Pink Pyjamas

Sunday, April 30, 2017
It was only 4:20 and mom and Donna were already seated at the dining table.
No Jacquie today.
I took 3 pairs of underpants to be labeled at the nurses' station.
Donna told me that mom was going to sit beside Donna and Edward was going to sit across from her.
Mom was very interested in my beverages.  I kept telling her that I was going to drink them later.
When mom's dinner was served she said she wasn't hungry.  I assured her that mine was coming.  When mine finally came, it was double portions of mom's.  I just took a couple of bites of my salmon when mom let me know she had to go to the washroom.
We were both surprised that mom was wearing an adult diaper.  I don't know if she had had an accident, but her diaper was definitely soiled.  I removed her soiled diaper, but now she had no pants.  I got the new diaper, but I wasn't sure how I was going to get it on her.  We were giggling because the situation was awkward.  Suddenly one of the nurses opened the door.  She immediately apologized.  I threw the soiled diaper in the garbage and attempted to put the new diaper on mom.  I think I put the diaper on a little too low.  It was funny.  We were both laughing.
This makes her trouser situation a little more difficult.  Now she needs even bigger ones.
We went back to the table for dinner and mom ate everything on her plate including a few pieces of orange.  She brought her cookie back to the room.  I found 3 bananas in her drawer.
I bought mom new pink pajamas.  She protested because she said they were too big, but they just fit around her middle.  I told her that I would shorted the sleeves and pants.  They are an XL.
We played card bingo with the usual group.  I separated Shanta from Anna.  We had fun.

Anna has a fit

Friday, April 29, 2017
I came after dinner.  Mom and Donna were already in their room.  I thought mom had just finished using the toilet so I got her to wash her hands.  She was carrying a bib.  I went to throw it in the laundry bin.  I wonder if she is using it as a towel. Turned out she was just about to use the toilet. They haven't fixed the paper towel machines yet.  They work, but they are no longer automatic.
Mom's comb is still missing.
Her t-shirt and pants were in the closet.
She had a lot of laundry.
Mom was wearing adult diapers today.
She had two face towels hanging from the railing from her bed.  I wonder if she is using them to dry her hands after she washes them.
There was no card bingo today so I got the usual gang together and we played in the fish tank room.
I accidentally had Anna and Shanta beside each other.  Soon Anna started picking on Shanta telling her to flip the cards herself.  Michael and I usually help Shanta because she can only use one arm and has trouble reaching.  Shanta retaliated and Anna shoved her.  We all expressed our disapproval and Anna got up and left.
We continued to play.  Anna's hand was winning.  Anna came back saying that she had just come back from the washroom.  She won two games in a row without any further incident.
The janitor came and watched us for a while.
Shanta started asking towards the end if it was the last game.  I wonder if she was worried about Anna.  I should have picked up on it sooner.

Found mom's altered long-sleeve t-shirt

Tuesday, April 25, 2017
Everybody was already seated and eating dinner when I arrived.  Mom said that she didn't want to eat hers.  I went to her room to put my stuff away.  When I came back to the table, mom was eating and my dinner had been served.  Mom ate everything except for her dessert.
Halfway through dinner mom said she had to go to the washroom.
We were a little late.  While mom was on the toilet, I removed her underpants.  Her pants seemed okay.  She did a poop too.  She seemed confused about what to do with the toilet paper.  I kept telling her to throw it in the toilet, but she kept hanging on to it.  Yikes!
I put mom's Walkman on for her.  Donna went to get a seat for card bingo.
I brought mom over and they had already started.  Donna didn't save a seat for mom so I just put her in a random empty seat.  I went to her room to tidy up.
Mom's red comb is missing.  Her hair brush went missing when she first moved into St. Michael's.  I don't know what ever became of it.  Now her red comb is missing.  Two ugly combs have been placed in her drawer.
I found mom's altered long-sleeve t-shirt in the utility room with lost and found items.  I took that top to the nursing station and the nurse said she would take care of it.  It must be over a month now.  So today I took the top and an old pair of pants to the nursing station to get labeled again.  I saw this nurse fill out a form and put the items into a bag.
I went to join mom and saw that Ming was helping her.  Poor mom.  She really can't play card bingo on her own.
After bingo mom went to join Anna and Donna at the nurses' station.

