Edward is in a wheelchair

Sunday, February 25, 2018
Mom and Donna were already sitting at the dining table when I arrived.  I took mom back to the room to toilet her, brush her hair, etc.  She said her leg hurt when I asked, but otherwise she didn't complain and she didn't hobble.
Mom didn't even take a pee.  Her diaper was dry.  We were on our way back when we bumped into Donna.  She said she had to use the washroom.  Luckily there was a new aide who said she would toilet Donna.  I took mom for a walk.  We sang songs as we walked.  Then we went to check on Donna, but she was still being toileted.  Maybe it was too late.
We sat at the dining table together.  Edward came in a wheelchair, but he moved to a chair.  Mom and I were served last.  We had ham with pineapple gravy, scalloped potatoes, beans and tropical fruit cocktail for dessert.  Yum!  Mom ate everything.
After dinner I took mom to the room to toilet her.  This time she peed.  I brushed her teeth too.  She had something stuck in her teeth.  She got it out eventually.  I brushed her teeth vigorously and there was some blood.
Everyone was gathered around the television in the fish tank room watching Olympic highlights.  I left mom there with Donna.

She's fine.  She has a good appetite.
After dinner she did a pee.
Her diaper was clean.
The aide said mom did a poop and a pee.
Mom and Donna played "hit the balloon with a foam stick" and had a lot of fun.
Chris and I played cards with Michael.

She had trouble wheeling herself.
She had a good appetite.
After dinner, I toileted her and she did a poop and a pee.
There was a card bingo activity.
Her red comb is missing.

Hospital

Monday, February 19, 2018
I got a call this morning that mom was being sent to the hospital.  She woke up this morning and couldn't get out of bed.  They wanted to send her for x-rays.  I called the hospital and they asked me to come.  I didn't really want to since I knew she was fine, but I relented.
Mom was happy to see me.  She seemed anxious.  She was cold and wet.  I guess they kept trying to put a cold compress on her knee and she kept taking it off.  The nurse came by and wanted to know if mom could stand.  I was going to take her to the washroom so it was a good test.  Mom complained that her leg hurt, but we made it to the toilet and she took a poop and a pee.  I had the nurse wipe her bum.  The doctor came by and said that mom had some swelling, but that there wasn't anything broken and that she would be fine in a week.
A nurse came to tell us that a hospital transport vehicle was coming to get mom between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.  They offered mom a meal.  I chose a sandwich because it was the easiest to eat.  Mom shared with me.  It was starved.  We got moved to another station.  The transport person came around 7:35.  He said that I should wrap sheets around mom because it was cold outside.
Mom was anxious, but she calmed down.  It was a good thing I was there.
I had the transport person wheel mom to her room because I wanted to take mom for a pee.
I combed mom's hair because it was really matted.  They had saved mom's dinner so we ate it.
Then I took mom to the evening sing-a-long.  Donna was happy to see mom and mom was relieved to be back home again.  A Chinese lady insisted on seeing mom.  I wheeled her to the sing-a-long and she was happy to see mom.  Then I wheeled her back to her place in the hallway.

Mom had a fall

Sunday, February 18, 2018
I got a phone call that mom had fallen at approximately 1:45 p.m.  She had a red spot on her knee and maybe by her nose.  When I arrived at St. Michael's mom had just finished an arm exercise activity.  I checked her legs and she did have some redness on her knee.  I didn't notice anything on her face.  The nurses came to check on her.  She seemed fine.  When she got up from the chair, she said her leg hurt.  I pushed Donna in her wheelchair to the nurses' station.  As I walked mom to her room a nurse came up and asked how mom's leg was.  I said that after mom got up from the chair, she said it hurt.  I got mom to her room and was going to clean the toilet, but she started to pull her pants down.  She needed to get to the toilet in a hurry.  I cleaned the toilet, but mom didn't quite make it.  Luckily, most of the poop went in the toilet.  I tried to remove her dirty diaper, but she insisted on helping me.  I got the diaper off and bagged it.  I wiped her clean.  I changed her pants because she had some pee around the waist.  Her diaper was full of pee.
The nurse came and put an ice pack on her leg, but mom didn't really like it.
I tidied up mom's closet, watered her plants, etc.  I found a half peeled, have eaten orange in her drawer.  I peeled it and pulled off the dried sections on the ends.  She happily ate the orange, but then started to pick at her teeth.  I brushed her teeth.
We went to pick up Donna, but she had already been taken to the dining room.  Mom and I walked around a bit.  Because no one was watching television, I turned it to the Olympic games.  She seemed kind of interested, but easily distracted.  Then we went to join Donna at the dining room table.
We had turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas and carrots and banana cream pie.  Edward didn't eat his mashed potatoes.  Mom ate most of her meal and her two orange quarters.  She chewed and chewed, but didn't seem to be swallowing.  I wonder if she knew what to do.  She used to spit out fibre, but now she is drinking it down with liquids.  She really likes oranges.  I worry that she will choke.
After dinner, I took Donna to the fish tank room to watch the Olympic games.  I took mom back to the room and brushed her teeth and toileted her.  Then I brought her to Donna.

