Clean diaper

Sunday, December 30, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna.  My setting was not there.  Edward and Jacquie's settings were in disarray.  Donna said some people had been sitting with them earlier, but they had left.  I think it may have been a church group.
We had macaroni with beef, tomato and cheese.  It was good.  Dessert was tapioca pudding.  Yum!  Mom was uncooperative at first, but she did eat about half of her food.  She did not eat her banana, but she drank all her beverages.  She ate about 1/3 of her pureed pear.  I gave her some of my tapioca pudding.
After dinner, I toileted her.  Her diaper was clean and she didn't even pee.
I combed her hair, wiped her face and brushed her teeth.  I didn't use toothpaste because she just swallows the water.  She doesn't spit it out.
I took her for a walk and we looked at her photo book.
We did a little exercise.
Donna and Joan were already put to bed.  I took mom to sit in the fish tank room.  The Black Jack table was closing.  I sat her with the Chinese lady.
Mom was not upset today.  She calmly said good-bye and she smiled.

Saturday 29 December 2018

Mom ate a lot

Saturday, December 29, 2018
I arrived shortly after an afternoon coffee event.  Mom, Zorka and Donna were sitting together.  Donna knew I was mom's daughter.  Zorka asked mom, but she didn't know.  I was taking mom to her room to toilet her, but the aide said they had just toileted her and it had taken two of them because mom was aggressive.  I thought I would check just in case, because I could smell something.  It was only pee.  I changed mom's diaper.
I got mom to walk around and took photos of her posing by the Christmas trees.  We went through her photo book a couple of times.
Dinner was served quite late today.  It was cabbage rolls.  It looked good.  I cut up Donna's cabbage rolls for her and her brownie.  Donna can't see very well.
Mom had pureed beets.  They looked like red jelly, but it tasted quite good.  Mom ate most of her meal, all her chocolate pudding and all her beverages.  I ate her banana.
After dinner, I took more photos and we walked around.  I sang some songs with her and she sang along.  We looked at her photobook again.
I was going to leave her at the nurses' station but there was no one I recognized so I left mom with Donna.  Mom was a little put out that I was leaving so soon.  I guess she must have had a good time.

Thursday 27 December 2018

Joe and Santos passed away.

Thursday, December 27, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Donna when I arrived.  I took her to her room to toilet her.  She held onto her diaper, but I convinced her to let it go.  I changed it because there was some poop on it.  Larry told me that he had changed a poopy diaper earlier.  I cleaned her up and took her to the fish tank room and we looked at her photo book for a few minutes.  I was going to get her to go for a walk, but she refused.  I wheeled her to the dining table.
Jacquie told me that Santos had passed away.  It was his liver.  I feel like I just saw him a few days ago.  Joe also passed away.  Jacquie said that he was in his 90's.  I thought he was younger.  I liked him.
Mom would not eat or drink anything.  The nurse was able to feed her her medication by adding sugar to the applesauce medication mixture.
After a while, mom let me start to feed her.  I alternated with pureed food and a sip of beverage.  Mom only opened her mouth a little and only ate a little off the spoon, but she let me put the spoon in her mouth twice.  Once in a while, she opened her mouth wider.  She ate about a third of her food.  She ate most of the pureed pear which was her dessert.  She did not even take one bite of the banana.
After dinner, I toileted her again.  There was some poop on her diaper.  I wiped it up with a towel.  But when I got her to stand, she pooped again.  I had to change her diaper.  She has diarrhea.  I cleaned her up and put her in a new diaper, but it will likely be soiled again quickly.

Monday 24 December 2018

Calendar and poinsettia

Monday, December 24, 2018
Mom was playing bingo when I arrived.  I took her to her room to toilet her.  She was cooperative.  She smelt like poop.  Her diaper was relatively clean, but I changed it anyway.  I cleaned her bum and washed her hands.  I combed her hair.
I went through her photo book with her.  We had just finished going through it a second time when Charlene showed up.  She brought a calendar from Aunti Sumi and a small poinsettia.
We took mom back to her room and put her in her wheelchair.  Donna just arrived to be changed.  We took mom to the dining room for eggnog.
Apparently, Ethel showed up half an hour later.
I have a bad cold and was wearing a mask.

