Mom eats lots of dessert

Sunday, June 30, 2019
Jackie sent me a photo and told me that mom ate 4 pieces of French toast for lunch.
She ate a few spoonfuls of her dinner.  Edward asked for extra Ketchup and shared it with everyone including mom.  I put some Ketchup on mom's food and she seemed to enjoy it.
Jackie ordered extra potato salad and mom ate some of that as well.
Mom grabbed her banana and was about to put it in her apple juice cup when I rescued it.
I made several trips to the fish tank room to take our drinks and desserts.  I noticed that mom was eating her food so I stayed behind her and watched her eat.
I noticed that Edward had saved his cream container and was filling it with Ketchup.
I sat mom down at a table and she started drinking her beverages.
I gave her some bubble wrap to play with.  She played with it for about 15 minutes or more.  A lady came by and tried to communicate with mom.  She knocked on the table, but mom ignored her.  I took mom's headset off and she still ignored her.
Maybe they will be friends.
I took the Boston Cream pie and broke it up, added mom's vanilla pudding and chopped up banana.  Mom ate it all.  I gave mom Cheetos and she ate them all and sipped on her beverages.

Mom eats two desserts

Saturday, June 29th, 2019
Mom was sitting with Edward when I arrived.  He asked me my name and asked me how my dad was.  I told him that my dad had passed away.  Maybe I should have answered that he was fine.
I asked for a dinner and they gave me one.  Apparently for free.
Mom maybe ate one spoonful of her dinner while I was carting drinks, etc. back and forth from our table in the fish tank room.  I cut a few slices of baby cucumber.  I cut some baby tomatoes and green grapes in half.  I served these to her.  She likes finger food.
I put Japanese music on for her.
She was interested in the dark purple Jello and ate it all!  She also ate her pureed peach!  She ate her Cheetos and drank most of her Boost.
I sat her with Erma and the Chinese lady when I left.  She was still working on the apple sauce and Boost/milk combo.
Mom felt warm today.  Even her legs were warm.
I trimmed her bangs.

Friday 28 June 2019

Mom eats half a banana

Friday, June 28th, 2019
Mom had drunk all of her fortified beverage.  She didn't touch anything else.  I arrived late (5:15).  I quickly ate my meal of salmon.  Not so good.  They forgot my dessert today.  I just realized this.
I think mom must have been being naughty because she wasn't wearing her bib and when I went to put it on her, it was wet.  I got her a new bib.
At 5:30, I started moving mom's stuff to another table in the fish tank room.  The table cleaner starts cleaning at that time and we have to be out of there.  I have to make several trips to move the drinks, etc.  When I came back to the table to move mom, she was eating her dinner.  She told me that it wasn't good.  She was eating some pureed squash.
I gave mom a few Cheetos and apple juice.  She participated in the balloon game and refused to give up her pink foam stick at the end.  I had to come and take it from her.
I brought her back to the table and she ate more Cheetos, drank her Boost, apple juice and ate a few grapes.  She didn't eat her apple sauce.  She peeled and ate half a banana.  Jacquie said that she ate half her lunch.
The nurse came and complained about my leaving mom with a small piece of chocolate cake last night.  It's a choking hazard.  She said that mom tries to eat the tin foil off of drink cups as well.  Sigh...

Wednesday 26 June 2019

Mom drank all her Boost and ate all of her dessert

Wednesday, June 26, 2019
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Edward, Jackie and Donna when I arrived.  She had finished off her apple juice and maybe Edward's as well.  Mom ate one spoonful of food and that was it.  I moved her to the fish tank room.
She started making very strange sounds as I took her to the fish tank room.  I didn't realize it was her at first.  She sounded incredibly phlegmy.  I gave her some juice to drink and she seemed fine.  It was Jackie's juice.
She ate all of her chocolate pudding!  By herself.  She ate lots of Cheetos.  She drank all of her Boost!  She ate a couple of slices of cucumber.  She peeled a banana, but didn't eat any of it.  She ate some grape halves.
She dozed off a couple of times.

