Bento

Sunday, July 30, 2017
Mom had already eaten part of her dinner when I arrived with her bento.  Greek chicken, with rice and Greek salad. Boston cream cake.  Yum!  My favourite.  I took mom's dinner and gave her the bento that I bought from Fujiya.  There was inari sushi, futo maki, nimono, saba, etc.  Mom ate half of one inari sushi, a futo maki, some fish and all the nimono.  I gave her a small piece of kinako manju and a Yakult for dessert.  And a piece of orange.
After dinner we went for a little walk.  Mom admired the flowers.  We did some exercises.  I asked mom if she wanted to go to the bathroom.   We hurried to the washroom, but it was too late.
I changed mom's diaper.  She did some poop in the toilet so I had to wipe her bum.
We played cards with the gang.  Mom did not win a single game.  Shanta fell asleep during one game.
I gave all the ladies a small cup of water before I left.  I probably should have taken mom for one more pee.

Stayed later than usual

Saturday, July 29, 2017
Roast pork with mushroom gravy, mixed Italian beans, mashed potatoes and brownie for dessert.
Yum!  Orange sections.
Mom wasn't wearing underpants.  She peed herself and had removed her underwear and left them by the sink in the bathroom.  I dressed her and put her clothes in the laundry.
We played cards with the usual gang.
After cards we played with the balloon a bit.
Then I stayed for hot cocoa.  Shanta joined us.
Donna mentioned that she didn't have any more toothpaste so I mentioned it to the nurse.  He seemed confused so I asked him to contact Donna's sister.  In the meantime I gave Donna a little sample toothpaste that I had been keeping for such an occassion.
Alan went to clean his mom's teeth in salt and tumeric.
I didn't have time to watch mom brush her teeth because Barbara asked me to pull her pants off.  I just put toothpaste on mom's toothbrush and demoed what she was supposed to do.  I poured her a cup of water for rinsing.  I hope she did what she was supposed to do.
Luckily Larry showed up.  Barbara wasn't very happy.  She had pooped in her diaper.
After I got mom dressed in her nightie, I thought it would be a good idea to take her to the toilet.  Not only did she take a pee, but she did a poop as well.
I got a ride from Alan.  He said that some of the staff are lazy and just talk on the phone.  I thought it was their break time, but he said that they were supposed to take their breaks in the break room.

Orange chicken, rice and carrots.  Strawberry rhubarb pie for dessert.  Yum!
Jacquie said they had the inevitable accident where she and Edward slide the glass sugar container across the table.  Her coffee fell off the table.  I asked if my mom had said,"I told you so."
Mom was complaining about eating half a banana.  I peeled it and chopped it and gave her a few pieces.  She ate them.  I gave 3 pieces to Edward, but he only ate one piece.
After dinner, Donna had difficulty getting up from the table.  I told her to bend forward, but she kept saying her feet couldn't touch the ground.  Finally, I flagged Ming down and he helped her.
Mom did a poop!  I cleaned her bum and changed her underwear.  I reported to the nurse that mom did a poop, but she said that mom was regular now.  I should have told her mom said her bum hurt.
I took mom to play the balloon game where they hit the balloon with foam noodles.  Donna was in the toilet and taking a very long time, but she finally emerged.  Anna quickly grew tired of the game and left.  Bill wanted to play, but he isn't allowed.  I threw a balloon to him a few times and he was happy, but we had to stop because he was having difficulty breathing.  He was very grateful.
The care aide who was watching Anna said that Anna hadn't fallen back in the chair on Tuesday.  She said that Anna was sitting in William's lap and had slid off.  She said that Anna had had another bad fall after that.  She says Anna is wearing the wrong type of shoes so the family had taken away some of her shoes.
After the activity, I threw the balloon around with mom and Shanta and some other guy.  They were having a good time.  Shanta's eyes were lit up.  Mom became self-conscious and wondered why the others couldn't play.
When I was leaving I gave mom, Shanta, and Donna a hug.  Anna gave me a kiss on the cheek.  I thought Bill was going to high-5 me, but he kissed my hand.