Saturday 22 December 2018

Charlene and Ethel Visit

Saturday, December 22, 2018
Donna was waiting to play hit the balloon with a foam stick.  Mom was in the fish tank room.  I took mom back to the room to see if I could toilet her, but she wouldn't let me pull her pants down.  I let her play hit the balloon.  She enjoyed it.  Charlene and I went to check out the thrift store.  We saw Ethel walk in.  She was bringing stuffed animals for Donna and mom.  How sweet!
Charlene and Ethel talked while mom and Donna looked on.  I took the time to tidy mom's closet.  Mouse poop.  I also decided to toilet mom one last time.  This time she acquiesced.  She didn't want to sit down on the toilet, but I was able to remove her diaper and wipe her bum.
I wonder if the toilet seat is too cold.
I put Donna and mom in the fish tank room.  We didn't get coffee:(
I put the two stuffed hedgehogs by their beds.

Friday 21 December 2018

mouse poop and broken toilet

Friday, December 21, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Donna, Jacquie and Edward.  I was able to get mom to eat one teaspoon of squash.  She drank her Boost and her apple juice.  Jacquie's daughter is visiting from Costa Rico with her grandchildren.  They arrived last night.  Today they spent the day at the mall.  There is only a one hour time difference.
After everyone had finished their dinner, I put my chair on her other side and was able to feed her.  She ate most of her veggies and some of her mashed potatoes and chicken.  She ate almost all of her pudding and drank all of her milk.
I took her to her room to toilet her.  I got her to stand and get out of her wheelchair. She had a poopie diaper.  She also did poop in the toilet. When I stood her up, mom immediately tried to pull on her pants.  I had to stop her because we had to wipe her bum.  The aide wiped her bum and vulva.  Mom was fine.  We put the diaper on and voila!  I washed her hands in the sink.  I walked her over to play hit the balloon with the foam stick.
I played "war" with Michael while I waited for mom to finish her activity.  Mom didn't want to get out of the chair right away so I had to be patient.  In a few minutes, she was ready to go.  I walked her back to her room and put her in her wheelchair.  I gave her some bubble wrap and she happily popped it.  I wheeled her over to Donna.  I told Larry that he could give my mom bubble wrap if she was agitated.
There was mouse poop in mom's closet.  I reported it.
The toilet also seemed to be malfunctioning.  It kept flushing.  I noticed it last week too.  I reported it.

Wednesday 19 December 2018

Poopie diaper

Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018
Mom looked kind of grouchy when I arrived.  I couldn't smell anything.
She didn't eat when everyone was at the table.  After Jacquie left, I was able to start feeding mom.  She seemed happy and cooperative. She ate about 1/3 of her food, but not her banana.  She drank her apple juice and Boost.
Mom was dressed funny.  She had on an orange striped t-shirt, a beige striped t-shirt and a beige jacket with blue jogging pants.  At least she was dressed warmly.
After dinner, I thought I would toilet her.  I suspected a poopie diaper.  At first, mom didn't want to stand up, but I was able to coax her.  I walked her to the toilet and pulled her pants down.  She had done lots of poop in her diaper.  I sat her down quickly.  An aide came to help me.  I got mom to stand up so the aide could wipe her bum, but when she came to the front, mom started to whine and raised her arm.  I told the aide that I would wipe her front.  Mom was calm.  I wiped her bum again for good measure.  We put the diaper on mom and voila!
I washed mom's hands just in case.  Mom was shaking at the sink.  Maybe she was standing too long?  Chris and I took mom for a little walk.  She was fine.  We put her back in the wheelchair and put her in the fish tank room with other residents.  Donna and Joan waved goodbye after Chris left.