Tuesday 25 June 2019

Mom was chewing on paper and there was a mouse

Tuesday, June 25, 2019
Mom was sitting at the nurses' station when I arrived.  I took her to her room to check on things.  Then, I took her to the dining room to sit with Edward and Donna.  Jackie arrived late.  I went back to mom's room to put away some summer tops that I had brought.  I saw a mouse.  It ran to Donna's bed and maybe into her closet.  I reported it to a nurse.
I told everyone at the table about the mouse I saw.  It might even have been a rat.
Mom was chewing on something and I tried to take it out of her mouse.  The aide noticed and called the nurse, but nothing really happened.  I got it out eventually.
I gave mom some bubble wrap to calm her down.  She drank her beverages.  I put the Boost in a plastic cup because she was squishing the paper cup.
I gave mom Cheetos, deep-fried chicken skin, cherry tomatoes, etc.  Mom ate one spoonful of her pureed broccoli.  I was happy.
I moved mom to the fish tank room and continued to ply her with food.  She expressed interest in the banana so I peeled it for her.  She took one bite from the end.  She ate a slice of cucumber, a pitted cherry, more chicken skin, tomato, lentil cracker, Cheetos and her cheesecake.  I placed a spoonful of cheesecake in her hand and she ate off the spoon.  She ate a few mouthfuls.
It was music night.  I sang along with some of the videos and she started to sing She'll be coming round the mountain.  I was surprised.  I moved her arms and legs in time to the music.  Sometimes she protested, sometimes she smiled.

Monday 24 June 2019

deep fried chicken skin

Monday, June 24, 2019
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Edward and Donna.  She was holding her spoons.  She had finished off her apple juice.  I traded mom the spoons for some bubble wrap.  She enjoyed the bubble wrap right away.  Charlene gave everyone at the table some chicken skin.  Everyone seemed to enjoy it.  Mom ate two pieces.  She also ate a piece of gristley sausage.  She didn't eat any of her dinner or her vanilla pudding dessert.  She ate several Cheetos and some lentil crackers.  She drank most of her milk.
Charlene massaged mom's legs and feet and sang Hatto poh poh (the pidgeon song).  It seems to make mom eat.  It's quite funny.

Sunday 23 June 2019

Mom is chewing on her seatbelt

Sunday, June 23, 2019
Went to visit mom after lunch.  Yuki was there with mom so Charlene and I left and came back half an hour later.  Yuki said that mom was trying to eat her seatbelt.
We took mom to the dining area and plied her with food.  At first, mom was interested.  She drank apple juice, ate some Cheetos, manju, lentil cracker, etc.  Then, she started to eat her seat belt.  I tried to distract her, but she was angry that I was trying to take the seat belt away from her.
Charlene started singing and that distracted her.  I went to the nurses' station and asked for tape.  The male nurse came with some surgical tape and taped down mom's seat belt.  I hope it works.
Mom didn't eat much, but she did eat a white bean cake.

Friday 21 June 2019

Balloon Game

Friday, June 21, 2019
Mom looked despondent.  I felt guilty.  I didn't go and see her yesterday because I went to Tai Chi on Thursday.  She didn't eat any of her food.  She ate some Cheetos.
The balloon game started early.  Mom enjoyed the balloon game.  She was engaged.
After the activity, I brought Donna and mom to the table in the fish tank room.
I offered Donna water.  She drank two cups.  I gave her a few grapes to eat as well.  The first grape, she dropped in her cup so I tipped it out for her.  The cup was empty except for the grape.  Why she put it in there, I don't know.  She seemed unsure of what to do with the grape.  I told her it was a grape and to chew it well.  She ate a few.
I gave mom some leftover red bean bun.  She ate most of the small piece I offered her.  I broke it into smaller pieces and ate some myself.  She ate a lentil cracker, some Cheetos, some grapes and some banana.  She drank most of her apple juice and some Yakult.
The lady who owns Happy, the Pomeranian came.  Mom wasn't interested.  Donna was interested.