Poo poo in the potty

Tuesday, July 25, 2017
Forgot to take mom's laundry.
Dinner was ginger pork, rice, broccoli and lemon loaf.  Not my favourite.  Mom ate everything except her cake.  Jacquie showed me mom's video on her phone.  Mom was confused at first and then started singing along.
Tomorrow there will be a performance of the Silver Foxes at 1:30 pm.  There are 30 in all and Jacquie, Donna and mom will be singing and Brayden will be playing and conducting.
After dinner, I took mom for a little walk outside.  She really enjoys the colours of the flowers.
When we got back to the room, there was a traffic jam at the toilet.  Joan was coming out and Donna was going in so I took mom to the other toilet.
Mom did a poop!  She said her bum hurt when I wiped her bum.  I changed her out of her diaper and put her in underpants.  Hurray!
We played card bingo.  Shanta and Michael won.  After card bingo, mom and Donna went back to the room.  On the way back there was a commotion.  I turned around and saw Anna lying on her back.  She seemed okay, but she was rubbing her head.  I wonder if she fell back in her chair?
Donna went to use the toilet so I occupied mom with music from her walkman.  We also ate cherries.  Joan loves the cherries.  Today Barbara enjoyed them as well.
After Donna emerged from the washroom, we went to sit in the fish tank room for hot cocoa.  We saw Anna smiling and talking on the way past the nurses' station.
I waited 15 minutes at the bus stop for nothing.  The next bus wouldn't come for a long time so I decided to walk.  Alan saw me and offered me a ride to New West.  That was great!

Back from camp

Sunday, July 23, 2017.
Got back from music camp today.  Bus connections were good so I made it in time for dinner.  I hadn't phoned in to make a reservation, but they let me have dinner.  Salmon, mashed potatoes and green and yellow string beans.  Dessert was chocolate cream pie.  Yum!  Mom started on dessert before she finished dinner, but she ate all her dinner and all the food I left behind too.  She had a big appetite today.
Jacquie and Edward were doing their sugar container passing.  Mom let them know she didn't think it was a good idea in Japanese.  Jacquie had sent me a video of mom singing.  They have a Thursday sing-a-long and Ming had found a Japanese video of Sakura so they got mom to sing it.
A nurse stopped me in the hall and she said that she and mom sing together.  She finds it amusing because she sings in a different language and mom sings along.
I took mom for a little walk after dinner.  Suddenly she said she had to go to the washroom.  She took a pee and then strained to take a poo, but was unsuccessful.  I changed her diaper and wiped her bum.  She said her bum hurt. I told the nurse that mom was probably constipated and her bum hurt.
Mom had several pairs of damp underpants in her laundry.  I wonder if she had been washing her pants.
Mom's red comb is missing.
I found a pack of cards in Donna's drawer so I took them back.
We played card bingo.  Everyone was having fun.  A new guy wanted to join us, but the gang did not want him.  Donna kept telling him to go away.  Anna was a little less hostile even though he had said something bad to her in Italian.  He hung around with us until the end.
After cards, the girls went back to the room so I gave them cherries.  Barbara thinks mom is pregnant and is worried about her.  She said that the cherries weren't very sweet compared to her tree that was probably chopped down.  Joan, Donna and mom enjoyed the cherries.
Jacquie gave me her old recorder to try out.

Lunch at Satomi's

Saturday, July 15,  2017
Mom was getting her nails painted when we arrived.  A bright pink.  I went to mom's room to straighten things up.  Donna and mom arrived shortly, both having to go to the washroom.  Mom just took a pee, but she wanted to take the diaper off.  I put her in panties.
I changed mom into one of her t-shirts.  Purple.
Mom had a little difficulty climbing into the car.  Not because she couldn't do it physically, but she had trouble figuring out how.  She was anxious when we turned corners.
She was excited when we got to the restaurant.  I ordered cold soba and tempura and gomae for her.  I gave her some of my tekka maki, edamame, etc.  She enjoyed the Japanese tea as well.  Unfortunately she spilt her miso soup.  I think the wakame created a blockage and then she tipped the bowl too far.  Poor mom.
When we got back there was an arm exercise class going on and she wanted to participate.  Donna was already there.  They were having a good time.
After the exercise class, I took mom to the washroom.  This time she did a poop.  I had to wipe her bum.  Donna wanted to use the washroom as well so I directed her to a different washroom.
I changed mom out of her miso soup covered t-shirt.  She looked good.  Then we escorted mom and Donna to the television room to see a film on tea.