Monday 17 December 2018

The red sunset sky and after sunset sky

Monday, December 17, 2018
It was a wet and windy night.  Mom was seated at the dining table with Donna, Edward and Jacquie.
She had some Boost in her hand.  Mom wouldn't eat anything, but when I peeled a banana for her, she ate most of it.  After the others had left, I took mom's vanilla pudding and my apple juice back to her room.  I tried feeding her again at the dining table and lo and behold she started eating.  She ate most of her pureed peas and some meat.  She drank all of her Boost.
I took her to the horse race activity, but she refused to touch the die.  I cleaned some stuff off mom's left shoe.  It looked suspiciously like poop, but I couldn't smell anything. Her horse won so she got some chocolate.  I put half in her mouth and she ate it, but she said it didn't taste good.
I took her back to the room to toilet her.  I got her to eat some more pudding while we were waiting for the aide. The aide said she would help me.  The aide wasn't there so I just began the process myself.  I got mom to walk to the toilet, removed her diaper, sat her down, got a diaper and some towels, gave her some apple juice to drink while we waited for a bowel movement, etc.  The aide showed up.  She started to undress mom and put her in a nightgown while mom was on the toilet.  I think it was so mom wouldn't start touching her bum.  There was no poop.  The aide wiped mom's genitals with a warm towel and then she applied some cream.  I think the cream was cold because mom was mad.  Mom wanted to put her pants back on.  I noticed that her trousers were on backwards.  We pulled mom's pants on and took her to the bed.  She didn't want to stand so the aide couldn't pull the pants off.  I got mom to lie down so I could pull her pants off and she was cooperative.  I adjusted her nightshirt and diaper.  Mom's legs were so cold.  I thought afterwards that I should have taken her for a walk too.  I put a pajama top on her over the hospital nightgown and tucked her in.  I sang a song for her and she smiled.  Donna enjoyed it too.  I sang Yuyakekoyake.  Mom sang a bit too.  She looked so sweet.

Saturday 15 December 2018

Thrift shop

Saturday, December 15, 2018
I gave some Merci chocolates to one of the kitchen staff.
Mom was sitting with Donna in the fish tank room when I arrived at 10:50 am.  It looked as if some event was just wrapping up.  I asked Jean and she said it was some church group.  She said it took them an hour to get organized.  Mom had a cup of tea and a scone.  I had brought my oatmeal and berries with me.  Everyone thought I was bringing it for mom, but it was my breakfast.  Mom would not even try my oatmeal and berries.  I drank mom's tea and ate some of her scone.  She drank some tea and ate maybe 1/8th of the scone.
I took her to her room to toilet her.  Her diaper had some poop in it but was dry.  I changed her diaper.  I put an undershirt on her and a vest.  She was wearing a top, but no undershirt.  Mom did some pee in the toilet.  I cleaned her up.  She had some poop on her butt.  I combed her hair.
I took her for a walk.  We looked at the secondhand shop in the lobby.  I showed her some outfits and she was engaged.  She liked some things, but not others.  I took her for a walk around.  I like to make sure mom gets some exercise.  I want her to get tired and hungry so she has an appetite and can sleep at night.
I brought her over to sit with Donna at the dining table and then left.

Friday 14 December 2018

Friday visit

Friday, December 14, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna at the dining table when I arrived at 3:20 p.m.
Donna was wearing a new top and a new pair of pants.
I took Donna to the fish tank room at her request.
I took mom back to the room to toilet her.
She looked pretty fresh, but there was a bit of poop on her diaper so I changed it.
She peed in the toilet.
I cleaned her up.
I combed her hair.
I took her for a walk.
I bought cookies for the staff so we delivered them to the nurses' station.
I took mom for a walk to the lobby.
We looked at her photo book twice.
We looked through a Canadian Living magazine.
I walked mom back to her room and put her in her wheelchair.
I wheeled her over to sit with Donna.  Someone had taken her back to the dining room.
Mom drank all her apple juice.
I chatted a bit with Ailene.

Wednesday 12 December 2018

Diarrhea

Wednesday, December 12, 2018
When I arrived, mom had already consumed her apple juice and Boost.  She ate half a banana after I peeled it for her. Eventually, I was able to spoon feed her all of her pureed green vegetable.  She complained, but she ate it.  She was in a good mood.
Donna had a blanket draped over her legs and no pants.  She was listing towards her right side.
Chris arrived and I finished feeding her while Chris ate.
We took mom to her room to toilet her.  Donna had already been changed and put to bed.
I put mom on the toilet.  Immediately she started producing wet farts.  I changed her diaper because there was a little bit of poop on them.  I noticed the smell of poop and saw a poop emerging from mom's bum.  I coaxed it out with some toilet paper.  Then liquidy stuff came out.  This continued for some time.  I combed mom's hair to pass the time.  Finally, I thought mom was finished so I got her to stand while I wiped her butt.  Liquid poop dripped onto her pants.  I put her back on the toilet and began the process again.  I had to flush the toilet many times.  Blood was showing up on the toilet paper.  I notified the nurse.  In the end, mucousy stuff came out.  I cleaned mom up and put a diaper on her and changed her pants.  I then washed her hands.
Chris and I took mom for a short walk.  Then we put her back in the wheelchair and left her at the nurses' station.

