Copying Ailene

Saturday, May 28, 2016

Mom wasn't eating all her Jambalaya.  It was really tasty.  I think she is copying Ailene.  Ailene says she is 95.  She had a stroke and she doesn't hear well.  She's in a wheelchair.  Donna says she is grouchy.

Ailene complains about the food and doesn't eat much.  Donna enjoys her food.  Mom sits across from Donna and beside Ailene.

Mom ate all her lemon square, but Ailene just scraped off the coconut on top and didn't eat it.

Tuesday, May 31

Mom and I sat together for dinner.  We had beef stroganoff.  It was really good.
Mom had a good appetite.  Even though she said she wasn't hungry she ate most of her meal.  Today we had generous portions.  Mom finished all her mango pudding.  It was delicious.

Santa gave Donna the bag of chips she won.  Then Donna won a bag of chips.  Donna gave one bag of chips to mom.  Mom can kind of understand cards.  She knows the king has the highest value.

Dog Park

Wednesday, May 18, 2016
Today after dinner we (mom, Donna and I) went to the dog park.
Mom was kind of anxious, but we were able to get through the gate.
Mom and Donna were happy to walk to the dog park and see the dogs.
Mom was grinning a lot.
We just stayed for maybe 10 minutes because mom was feeling a draft and wanted to go back.
Donna really enjoyed the outing.
She used to have dogs.
When we got back, Chris was there.
He showed mom photos from his birthday dinner last night.
Usually Michael, Donna and my mom watch television on Wednesday evenings.

No Sakura Singers

Sunday, May 15, 2016
Tae-san wanted to take mom to see the Sakura Singers, but mom didn't want to go.
They were almost at the theatre when mom said she wanted to go home.

After dinner we (mom, Donna and me) went out for a short walk outside but within the fence surrounding the building.  We tried to blow bubbles but it didn't work well.

Queen Elizabeth Park & Choir

May 12, 2016
Joined mom and Donna on an outing to Queen Elizabeth Park.
Everyone was waiting in the lobby ready to be loaded onto the bus.
Mom and Donna both had sun visors compliments of Donna.
It took a long time to secure the 4 wheelchairs.
I sat beside mom and Donna sat beside Michael.
Mom was afraid when we turned the corners.
She sat very low in her seat.
When we got to the park, we had juice and cookies.
Mom said she didn't want to get out of the bus unless the others did.
They did not bring the walkers.  Donna said she could walk a bit, but Michael had to stay in the bus.
So me, mom, Donna and a volunteer walked around for a few minutes.
It was a bright sunny day.
Mom couldn't wait to get off the bus when we got back.
She was pushing me to hurry and get off.
Turned out she had to go to the bathroom.
We all had a short nap together.

Mom and Donna came out to see the choir perform.
Mom was embarrassed when I waved to her.
After the performance, mom was confused.  She thought she had to push another lady in a wheelchair.  I told her that she should just go back to her room.

Colouring and Bubbles

Thursday, May 5, 2016

I brought in a colouring book a couple of weeks ago.  Mom and Dona sat on mom's bed and used her table to colour.  I left them, but when I looked at the colouring book, it looked like they had left off after I had left.  I tried the colouring book again a few days later.  This time we sat in the fish tank room.  Mom finished colouring her picture, but Dona lost interest.  She said it wasn't bright enough in the room.  Of course, mom needs lots of cueing.  She doesn't know what colour or where to colour.

I tried bubbles last weekend.  The weather was warm so we sat outside on a bench and took turns blowing bubbles.  Mom was a little anxious at first and so was Dona, but soon we were all giggling and admiring our bubbles.

Last Friday when I visited mom, our place settings were at a different table and  mom was sitting by herself.  On Sunday, I sat with mom's new dining group.  A different woman who used to sit there went to a different facility in Vancouver so she could be closer to her family.

Jackie was wearing a a black curly-haired wig.  She is a card.  She said that Peter, the cat, sleeps with her.  She also has a dog that stays with her sometimes.  The couple of times, I had dinner with her, she saved half her fish for the cat.