Constipation

Friday, July 14, 2017
Mom was a bit miffed because her dinner had not arrived yet.
I waited impatiently for my dinner and then went to go and get it.
Mom said she had to go to the washroom.
I took her and she had a pee, but then she seemed to be concerned about poo.  She was sticking her finger in her bum.  She said something was stuck there.  I pushed the help button, but a care aide said to tell the nurse.  She wouldn't even check mom's bum because mom wasn't her patient.  I cleaned mom's bum.  She was wearing a diaper.
I washed mom's hands thoroughly and went back to the dining room because I hadn't finished my dinner.  Donna went to go to the washroom.  I seated mom at the balloon game.  She was happy.
Donna was taking forever in the washroom as usual.  I can only imagine what is happening.
The girls were having a good time batting the balloon with their foam sticks.
Poor Bill was telling me that someone had stolen his dinner, but I think he meant that he didn't like his food.  He really wanted to join the group for the balloon game.  I suggested the care aides give him his own balloon.  He was having fun for a while and then he was tired.  Or at least that's what I told the care aide.  What is it with these people?  Am I the only one who understands what these patients want?
After the balloon game, I took Shanta back to her son Allan.  Then I took mom and Donna to play with a balloon.  Mom was wary and I wondered if she had to go to the washroom, but she was worried about straying from Donna.  I had to get Donna to go to the lobby first.  Once they were settled they could start playing with the balloon.  Donna got tired, but mom didn't understand and kept hitting the ballon to her.  Soon, mom was tired too so I took them back to the fish tank room to wait for hot cocoa.  I don't understand why they don't give them a cool drink on a hot day.
I told the nurse that mom was sticking her finger in her butt and saying something was stuck there.  I said she was probably constipated.  The nurse says mom often holds her tummy.

Mom's care conference

Tuesday, July 11, 2017
Michael was sitting in the lobby when I arrived.  He told me that coffee time was 10:30.  Yay!
I went to find mom.  She was sleeping in a chair by the nurses' station.  I woke her up and took her for tea.  I got Shanta too.  Donna was no where to be found. Someone said she had appointment.
I went to the Resident Care Conference at 11:00.
My biggest concern was mom's weight gain.  Other than that, she seemed happy.  Also, we all noted that mom needed more cueing.  I also complained about the gate to the dog park being locked and the paper towel dispensers not working.  The locked gate was to prevent escapes. Mom participates in lots of activities and seems content.
I took mom for a pee before we went for lunch.  She was wearing pull-ups.
Mom only ate half her food at lunch.  Edward hardly ate anything.  Donna still wasn't back.  Jacquie joined us for a bit.  Peter passed away a couple of weeks ago.
After lunch, I took mom for a walk.  I showed her some photos and a video on my tablet.  Then, she said she was cold so we went back to her room.  I put the head set on her and took her out for another walk.  She was enjoying her music.  We went back to the room so that she could take another pee before the gardening activity, but she didn't pee at all.  The nurse came to check on the paper towel dispensers.  She said she would put in a work order.  I asked about the dispensers back in December.  Several times.  And it was during the gastroenteritis quarantine.
Donna was back.  She wasn't sure if she had eaten lunch or not, but her lunch was waiting for her in a tray by her bed.
I took mom to join the kale salad making activity (gardening).  Michael and Shanta were there too.