Sunday 9 December 2018

Aide changed diaper

Sunday, December 9, 2018
When I arrived, mom was sitting at the dining table alone.  Donna was with Michael and a lot of other people doing arm exercises.  I wonder why they left mom out.  I took mom to her room to toilet her, but a new aide said she was just about to toilet mom.  Hurray!  She got the lifting contraption, but I told her that mom could stand.  Luckily mom was very cooperative.  Her wheelchair didn't stink like pee either.  I combed mom's hair.
I took mom for a walk to the lobby.  We went through her photo book a couple of times.  Then we walked back to her room to put her photo book away.  I took mom and Donna to the chapel and we sang Christmas songs.  Donna was getting anxious about missing dinner.  I took Donna to the dining table.  I brought mom back to her room and put her in her wheelchair and took her back to the dining room.  By this time, Edward and Jacquie were there as well.
The nurse gave mom her medication in strawberry jam.

Saturday 8 December 2018

Charlene visits

Saturday, December 8, 2018
Donna was sitting in the dining room.  Mom was sitting at a table in the fish tank room.
I took mom to the washroom and toileted her.  Her diaper was soggy and had some poop.  She had poop in her bum. Her wheelchair smelled like pee.  While I toileted mom, Charlene tried to wipe down the wheelchair seat.
I washed mom's hands.  Her fingernails were dirty.  I cleaned them using the surgical brush and paper towels with my fingernails.  I combed her hair and trimmed her bangs.
While Charlene and mom looked at the photo album, I cleaned out mom's closet and found mouse poop.  I reported it to the nurses' desk.
We took mom for a walk.  We went into the chapel and sang Christmas songs.  I took mom back to the room and put her in the wheelchair.  No one was watching television, but there was a PBS special with Sarah Brighten.  I put Donna and mom together in front of the television.

Wednesday 5 December 2018

Mom is happy

Wednesday, December 5, 2018
I arrived late today.  5:25.  Mom had eaten a little of her food.  She was quite cooperative.  At one point she took the spoon from my hand and fed herself.  She liked the chocolate pudding, but she was still receptive to the pureed green, orange and white stuff.  Today she would not try the banana so I ate it.  She drank about half her Boost.
Larry told me that he had toileted her and that she had pooped.  That was probably why she was in a good mood.
After dinner, I took mom to the family kitchen to wait for Chris.  I checked her closet and got her photo book.  We went through her photo book twice.  Mom was talkative and expressive.  I don't know what exactly she was saying, but she was animated.
Chris eventually showed up after 6:00 pm some time.
We sat and talked and then took mom to her room to get a blanket.  Her legs were cold.  We sat her with Donna.  There was a strange lady in their room and she was touching Zorka's things so Chris went to find an aide to take her away.  We had to interrupt the aides in the lunchroom because no one was around.

Monday 3 December 2018

Choir

Monday, December 3, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table and refusing to eat anything.  Jacquie said that she ate half a banana later.
Our choir performed for the residents.  Mom was in the front row, but off to the farthest right.  She was sitting in a wheelchair and still had her bib on.
When we got to the sing-a-long, I sang to her and she sang.  She joined in.  She sang Silent Night, Jingle Bells, Away in a Manager, etc.  She smiled.