Shanta is back!

Wednesday, February 14, 2018
Everyone except Jacquie was at the table when I arrived.  Everyone had their meal already.  Stir fry chicken, veggies, rice and green and wax beans.  Strawberry tart.  Mom had coffee.  I went to mom's room to drop off my stuff and wipe down the toilet, just in case.
Everyone enjoyed their meal.  Mom cleaned off the plate, ate her orange sections, dessert and even drank most of her coffee after I poured milk into it.
After dinner we went to say "hi" to Shanta and invite her to play card bingo.  We took Donna to sit at the nurses' station.  I took mom back to the room to toilet her, brush her teeth, etc.  Her diaper was clean.  She did a few small poops.  I brushed her teeth.  We delivered some oranges to Ailene, but she was getting cleaned up so I just handed the oranges to her nurse.
Then we went to pick up Donna.  I set up the table to play cards in the chapel.
Donna decided to quit at the last minutes so Chris took her back to the nurses' station.
We played a couple of games when the British guy in a wheelchair showed up and then he joined in.
Mom had a new hair cut.  Chris didn't like it, but Michael thought it was cute.  I thought it was cute too.

Family Day

Monday, February 12, 2018
Mom and Donna were at the nurses' station.  I took mom back to the room to brush her teeth, comb her hair, etc.  Her diaper was dry.
I was going to play cards, but turned out coffee time was 10:30.  I thought it was 10:00.  So we had coffee with Joe, Michael, Donna and mom.  Santo brought his guitar over and serenaded us.  Unfortunately, we didn't know any of the songs he played.
After coffee we went to play card bingo.  Michael won 4 times in a row.  Donna won the last game.
I left mom at lunch.  She seemed sad to see me go.
I brought a box of Merci chocolates for the kitchen staff.

Sunday 11 February 2018

Soggy diaper

Sunday, February 11, 2018
Mom and Donna were sitting at the nurses' station when I arrived.  I took mom to her room so I could toilet her.  I gave her a mandarin orange to eat.  I started peeling it for her so she would know what to do.  She had a lot of laundry in the hamper so I emptied the clothes and put them in the communal hamper.  I had to put in a plastic bag liner.  Then, I realized that I had put in the liner for the dirty linen.  The hampers were turned the wrong way.  I came back and cleaned the toilet seat and mom's hamper.  Mom had started eating another orange.  I cleaned mom's teeth.  She had a lot of orange stuck in her teeth.  I toileted her.  Her diaper was soggy.
We went for a walk and sang some songs.  We met Donna in the dining room.  The door of the tv room kept getting stuck open so I locked it.
We had coffee and tea before dinner.  Dinner took a long time to be served today.  It was roast beef and gravy, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies and Boston cream pie.  Yum!  Mom ate most of her meal.  I cut up mom's meat for her.  An aide helped Donna cut her meat up.
I had to leave at 5:30 today because I have a dance class and since my dinner was served so late, I had to eat and run.