Passing the sugar

Saturday, April 22, 2017
Bumped into Veronica? at the skytrain station.  She said that mom was starting to have some difficulty counting 50 pennies and stacking them.  Mom had asked her, "Why do we have to do this?" in English.  Yikes!  The therapist was wondering if it would help mom if she had the numbers in Japanese.  I didn't think so.  Poor Veronica.
Anna spotted me walking into the dining room and alerted mom.  Mom had a big smile.
She had consumed her milk and apple juice and was half-finished her tea.
Dinner was beef stew, mashed potatoes and mixed veggies.  Dessert was rice pudding.  Yum!
Both Jacquie and Edward really like their sugar.  Jacquie pours it in her coffee and on her rice pudding.  Edward pours it on his meal.  They pass the sugar container across the table.  Jacquie slides the sugar across the table with such force things can get knocked over.  Today it went off the table and Edward caught it.  They enjoy their little game.
I bought some new clothes for mom.  The shirt has to be shortened and so do the pants.
The gang was all there for card bingo.  They were having a good time.  The new guy kept coming around and tapping people on their shoulder and asking about work gloves and clothes.  Finally I told him that he should ask at the nursing station and pushed him over there.

Hanging out at the nurses' station

Tuesday, April 18, 2017
I hope Jacquie is okay.  She didn't join us for dinner.
Mom ate everything.  We had breaded, baked fish, rice, carrots and fruit cake.
Braden played the piano.  We shared an orange that I peeled.
I still haven't seen the top that I altered for mom.  I wonder if someone else is wearing it.
Also, the number of hangers in mom's closet is declining.
Anna gave me an Easter kiss.
Michael sat with Shanta to help her with her cards at card bingo.  It was a smaller crowd than usual.  Audrey was there with her daughter.  She looked good.  I haven't seen Sam for ages.  Apparently he didn't want to come.  Shanta and Anna both won.
After Bingo, Anna and mom sat by the nurses' station.  Donna joined them.  I guess this is their new hang out.

Sunday 16 April 2017

Card Bingo

Sunday, April 16, 2017
Mom was upset about her tea.  She wanted it to be the same colour as Donna's.  She had already poured apple juice in her cup.  I told the server to just add tea, but when I poured the milk in, it curdled a bit so she didn't want it.  I gave mom my tea.
We had ham with pineapple, scalloped potatoes and carrots.  Dessert was chocolate cream pie.  Yum! We all enjoyed our dinner.
I brought some of mom's warmer weather shirts, but they were all too tight.  I'll have to do some shopping for her.
I put mom's Walkman on her and we went out for a walk.  The weather was quite mild.  She started to get anxious as we got further away.   I pointed out the cherry blossom trees, dogs, flowers, etc.  She was happy to get back and join Donna in the television room.
I gathered up the gang to play cards.  Everyone was there.  Shanta won 4 times, mom twice, Anna twice, Michael once and Donna didn't win at all.

Satomi Sushi

Saturday, April 15, 2017
Got mom ready to go out for sushi.
Got the head set ready and the bubble wrap.
Went to the washroom.
We waited in the lobby for Ethel.
Mom was a little anxious in the car.
The Walkman really helped.
I gave her bubble wrap in the restaurant while we waited for Ethel to park her car.
I put the Walkman on her when Ethel arrived.
Mom complained that there was too much food and that she couldn't possibly eat so much.
I gave her sashimi and rice first.  Ethel said I should give her the tempura.  I also gave her my shio yaki saba.  She ate everything I gave her although she complained that she was full.
I think she enjoyed her meal very much.
She had to go to the washroom.
Ethel brought her a small rice cake with red beans.  Mom was very interested in that.
When we got back to her place I gave her the red bean cake.  I told her to be careful when she ate it.  She gave me half which I think means she didn't like it that much.
Donna was resting on her bed when we got back.

Friday 14 April 2017

Good Friday

Friday, April 14, 2017
I took mom for a walk outside.  It was a bit cold and windy, but sunny.
I put the Walkman on her, a warm coat and my scarf.
She complained a bit, but followed along.
Donna elected to stay inside.
I tried to get her to try the swings, but she declined the invitation.
Her nose started to run so she wiped it on my scarf.
We were out for about 15 minutes.
She was happy to be back.
We met Donna in the room.  I suggested we play card bingo.
I saw Anna on the way, but she was on the phone.
Shanta was sleeping in front of the television, but I woke her up.  She was happy to play.
I saw Michael and flagged him down.
Mom was the big winner today.  Donna won once, Michael won twice and Shanta didn't win one game.

Where's my dinner?

Tuesday, April 11, 2017

Mom had already drank all her milk, apple juice and creams. She even tried to drink Edward's cream, but Jacquie told her it was Edward's. Edward wasn't at the table. Mom was agitated because Donna and Jacquie were served first.  At first she was worried they had forgotten her, then she was indignant that she should be served last.  She complained that she had been given too much food and couldn't possibly eat everything.  Mom ate most of her food.  She became quiet so I asked her if she had to go to the washroom.  I took her to the washroom and then we came back to finish our meal.