Sunday 2 December 2018

Mom ate and pooped

Sunday, Dec. 2nd, 2018
Mom was in the fish tank room sitting at a table with a small container of ice-cream.  She didn't want to eat it.  Typical.  I took her back to her room and toileted her.  While I was tidying her closet she tried to get up from her wheelchair.  She wanted to use the toilet.  I was about to pull her pants down and seat her, but she refused.  After some cajoling, she finally cooperated.  She had pooped in her diaper, but there was more poop to come.  I had to leave her by herself for a minute while I went to throw out her diaper and get a new plastic bag. When I got back she had poop on her left hand.  Then she tried to clean the poop off her hand on her knee.  I immediately gave her some toilet paper to hold onto.  Then I got a wet towel to clean her hands. I cleaned her nether regions and put on a new diaper. She was very happy after her poop and diaper change.  I washed her hands and cleaned under her nails with her nail brush.
I told mom not to drink her beverages until after her meal came.  She immediately reached for her apple juice and drank some.  Then she gave me the cup so I put it aside. I gave mom a spoonful of food, but she didn't want to eat it.  I tried it and it was a little hot for me.
Mom ate some applesauce by herself.  She also ate some of her food by herself.  I was even able to feed her a few mouthfuls interspersed with sips of apple juice and Boost.
After dinner, I took mom to the toilet again.  She did some wet farts and I cleaned her bum again.
I took her for a walk to the lobby and we looked at her photo album.  We walked around a bit.  She was happy and cooperative.  We went back to the room and looked at a Japanese children's book.  I read her two stories:  The Boy Who Cried Wolf and the Country Mouse and the City Mouse.  She enjoyed the stories.
I took mom to sit with Donna in the fish tank room.
I brought a new pair of gray sweatpants for mom to be labeled.

Friday 30 November 2018

Mom eats!

Friday, November 30, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Donna and Edward.  She hadn't started drinking her beverages yet.  Jacquie arrived soon after.
Mom refused to eat, drink, etc.  I took her food away to the family kitchen.  It was thrown out except for the main course of pureed potato, carrots and fish, the pudding and I salvaged my milk.  The banana and her Boost were gone.
I tried toileting mom before I tried to feed her again.  I changed her diaper.  She had a pee and a little poop.  She didn't pee in the toilet.
Her hair was less tangled than usual.
I brought her back to the kitchen in her wheelchair.  We went through her photo book and she was cooperative.
I tried to feed her and this time she ate about half of her pureed food.  I was shocked.  She also ate all her pudding.
I wheeled her back to her room and took her for a little walk.  We looked at the Christmas trees and decorations.  We went to the lobby and looked at her photo book again.
Then, I took her back to her room.  Donna was already in bed.
I put mom in her wheelchair and put her at the nurses' station.  She seemed a little put out that I was leaving her.  There were two Caucasian ladies there pretending they were doing the laundry.

Wednesday 28 November 2018

Mom is feisty

Wednesday, November 28, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table complaining about something when I arrived.  She had been drinking everyone's beverages.  Jacquie said that mom was sitting her (Jacquie's spot) and refused to move.  Jacquie said it took 4 aides to move mom to another seat.  Mom was holding her cutlery in her hands but eventually gave them up to me.
She did not eat a single bite of her food.
She didn't eat her banana.
After dinner, I took Donna to sit at the nurses' station.  Mike asked if we were going to play cards, but I had to say no.  I took mom back to the room to toilet her, but one of the aides was toileting Joan.  I combed mom's hair.  I didn't notice any poop smell.
I took mom back to the family kitchen.  Chris had arrived.  We sat with Chris while he ate his dinner, but mom refused to eat anything.  I got her to finish her Boost.
I took mom to sit with Donna.  Mom got out of her wheelchair and wanted to sit in a chair.

Sunday 25 November 2018

I smell poo

Sunday, November 25, 2018
Donna is sitting alone.  I am just in time to see mom taken to the table.  Apparently, she had a big poop.  I still smell poop.  I take her back to the washroom.  Her diaper has a bit of poop on it.  She also has poop near her hip.  Her bum is clean.  She has poop on her pants around the waist.  I change her pants and her diaper.  I take her back to the dinner table.  Edward is there, but no Jacquie.
I still smell poop.
Mom eats maybe one or two teaspoons of her pureed pumpkin (?).  She eats half a banana.  I feed her the chocolate pudding.  She drinks all her beverages.
Today at dinner, Donna asks several times if she knows mom and asks her name.  I tell her several times that they have been sharing the same table and room for about three years come February.
I peel Donna's banana for her.
Donna's feet and legs are swollen and don't bend properly.
I take mom back to her room.  I get her out of the wheelchair and we get her photo book and go to the lobby.  We sit and go through her photo album.  We pop some bubble wrap together.  We go through the photo album again.
I take her back to the room.  I put a blanket on her legs and wheel her into the fish tank room.  I give her a piece of bubble wrap to occupy her.
I leave mom's new sweatpants at the nurses' station to be labeled.
I say good-bye.