Wednesday 7 February 2018

No diapers

Wednesday, February 7, 2018
Everyone was sitting at the table when I arrived.  Mom had consumed my beverages and I had no cutlery.  Donna was sitting at a strange angle from the table.
Mom insisted she wasn't hungry and pushed her food away.  Possibly because she was scolded for drinking all the beverages and also because she wasn't hungry because she had consumed all the beverages.  She seemed kind of grouchy.  She didn't eat much.  She ate her oranges.  She ate her apple crisp.
After dinner I took her back to the washroom.  She said she didn't have to go, but she did pee and do a poop.  She wasn't wearing any diapers.  I suspect it was her diaper under the sink.  She was upset when I cleaned her bum and her woman's parts.  I put a new diaper on her.  Her clothes seemed poop free so I didn't change her.  I combed her hair, brushed her teeth, wiped her face, etc.  She seemed happier once she had her new diaper on.
There was a new recreation leader, Reiko.  She wanted mom to play the hit the balloon with a styrofoam noodle game.  Donna and mom participated in the balloon activity.  Donna got tired and left early.  Mom was having a blast.
Chris, Michael and I played card bingo using most of the deck.  We each got 17 cards.  It was fun.
Mom has a dentist appointment for February 19th.

Tuesday 6 February 2018

Pull up pants

Tuesday, February 6, 2018
When I arrived, Donna was sitting at the dining room table and mom was in the fish tank room.
Mom was happy to see me.  I think she was lost.
I took her to her room.  An aide was sitting in two chairs on her cell phone.  She moved to the other side of the room.  Mom said she wanted to go there (the washroom).  She took a pee and did a small poop.  Her diaper, which was a pull up, was relatively clean so I didn't change her.  We did some exercises.  I say "banzai" and lift my arms and she copies me.  I had her hold on to the side of the bed and we did some leg raises.  We went through her photo book.  Then we went for a little walk.  We chatted with Donna a bit on our walk.
We sat down at the dinner table and had our beverages.  Mom thought her apple juice was good.  She didn't like her tea so much.  We had ginger pork, rice and broccoli. Dessert was a lemon cake.  The cake was good.  The dinner was okay.
Mom and Donna had their shower today.  Mom's hair looked really cute.
I had an early choir practice today so I left work early so I could spend more time with mom before I left after dinner.

Sunday 4 February 2018

Poopy diaper

Sunday, February 4th, 2018
Donna was sitting at the dining room table alone when I arrived.  She said she hadn't seen mom all day.  I found mom sitting in the fish tank room.  I took her to the washroom.  She had pooped her diaper.  This time she hadn't been sitting in it for too long.  It was pretty horrible.  I had her raise her arms to distract her while I removed her soiled diaper.  Then, I sat her on the toilet.  She did some more poop.  First I cleaned her bum with toilet paper, then, I used two towels soaked in hot water.  There was a lot of poop.  It was also on her mons pubis and in her folds.  I finished off with two napkins soaked with moisturizing spray.  I combed her hair, wiped her face and applied some Vaseline to her face.
Dinner was sweet and sour pork, green beans, rice and chocolate cream pie.  The sweet and sour pork was better today because it had more fruit and veggies (pineapple, green pepper, onion and carrot).
Mom ate most of her food.  She really likes her oranged quarters.  She was eyeing Donna's orange quarters so I told Donna to place them on the other side of her plate.  Mom was then able to go back to concentrating on eating her food.  I wanted her to spit out something from her mouth because she was chewing it for a long time.  I thought it was a fibrous mass, but she insisted on chewing it.  I gave her some apple juice to help wash it down.
Then I took her back to the room to brush her teeth.  I forgot to toilet her.
I brought her back to the dining room to join Donna.

Michael is not leaving

Saturday, February 4, 2018
Mom was watching a movie in the tv room and Donna was no where in sight.  I was surprised to see Michael.   A staff member told me that he was just confused.  I took mom back to the room.  Donna was there.  She wanted to go to the washroom.  I pulled the cord, but it took at least 15 minutes before someone came.  I even told the nurse on duty.
I toileted mom.  She did a poop so I wiped her bum.  I cut her bangs, washed her face, brushed her teeth.  When we were washing our hands she started to wash her face so I had to stop her.  The hand soap makes her face really dry.
Buy this time mom and Donna were toileted so we went to have coffee.