Sunday 9 July 2017

Dirty diaper again

Sunday, July 9, 2017
Arrived late, but mom, Donna and Edward were still sitting at their dining table.
I ate the BLT sandwich that I had picked up from Timmie's.
Edward said I could eat his banana cream pie.  It was delicious.  Mom didn't have a dessert.
I asked mom if she wanted to go to the washroom, but she said she was fine.
The care aide asked if I was going to play cards so I told her, yes, at 6.
Donna didn't care for a walk so I just took mom for a walk around the grounds.  She was enjoying the colourful flowers.
I took her to the washroom when we got back.  She had pooed her pants.  The care aide was not much help.  In fact she ran and hid in another room.  But not before letting me know where I could dispose of the dirty diaper.
Mom was trying to wipe herself with the toilet paper, but then she started to touch the poop on it.  I just kept giving her lots of toilet paper and told her to clean under her nails, but she didn't seem to understand.  I got some special cleaning papers and sprayed the bum cleaning product on them and wiped mom's butt.  That's not good for her to be sitting in poop.
I washed her hands and made her clean under her fingernails.
I had to get the quilt from her bed so she could cover herself from the bathroom to her bed.  She put on new underpants and pants.
The card game got a little delayed, but we played half and hour.
The care aide is supposed to be looking after Anna.  She went to wake her and then find Shanta and Michael as well.
Anna was kind of grouchy and more confused than usual.  I think I noticed that on Friday too.
I found out that Shanta used to be a school teacher in India.

Friday 7 July 2017

Mom laughed so hard she started coughing and peed her pants

Friday, July 7, 2017
Mom was already sitting down in the circle ready to play the balloon game.  They hit the balloon with a noodle.  They have such a great time.  Mom laughed so hard she started coughing.
After I took mom and Donna to the lobby to toss around the balloon.  Donna walks so slowly with her walker.
Mom was having a good time laughing.  She started coughing and then she looked serious.  I tossed the balloon around with Donna for a while and then mom told me she had to pee.  Donna said she had to pee too so we headed back to the room.  We kept looking back for Donna every time we turned a corner.  I saw Shanta in the fish tank room so I tossed the balloon to her and she hit it back and forth a few times while we waited for Donna.
The toilet seat was dirty so I had to wipe it down.  Mom had peed her pants a little.  I tried to hurry because I knew Donna was coming to use the toilet.  I changed mom at her bed.  She had forgotten why I wanted her to change, but she realized when she removed her underwear.  She had also wet her pants.  By the time I got mom all changed, Donna was ready to go with us back to the fish tank room. We joined Shanta and Anna joined us.  We tossed the balloon around a bit.
I forgot to comb mom's hair.

Monday 3 July 2017

Monday night cards

Monday, July 3, 2017
Everyone except Jacquie was enjoyed their beef stroganoff when I arrived.  I ate my orange first and gave a few pieces to Edward because he wasn't eating much. I got an extra big portion of beef stroganoff and peas.  Tapioca pudding for dessert.
Jacquie finally showed up and then left.  She said that Peter, the cat, was doing poorly.  The doctor gave him morphine and he revived for a while, but she thought he was going to die soon.
Mom had to go to the washroom, but Joan was already in the toilet so we had to use the one next door. I bought some tops for mom today so we tried them on after dinner.
I'll have to alter two of them.
We played cards in the fish tank room.  Shanta fell asleep.  Mom was taking a long time to get the hang of the game.  She kept thinking she had to take a card.  To day I used the word "close" in Japanese instead of "flip over" and that seemed to work.

Saturday 1 July 2017

Canada Day!

Saturday, July 1, 2017
Mom and Donna were sitting with two gentlemen having coffee and cake.  One man had fallen asleep, but he woke up.  Mom was feeling uncomfortable because she had nothing to offer me.  She had already eaten her cake and most of her tea.
She had been saying something and gesticulating when I arrived, but when I asked her what she was saying, she couldn't remember.
Lorne said that they had admired her ring.
She's still wearing that blue ring.  I have to remember to take a photo of it.
She had to go to the washroom so I took her away.  She let a little leak so I had to change her underpants.
I found her blue nightgown and undershirt.  I hadn't taken them in for labeling yet.  I had taken a different shirt and nightgown.  Anyways she likes the blue nightgown.  I hope it gets labeled soon.
I took mom and Donna for a little walk within the confines of the fence.  Mom kept remarking that the flowers were so beautiful.  Donna is having more and more difficulty walking even with her new shoes.  She has trouble getting up from a chair too.
I put mom's head set on while Donna was in the washroom.
Then I took them to sit with Lorne at the nurses' station.
I talked to one of the care aides.  She said that mom was happy and easy to care for and Donna too. She said they have both gained a lot of weight.  She said most of the residents lose weight and waste away.