Saturday 24 November 2018

Mom ate a banana

Saturday, November 24, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna when I arrived.  Donna was trying to pour her a drink of water.  Mom hadn't a clue.  I passed Donna a cup, but Donna was having trouble aiming the water so I poured it for her.  Edward soon joined us.  He wasn't wearing his glasses.  Jacquie came later.  She is really into pomelos.  She said she bought one for 88 cents at Walmart.  I paid $2.50 for mine at Denny's Farm Market.  She is taking Lipitor so she is not supposed to eat grapefruit or pomelo, but she figures if it is in moderation, it is okay.  Well, she was a nurse.
I brought mom's toy for her to play with, but she wasn't interested.  It's the one that has buttons she has to manipulate to make animal heads pop up.
At dinner, she picked up her spoon and mixed her food around, but she wouldn't eat any of it.  Luckily she ate a banana.
After dinner, I took Donna to the fish tank room to watch television.
I took mom to her room to toilet her.  She just peed.  I changed her diaper.
I took her to the lobby and we looked at her photo book.  She pointed to a few photos.  She seemed to recognize herself.  She seemed to enjoy it.
I took her to the fish tank room and we played with a balloon.  It was fun.
I took mom back to the room and she drank most of her Boost with a straw.
I added some milk and then she wouldn't drink it.
I put her by the nurses' station with Donna and Zorka.
I had mom try on a new pair of sweatpants.  She seemed to like them.
I will have to hem them.

Wednesday 21 November 2018

Chris

Wednesday, November 21, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Donna and Edward.  She had consumed most of her beverages and mine.  She was nursing a wax paper cup of Boost laced with medication.
She refused to eat any of her dinner.  I managed to sneak in a couple of spoonfuls.  She did eat most of her mango pudding.  She ate some banana.
I toileted her.  She had a wet diaper with some diarrhea.
Mom was in a wheelchair.  She seemed quite frail.
She was alert.
After our visit, I took her to sit with Donna by the nurses' station.
Chris came for dinner today.

Sunday 18 November 2018

Mom ate most of her food!

Sunday, November 18, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna at the dining table.  Mom had already helped herself to two apple juices and one milk.  Edward arrived in a wheelchair, but he insisted on sitting in a chair at the table.  Jacquie arrived a little later.  The nurse was able to give mom half her medication mixed with strawberry jam.  I mixed the leftover with her Boost and gave it to mom later.
Mom was totally uncooperative.  She wouldn't eat at all.  I even tried the egg tofu which didn't taste very good.  I had given up and taken mom's Boost and her dessert to her room.  When I got back, mom had eaten some food.  I continued to feed her.  I was in shock.  She kept eating all her veggies, some of her ham and some of her potato.  I was so happy.
I took her back to the room to toilet her.  Nothing.
I took her the lobby and we looked at her photo book.  She was very engaged.  She recognized herself.  She asked about dad.  She looked from front to back and then from back to front.
Then, she started to hunch over and I could smell poop.  I took her back to the room and sure enough she had filled her diaper. I cleaned her up.
She sat and drank her Boost.  She ate a little of her dessert (maybe pureed apricots?).  She didn't seem to like it.  I gave a piece of the baby rusk.  She crunched on it and seemed pleased with herself.  After her snack, I was going to take her to sit with Donna, but she was reluctant.  I smelt poop again.  I toileted her.  It was only a little poop, but I changed her and cleaned her up.  I tried to brush her teeth, but she was not having it at all.
This time she was happy to sit in her wheelchair and go and sit with Donna.