Jacquie said that when mom was served first she would offer her food to the others sitting at the table.  She wouldn't eat until everyone else was served.  Poor mom.

After dinner we came back to the room and I put mom's Walkman on her.  I tidied her drawers.  I found a pair of underpants wrapped in a napkin in her closet.  There was a banana peel in her laundry bin and another wrapped in a napkin in her drawer.  There was a lot of laundry.

There weren't too many at card bingo today.  Mom and Donna didn't win.  Neither did Shanta and Michael.  Anna won twice.

After bingo we went back to the room.  Mom had to use the toilet again.  I noticed that her pants were quite tight. I got her to change her pants and underpants.

I took Donna and Mom to sit in the fish tank room.  Oddly I didn't see the snack trolley.

Sunday 9 April 2017

Mom's gained more weight!

Sunday, April 9, 2017
Dinner was already served when I arrived, but not mine.
The whole gang was there.
Mom was having trouble eating her bone-in chicken thigh so I cut it up for her.
Baked chicken thigh, mashed potatoes with gravy and cauliflower and broccoli.  Dessert was apple crisp.  Yum.
Mom's hair was really tangled at the back.
Mom listened to music on her walkman.
We played card bingo.  Shanta won 4 times again.  We had fun.  Anna was MIA.  Even though she had been very enthusiastic about playing, she had gotten waylaid.  She was chatting by the nursing station with Irma and another lady.  They looked like they were having a good time.
I took mom's measurements.  She has grown another inch in her waist and hips.  She was wearing a pair of pants that were size 16.  I guessing the pants must have old sizing.  She couldn't possibly be that big.

Saturday 8 April 2017

Mom doesn't know how to make milk tea

Friday, April 7, 2017
Mom was in distress.  I asked her what was wrong.  She wanted her tea to be the same colour as Edward's coffee.  I poured milk into her cup and she was fine.  Poor mom.
I cut mom's chicken thigh up for her.  I explained that she couldn't eat the bone.  Mom kept offering me her tapioca pudding.  I kept explaining I had already eaten mine.  Eventually she ate all of it.  It was good.  I peeled an orange and shared it with her.  I had to help Donna with her cut up orange. They cut up the oranges strangely here.
I asked mom if she had to go to the bathroom.  Yes, she did.  I immediately took her to her room to use the bathroom.  She doesn't wash her hands unless I tell her to.  The paper towel dispensers are hard for her to use.
I put mom's music on for her while I tidied up her drawer.  Today we had the horse races.  The quarantine is off.  Both Donna and mom's horses came in as winners.  Shanta won too and she gave me her chocolate.

Tuesday 4 April 2017

Who's pregnant?

Tuesday, April 4, 2017
It was cold, wet and windy.
Jacquie is still eating in her room.
Brayden was back playing the piano.
Mom had to go to the washroom near the end of the meal.
Found dirty underwear in her drawer.
Mom doesn't remember to wash her hands.
Mom didn't eat her dessert.
I gave her a Mandarin orange.  She was peeling it on the way back to the dinner table.  She started to eat it immediately.  I gave an orange to Donna and one to Edward.  I helped Donna start to peel her orange.  Edward saved his for later.  I hope he eats it.  Apparently he hoards his oranges.
After dinner, I put the ear phones on mom and let her listen to Japanese music as I tidied up her drawers.  Her face looked odd.  Her skin was very dry so I put Vaseline on it.  I wonder if they had rinsed her off properly after her shower today.
We went to round up the gang for card bingo.  We had a good time.  Shanta won 4 times!
When I went back to the room to get my coat and bag, Barbara asked me if I was mom's mom.  I told her I was her daughter.  She said mom was a really nice girl and everyone liked her.  I wonder if she thinks mom is pregnant.

Sunday 2 April 2017

Back in business

Sunday, April 2, 2017
Mom was sitting in Donna's place.  I have no idea what that was about.  Donna said that mom sat in her chair so Donna sat in mom's chair.  Jacquie is still in quarantine.
We had salmon with dill sauce.  Mom only ate half her salmon.  She ate all her chocolate chip cookie. Donna and Edward both ate all their dinner.
Mom has 2 bananas on her nightstand.
I let mom listen to her Walkman while I tidied up her area.  I think that I will just have the staff put all mom's wash in the communal laundry.  They won't separate the poopie stuff.
I made some alterations on a top for mom.  She likes it.  Unfortunately it is a little tight.  I wonder if she has gained weight again.
I asked the nurse if it was okay if we played card bingo and she was fine with it.
Everyone was glad to be playing again.
Barbara told me that someone in my family was pregnant.