Wednesday 19 June 2019

Another good day

Wednesday, June 19, 2019
Mom is eating again.  At first, she showed no signs of wanting to eat dinner.  It looked like she had been drinking and mixing drinks.  It looked like she had poured apple juice into her fortified Boost.  Apparently, she had been playing with the pepper shaker.
I gave mom some lentil crackers to eat.  I gave her some Cheetos.  She ate all of her dessert.  She seemed a little put off when I tasted her pink pudding.  She scraped the dish clean.  I put the spoon in her main course and mixed the food a bit.  Eventually, mom started to stir the food and eat it too.  She probably ate about half.
I pushed her around a bit in her wheelchair.  I tossed a balloon back and forth with her.  She seemed to be tired.
We sat with Chris as he ate his dinner.  I ate my dessert (strawberry tart) and finished my tea.  Mom ate her grapes (sliced in half).  She also ate more lentil crackers and Cheetos.  She drank a bit of Jackie's juice.  She participated in our conversation as best she could.  Chris asked what she was saying.  I explained she picked up on emotion, not necessarily meaning.
We left her with her juice, milk and a Cheeto.

Tuesday 18 June 2019

Salisbury steak

Tuesday, June 18, 2019
Mom, Edward and Donna were sitting at the dining table when I arrived.  Donna was not wearing her glasses.  Mom got served first.  She had finished off her apple juice.  She had Boost and fortified Boost and milk.  She drank some, but very little.
I fed her some of my Salisbury steak.  She ate about 3 pieces.  She also ate half a banana.
I took her to the fish tank room.  Today they were doing a sing-a-long.  I pushed mom around the facility.  We even went to her room so I could check her drawers and clothes.
The aide was already putting Donna to bed.
I took mom back to the fish tank room.  I moved mom's arms in time to the music.  She drank a bit of her beverages.  She drank most of her Yakult.  I even gave mom some of Jackie's juice, since Jackie never showed up for dinner.
Mom ate a bit of my cake with cream cheese icing.  She ate the red bean paste from the ohagi I got for her.  Unfortunately, the rice becomes very hard.  She also ate half a bag of Cheetos.  She had quite the appetite today.  She also became bored at times and wanted to put food into the cups of liquid.  I had to distract her.  She was quite talkative.
I tried to get her to stand, but she didn't cooperate.

Monday 17 June 2019

Mom ate her dinner by herself

Monday, June 17, 2019
Mom was eating her dinner by herself with her spoon when I arrived.  She had eaten about 2/3 or more!  It was a miracle.  She had drunk the apple juice and maybe a milk.
I took mom to the fish tank room.  I found a puzzle for her to play with.  It occupied her for a few minutes.  I got the headset and played Japanese music for her.
I ate some futomaki and gave her the egg, some rice with nori, etc.  She ate 3 pieces of egg.  I gave her a piece of ohagi and she ate that too.  She drank Yakult.  I gave her a couple of pieces of Cheetos.
She was pretty relaxed today.
At one point, I took her to her room and got her to fold an undershirt.
Donna was sick in bed.  Poor Donna.
Ming told me that mom was trying to eat her seatbelt strap.  I told the nurse on duty.

Sunday 16 June 2019

Mom eats an inarizushi

Sunday, June 16, 2019
Mom was sitting at the dining table when we arrived.  Edward chatted with Charlene.  Donna was at dinner today.  Mom did not touch her pureed food or her vanilla pudding.  She sipped a little of her fortified Boost and drank all of her apple juice.
She ate Cheetos.  I was also able to give feed her an inarizushi by breaking it up into small pieces and placing them in her hand.
We took her to the fish tank room.  She was not interested in eating or drinking.  The British guy came by and helped himself to Cheetos and Doritos.  Mom started to play with her food.  She put her fingers into her drinks.  We had to take them away and eventually dump them.
I got the musical worm for mom to worry.  She kept squishing the segments.
Charlene and I tried to get her to walk, but she wouldn't.
She was quite agitated.

Saturday 15 June 2019

More stuff is missing:(

Saturday, June 15, 2019
Mom was sitting in the fish tank room when I arrived.  I took mom to her room and Donna was in bed.  She asked me to pull the drapes.  I guess the sun was too bright.  She didn't know why she was there.
I noticed that one of mom's combs was missing yesterday when I trimmed her bangs.
Today, a container with the laughing cow cheese and energy bar were missing:(
I fed mom grapes and cheese puffs.  She ate a little of her lime sherbert.  I was able to spoon feed her.  She ate one spoonful of her main course.  I ate some and it wasn't that bad.  After dinner, I took her to the fish tank room and she finished off the grapes.  She ate a couple of Doritos and more Cheesies.  She drank her special Boost and her apple juice and some of her milk. It was a good day.  She was talkative.