Friday 16 November 2018

A good visit

Friday, November 16, 2018
Mom was sitting at the table with Donna and Edward.  No sign of Jacquie.  Mom had consumed all the beverages. She was being uncooperative about me feeding her.  Suddenly she cooperated.  I was able to feed her all of her dessert:  egg custard.  She fed herself a little of the pureed peas and carrots.  This is the most I have seen her eat for days.  I felt happy.
After dinner I toileted her, but her diaper was clean and she didn't even pee.  I took her to play hit the balloon with a foam stick.
Meanwhile, I cleaned out her closet, replaced her toothpaste, labeled it, etc.  I found a mouse poop in her bed.
After the balloon game, I took mom back to the room to toilet her.  This time she peed.  I was going to take her for a walk to the lobby, but she didn't want to stand.  I put her back in the wheelchair.  We looked at her photo book.  I gave her a disc-shaped shrimp chip.  She tried to bite it, but then took it out of her mouth.  She broke the cracker in half and stacked the two halves before placing them in her mouth.  I had her drink some milk.  Eventually she did chew and swallow.  She accepted another half a shrimp chip.  This time she bit off small pieces.  She drank all her milk and then put the unfinished quarter of the shrimp chip in the cup.
I took mom back to the fish tank room to sit with Donna and Joan.  Mom hid the cup under the afghan I placed over her knees.  When I took the cup back, I noticed the quarter of the shrimp chip was missing as well.
I went back to the room and got her partially eaten banana and placed it in her hand.

Wednesday 14 November 2018

Mom won't eat and drink

Wednesday, November 14, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Donna.  She had already consumed my apple juice and hers and her milk.  She didn't seem happy to see me.  She wouldn't eat any of her food.  She wouldn't even eat her banana.  After dinner I gathered her Boost, some water, her strawberry puree and some pureed peas, and her banana onto a tray and took them to her room.
When I got mom to stand from her wheelchair, her pants fell off.  I was shocked.  I toileted mom.  I changed her diaper.  I changed her pants and discovered that they were Zorka's.  No wonder they were so huge!
I had brought a pair of pants and a tank top for mom to be labeled.  I also mentioned that mom's green pants were missing.
I took mom to the lobby and we played with the toy where you do an activity and an animal pops out of a box with a loud noise.  I think mom likes it.  However, she was reluctant to push or pull anything.  We went through her photo book.
Usually when I say "banzai" she lifts up her arms, but she didn't today.  She lifted up her legs.
I brought her back to the room and tried to coax her to eat, but she was uncooperative.  I finally got her to drink some Boost after I gave her a straw.
I left her at the nurses station in her wheelchair.  I put her afghan around her legs.

Clean diaper

Monday, November 12, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table by herself when I arrived.  It was approximately 3:45 pm.  I took her to her room and toileted her.  Her diaper was clean.  I sat her on the toilet and she took a pee and a poop.  The aide said that last night mom had pooped and was dirty.  She refused to sit on the toilet.  It took two of them to get her to lie on the bed and clean her up.  Apparently she had been sitting in the dirty diaper for a long time.
I took mom for a little walk around the facility.  Jocelyn was with me.  I got mom to take a few sips of water.  I brought her back to the room and we looked at her photo book and played a bit with her toys.  She really wasn't interested in the toys.
I brought her back to sit with Donna in the fish tank room.

Sunday 11 November 2018

Remembrance Day

Sunday, November 11, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna.  I introduced a new toy.  You push a button to reveal a cat, you slide a button to one side to reveal a dog, etc.  Mom was anxious.  Donna enjoyed the activity.  Mom became intrigued.  Edward laughed.
Ethel was coming to eat with us.  I left mom at her table until Jacquie showed up.  I brought mom over to the guest table.  Mom was very social and engaged.  She refused to be fed by me.  She did feed herself a little.  She drank a little of her medication, but not all of it.
After Ethel left, I took all of mom's beverages and her custard back to her room.  I toileted mom.  She just had a soggy diaper and she peed a bit in the toilet.  I took mom window-shopping at the thrift store.  She didn't want anything.
I took her back to the room to feed her, but she would have none of it.
I hemmed up a pair of her pants.  She was intrigued, but didn't want to try.
We went back to join Donna.  They were watching a football game.
I took Donna and mom to sit with Michael.  He was waiting for the Guns of Navarone with Gregory Peck.  Mom was having a hard time staying awake.
I took mom away one last time, but she still wouldn't eat or drink anything.

Saturday 10 November 2018

Poo poo in the pottie

Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018

There was a christian hymn singing event going when I arrived.  I used the time to check mom's closet.  She's missing several pairs of pants.  Luckily I found a pair at the Salvation Army today.
Larry told me that she had been uncooperative with toileting.  She refused to sit down on the toilet.  The nurse said that she had been refusing medication.

