's sushi and dunked it in the pea soup.  Yikes!  She did not drink the Yakult at all.
She had something stuck in her hair.  I tried to comb it out.  I used a wash rag to dissolve it.
We tidied up her closet and drawers.
I took mom to sit with Donna, but mom wasn't happy.  I took her to the fish tank, but she was still upset.  I took her to the nurses' station.  A bunch of nurses were chatting.  Poor mom.  I think she thought they were mocking her, which they probably were.
The nurse I talked to last night was there.  I apologized for yelling at her.  It wasn't true.  But, I apologized anyway.  She's pregnant.  I bought two of those special donut seats for mom: one from Shoppers and one from London Drugs.  The nurse today said it wasn't necessary.
I feel like the nurses are just mocking us.  I feel like they are trying to kill mom.  They mock her.  I think they are stressing her and she will die from anxiety.  They just like to keep her drugged so she is like a vegetable and they can do their work without any trouble.  Sigh...I feel so sad and angry.

Saturday 13 April 2019

Mom only weighs 35.9 kilos

Saturday, April 13, 2019
Mom only weighs 35.9 kilos.  Today she was scratching.  She still refuses to eat.  She is quite feisty.
I don't think the doctor cares.  I remember he was only interested in me signing the do not resuscitate order.  I called numerous times and received no answer.  I called about mom's constipation and nether regions.  Not a word.
I wonder if mom is not eating because she doesn't want to poop.
I think she has bum problems.  She has no padding on her bum and she sits all day in the wheelchair.
Poor mom.  I wonder if they give her a donut to sit on?
I spent two hours trying to get her to eat.  I made miso soup and ojiya (rice, egg, and stock made from kombu and katsuobushi).  She took a sip and ate a quarter of a teaspoon and that was it.  She drank her apple juice.  I squeezed orange juice for her and she didn't seem to like it that much.  She drank very little of her Boost.  She ate maybe one and a half cheesies.
The nurse said that mom didn't have a poop for six days.
I just looked on-line and I think that mom is probably in pain.  Poor mom.  The nurse I talked to said that she will ask the doctor on call to give her pain medication via an injection.
The nurse said that she herself had never had experience with Alzheimer's.
I feel very emotional now.  I wonder how long mom will live.  Poor mom.  I feel so sorry for mom.  She is trying so hard.  She is misunderstood.  The staff and the medical personnel don't seem to understand Alzheimer's.

Wednesday 10 April 2019

Mom is living on apple juice

Wednesday, April 10, 2019
No Jacquie at dinner today.  Edward ate all of his chicken.  Zenaida helped Donna eat her dinner.  Donna has very dark circles under her eyes.  Mom drank 1 cup of apple juice.  She asked for coffee today but only had a sip.  She drank very little Boost.  She drank a bit of medicine-laced cranberry juice.
The very large man said that I should bring mom snacks from home.
Mom was more alert today.
The nurse told me that mom had finally had a bowel movement after five days.
Mom didn't want to do swordplay today.
Chris came late tonight.  He said that traffic was very bad.  He was offended that I wasn't worried.  He's usually late.  If I got worried every time he was late, I'd be a basket case.  I am very punctual and reliable and always have been.  If I were late, that would be cause for alarm.

Tuesday 9 April 2019

Mom drank a cup of apple juice for dinner

Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
I tried to get mom to have dinner, but she just drank about a cup of apple juice and 1/2 a cup of Boost for dinner.  She ate about 1/2 a teaspoon of cream cheese dessert and 1/2 a teaspoon of pureed peas.
We did some swordplay with the foam sticks and she was quite feisty.  She didn't want to give me back her foam stick.  She did that with the apple juice too.
Her legs were very cold so I massaged them.  She objected at first, but then she was fine with it.

Sunday 7 April 2019

Charlene came to visit

Sunday, April 7, 2019
Mom was sitting at the table with Edward and Donna.  Jacquie was in a regular wheelchair and had to be pushed.  Mom wouldn't eat or drink anything.  The nurse gave me some medicine to mix with her apple juice.
We took mom to her room and Charlene massaged her legs.  They were very cold.  We put long wool socks on her.
We did the balloon activity and the foam stick activity.  Mom was quite alert for that.
I was able to get her to eat her pureed peach and a teaspoon of pureed carrot.  She drank most of her Boost and her apple juice, but not all.  I used a straw for her Boost.
Mom was quite dopey today except for when we did the physical activity.

Saturday 6 April 2019

Mom ate a little

Saturday, April 6, 2019
Mom wasn't eating or drinking anything.  The nurse asked me what she should do with the medication so I asked her to put it in the apple juice.  Mom seems really dopey.  I wonder if she is drugged.  Mom drank all of her medicine-laced apple juice without any complaint.  She drank it slowly, but she finished it.
After everyone left, mom ate most of her pureed peas and most of her lemon and egg
white dessert. Hurray!  She also drank most of her beverages and an extra apple juice.
I gave her a massage and put a blanket around her legs and put a jacket on her.  I threw a flannel sheet on Donna too.
I did a little swordplay with mom with the foam sticks.
It was cold today.

Friday 5 April 2019

Friday happy hour.

Friday, April 5, 2019
Mom was sitting in her wheelchair in front of the fish tank.  Donna was sitting at the dining table.  I took her over to the television room where people were already gathering for the friday entertainment.  It was still an hour before.  Mom was mostly dozing, but I rubbed her hands.  I rubbed her shoulders and the back of her neck and she seemed to like it.
I was able to get her to drink 3/4 of the Yakult, 2 tablespoons of mushroom soup and 3/4 of her Boost.  I took her to see the accordion player.  She mostly dozed.

Wednesday 3 April 2019

Mom is more interactive today.

Wednesday, April 3, 2019
Mom was quite alert and responsive today.  She ate some of her pureed peach, drank apple juice and some of her very sweet milk tea. She ate most of her pureed peas and carrots and most of her pureed peach.  She drank all of her Boost, milk and apple juice.  She drank some Yakult.
Mom pointed and smiled at the large family.
After dinner, we tried to make her walk, but she wouldn't stand.
We played with the foam noodles, using them as swords.  Mom was quite aggressive.