Friday 14 June 2019

Belly Dancer

Friday, June 14, 2019
Mom was sitting in the fish tank room.  I took her to her room.  I cleaned under her nails.  I had a difficult time trying to get her to dip her hands in the warm soapy water.  I used a wet towel to wipe her hands.  Eventually, I got her to put her hands in the water, but it took a long time and the second time it took just as long to coax her.  When I used the stick to clean under her nails, she said it hurt, but she did not take her hand away.
I clipped her bangs too.
The dining room had been changed.  The tables had been pushed back into a circle and were covered with red table cloths.  It was a festive atmosphere.  Music was playing.  Volunteers were chatting and dancing.
I fed mom grapes, cut in half.  She ate cheese puffs.  She was offered some pink pudding and she attempted to drink it, but it was too thick so she stuck her tongue in it.  I tried many times to feed her by spoon and finally it worked, but she ate very little.  She even tried to feed herself once by spoon.
She was served some ginger ale and she liked it.
She even ate a piece of sausage roll.  Mom liked the festive atmosphere with the red table cloths.

Wednesday 12 June 2019

Mom eats a paper cup

Wednesday. June 12, 2019
Mom was working something in her mouth.  She was gripping what looked to be what was once the sides of a paper cup.  I threw it in the garbage.  I could see something in her mouth, but she wouldn't let me have it.  Jacquie said I should just put my fingers in her mouth and swish it around, but I was afraid she would bite me.  She did bite, but not too hard.  I was unsuccessful.  I pinched her nose, squished her cheeks to no avail.  Meanwhile, she did eat a couple of bites of banana.  I was so focused on the wad of paper in her mouth.  She drank all of her apple juice and mine too.
I was finally able to retrieve the wad of paper and throw it out.
She ate none of her dinner and none of her vanilla pudding.
She ate some cheese puffs, a couple of bites of my Nanaimo bar and some sips of milk.
Chris and I got her to stand up and walk a bit.  Mom and I threw a balloon back and forth.

Tuesday 11 June 2019

Another good day

Tuesday, June 11, 2019
Mom was very talkative and animated.  She drank some of her beverages and ate none of her food.  I fed her cheese puffs.
After dinner, I took her to the fish tank room.  They were having a sing-along at 5:50 p.m.
Mom drank her special, high-calorie drink.  She drank two cups of apple juice and half a cup of milk.  She ate some lentil crackers with laughing cow cheese, some chocolate/peanut butter energy bar, and more cheese puffs.  She had a bit of her strawberry pudding.
I moved her arms and legs in time to the music.  I sang to her.  She talked incessantly and she also ate.
I felt kind of sad.  She seems so full of life.
Larry said that mom can stand.  He says it takes two people to get her up, but once she's up, she can walk.

Monday 10 June 2019

A good day

Monday, June 10, 2019
Today was a good day.
Mom drank some of her beverages at dinner.
She ate some cheese puffs.
After dinner, she ate a piece of energy bar.
I pushed her around a bit in her wheelchair.  I got a balloon and we passed it back and forth.
I got her to do some leg exercises.
We came back to the fish tank room and I tried to get her to eat again.
She drank all of her special Boost!
She finished off her first cup of apple juice.
She ate more cheese puffs and a lentil cracker.
I found that if I put food in the palm of her right hand, she will pick it up with her left and put it in her mouth!  I will try this technique tomorrow.
She ate none of her tapioca pudding and it was delicious.
Eilene passed away yesterday shortly after lunch.
She asked me to wheel her to the nurses' station shortly after I arrived around 1:00.
She was looking poorly, but I never thought she would die so suddenly.

Sunday 9 June 2019

Sunday afternoon

Sunday, June 9, 2019
Mom was sitting in the fish tank room with the others.
I took her to her room, combed her hair, checked her fingernails, checked her drawers, etc.
I got her Walkman and Little Red Riding Hood.
The lunchroom was cleaned up.
I gave mom some juice, but she wasn't interested.  I took her to the chapel, but there was an activity there so I moved her back to the fish tank room.
I read Little Red Riding Hood.  Mom ate some crackers, drank some juice, ate some red bean paste bun.  She was offered apple juice.  She ate some Cheetos.  She ate very little.
I put the headset on her and she enjoyed listening to music.
She took part in an exercise class, but participated minimally.  She couldn't follow.  I was with her for 3 1/2 hours and there was no diaper change.

Saturday 8 June 2019

Tonarigumi

Saturday, June 8, 2019
I met with Masako from Tonarigumi.  Mom really liked her.  She was upset when Masako talked to me.  Masako brought Yuki.  Yuki is free right now, but will start to volunteer on the weekends.  Mom was very happy to meet two Japanese-speaking people.
Mom ate a little from her dinner plate.  She took a half a banana, peeled it and started to pick off bits of banana.  Then she ate a piece of peel.  I had a hard time extracting it from her hands.  She bit pieces of the peel.  She seemed to have swallowed everything.  She drank her apple juice.  She likes the lentil crackers.  She held the bowl in her hand and ate a few.  She also ate a lot of cheese puffs.  She didn't eat any pudding.  There was no Boost today.
We went through her photo book and Little Red Riding Hood.  She played a bit with her green worm stuffy.  She listened to her Japanese enka music.

Friday 7 June 2019

Someone is looking after mom

Friday, June 7, 2019
Mom was sitting in the fish tank room.  Someone had arranged her drinks in front of her.  I was relieved.  I brought over her dessert and untouched meal.
She ate the cheese puffs.  She had very small sips of her beverages.  She had milk, Boost, cranberry juice and apple juice.
She participated in the foam stick and balloon activity.  She was confused at times when the balloon came towards her.  Sometimes she hit it with her stick and sometimes with her hands and sometimes she just sat confused.
After the activity, I fed her more cheese puffs.  I put some laughing cow cheese on some lentil crackers and she ate a couple.  She ate more cheese puffs and had a few sips of her beverages.
The put one of the cheese-topped crackers in her cranberry juice.  I fished it out and put it with her custard.  I ate most of her custard.  The aide served hot cocoa.  I got half a cup for mom, but she didn't drink any while I was there.
I noticed she was right into her last cheese puffs when I left.

Wednesday 5 June 2019

Angela

Wednesday, June 5, 2019
Mom had a squished flower on the table in front of her.  I removed it.
Dinner was being served late today.  I gave mom some Cheetos.  She ate them.
She ate none of the food on her plate nor her dessert.  She was interested in Edward's cake, but he ate it.  I was hoping that I would get a piece of cake, but I didn't.
Mom drank her apple juice.
I moved her to the fish tank room.  Angela was distressing about her son, so I kept her company until he arrived.  Mom seemed engaged.
Chris arrived.  We chatted.  I tried to keep Angela distracted.  Finally, her son arrived at 6:15.  Chris was relieved.  He said that Angela smelled like poop.  He had been trying to signal me and moved a fan, but I had been oblivious.
When Angela's son arrived, mom remarked several times about how big he was.
Mom sipped her Boost and ate almost a bag of Cheetos.

Tuesday 4 June 2019

Resident Care Conference

Tuesday, June 4, 2019
I feel like there is a conspiracy to kill off my mom.  Mom is not getting any meds.  Apparently, her behaviour has improved.  But I feel also that her appetite has improved.  Mom now weighs only 34.3 kilos.  The dietitian said that the nurses said that mom was not drinking her Boost and so will not receive any.  I said that mom would probably drink some if it were left out for her.  The compromise is that I can ask for some from the nurses' station.  The dietitian said there was little difference in calories or nutrients between apple juice and Boost.
The dietitian asked me for any suggestions, but I don't think she meant to implement anything.  I said that I fed mom Cheese puffs and these made her thirsty so she drank more.
Mom ate Cheese puffs at lunch.  She drank her apple juice.  Jackie gave mom her cranberry juice.  Mom drank some Boost.
Mom had a bath.  It went relatively smoothly.  She only cried out once or twice.  The aide placed a towel on her private parts.  Mom complained through most of her ordeal.
Tai-san came for a visit around 2:00 p.m.  We had coffee at 2:30.  Mom ate some cheese and crackers, Cheese puffs, some juice, a bit of coconut bun.
There was an activity where people were throwing bean bags, but mom was anxious and refused to throw the bean bag.
I put the headset on mom and she seemed to enjoy it.
At dinner, mom was hungry.  She tried to eat a creamo cup.  I had to take it from her.
She drank her beverages.  She was interested in the banana, but ended up only playing with it so I ate it.  I had to leave at 5:20 so I don't know if she ate her meal.

Monday 3 June 2019

Mouse poop

Monday, June 3, 2019
Jackie told me that mom had tasted her food.  I think she drank all of her apple juice.
Donna is still sick in bed.  She doesn't seem to know what ails her.
I whisked mom away to the fish tank room.  We watched everyone do the horse race activity.  I could smell poop.  Mom ate a lot of cheese puffs.  She ate and drank some of her ice cream.  In the end, I mixed her concentrated Boost, her milk and the ice cream and she sipped that.
I put the headset on her and she seemed happy to be listening to her music.
She was talkative at times and contemplative at times.
I found mouse poop in mom's closet.

Sunday 2 June 2019

Mom eats half a banana by herself.

Sunday, June 2, 2019
Just Edward and my mom today.  Jackie never showed up and Donna was in bed.  She didn't know why.  Mom was holding the pepper shaker in her hand upside down.  She was scraping the bottom of it with her spoon and making a nasty sound.  I traded her for some gigantic bubble wrap.  She enjoyed popping the bubbles very much.  It was about a metre long and I had to hold one end for her.  Edward made the crazy sign with his finger.  I laughed.
Eventually, mom grew tired of the bubbles and started the fold the bubble wrap.  I took it from her.
Mom ate some cheese puffs.  She ate half a banana by herself.  I asked for half a banana.  She took it, peeled it, and ate all of it.  I was shocked.
I put the spoon in her plate and she started to mix up her food.  I ate some of it to show her what to do.  Eventually, she ate some.  She got some on her fingers and when I pointed it out to her she licked her fingers.  She spooned the food into her mouth and made a face like it was not good, but she continued to eat a bit.  Then she went back to playing with her food.
I moved her to the fish tank room because Robin was clearing the tables.  I took her vanilla pudding and her beverages.  I sat her with another man who was eating vanilla pudding.  I brought this to mom's attention.  I stirred the pudding with her spoon and put it in front of her.  At first she wasn't interested, but then she ate some pudding.
I gave her some cheese puffs and she ate those.  She also ate a piece of red bean paste bun.  I ate 90% of it.  It was really yummy.
I played AlphaBetty on my tablet and mom was interested in it.

Saturday 1 June 2019

Ethel visits

Saturday, June 1, 2019
Mom was enjoying her favourite activity:  using a foam stick to hit a balloon.  She becomes impatient when others do not hit the balloon.
I gave mom some giant bubble wrap to play with while Ethel and I chatted.
I took mom outside, but she was anxious.  She did notice the roses and was interested in some of the plants.
The automatic door was not working properly.  I think it's broken.  I have to hurry mom over the bump where the doors close so she doesn't get stuck.  The bump startles her but I don't want to get caught between the doors when they close.
I then tried to coax mom to eat.  She ate a small piece of laughing cow cheese and half a cheese puff.  She drank a few sips of juice.  I think she wanted to go to the toilet, but each time I brought her there, she wouldn't stand.  Finally, Larry helped me.  He forced mom to stand.  Mom was starting to shout and complain.  We got mom on the toilet and he took her diaper.  I did not see what was inside.  Mom was pulling up her pants and ready to take off.  I made mom stay put while Larry went to get a diaper. I went to clean up the table before I left.

Friday afternoon entertainment

Friday, May 31, 2019
I met Jackie at the bus stop having a cigarette.  Her cats had been confiscated:(
They had lunch early today because of the singer/guitar player who was performing for the Birthday Social.  Mom was sitting with Donna in the fish tank room.  I suspected she hadn't eaten anything.  I took her to her room and got her walkman, then to the chapel.  I was going to take her outside, but there was a breeze so she started complaining.
She had a cup of apple juice, 2/3 of a piece of laughing cow cheeses and some cheese puffs.
She listened contently to her music.  She also enjoyed her giant bubble wrap.  She commented on the size.
The performer was very good.  She had a backup music system.  I sat mom with Lorne and Donna.  Mom drank a second cup of apple juice and ate another cheese puff.  She would not eat the cake or pudding that was served to her.  Lorne and Donna enjoyed the concert, but I'm not sure about mom.