I tried to keep mom's beverages away from her.
The nurse gave mom some medication to drink.  Mom was not cooperating.  I turned my back on mom and she had taken the water pitcher and poured water into her paper medication cup.  When I turned my back on her again, she was drinking from the pitcher.  Yikes!
She drank everything in the cup.
I then tried to get her to eat her pureed meal.  She did eat some.  I alternated between a sip of milk and a spoonful of food.  Then Boost and food.  Finally apple juice and food.  She ate at least half of her food and a few tablespoons of her custard.
I took her back to the room and she did a really long poop in the toilet.  Hurray!
I took her to the lobby and we played with the stacking toy and looked at her photobook twice.
She pointed to dad and asked "Who is this old guy?"  We both laughed and laughed.
When she was playing her stacking toy, she became focused on the pole.  She unscrewed it.  I didn't even know you could do that.

I took her back to the room and put her in a sweater and put her afghan on her.  It was on Zorka's bed.
I put a sweater on Donna too because she just had on a hospital gown.  I also put her quilt on her.

Mom was very alert today.

Thursday 8 November 2018

A good night

Wednesday, November 7, 2018
Mom had finished all her beverages.  She drank my juice too.  She was not having any of her pureed dinner.  After dinner, Donna was put to bed.  I toileted mom.  I was just pee.  She peed in the toilet too.  At first she was uncooperative about getting out of the wheelchair, but then she changed her mind.  The aide told me that she had been uncooperative about having her diaper changed earlier.
I tried to feed her again, but to no avail.
I took her for a walk to the lobby and we played with the stacking toy and looked at her photobook.
At first she enjoyed the stacking toy, but then she got frustrated.  I helped her along.  She liked the brightly coloured top piece, but was concerned about the clean underside of the top piece.  She said the red top piece was her favourite.  She enjoyed the photo album, but I'm not sure she recognized herself.
We walked back to the room to put away her toy and photobook.
I gave her half a banana from dinner and she ate that sitting in her wheelchair watching television.
I wiped her hand with a towel and she thanked me.
We played with a red balloon for a few minutes.
Mom's afghan is now on Zorka's bed.
I took mom to sit at the nurses station.
I think I will have to give mom a chance to adjust to me for a few minutes when I get there.  I don't think she recognizes me.

Monday 5 November 2018

at the races

Monday, November 5, 2018
Mom was in a wheelchair sitting with Donna, Edward and Jacquie.  She had drunk a lot of beverages. She was being contrary again.  She didn't want to eat her food.  At one point she took the spoon away from me and started to feed herself.  I was so happy!  She didn't eat much, but she did eat something.  She even peeled a banana and ate it herself.
After dinner, I toileted her.  Her diaper was full of pee.  She pooped in the toilet.  It wasn't diarrhea.  I cleaned her up and put her in a new diaper.  We went to "the horse races."  She really wasn't sure what to do with the giant die, but with encouragement she threw it.  Each time she caught the die she was confused about what to do, but eventually she did throw it.
She complained about something on her face so I went to get a towel, but she didn't want me to wipe it.  After much patience on my part, I was able to wipe the sticky stuff off her cheek, but only that one cheek.  I was able to get her out of her chair and walk back to her room where I put her back in the wheelchair.  She was tired and nodding off so I took her sit with Donna.  Donna had already been put to bed.
I found some mouse poop in mom's closet.  I cleaned it.

Saturday 3 November 2018

Diarrhea

Saturday, November 3, 2018
Mom was sitting in a wheelchair.  She was served a half portion today.  She ate most of it.  At first she was difficult, but finally she succumbed.  Larry told me that she had diarrhea and that she had just had a diaper change.
Donna put her cabbage roll in a bun and tried to eat is like a sandwich.  It was very messy.
Edward ate his brownie, but didn't eat much dinner.
After dinner I took Donna to the nurses station to sit with Joe and a new resident.
I took mom back to the room.  I could smell poop so I decided to toilet her.  She had filled her diaper again with diarrhea.  I cleaned her bum, but she said it hurt.  I think she has a hemorrhoid so I reported it to the nurse.  Poor mom.
I took mom to the lobby and we played with the stacking toy, but today she was kind of tired.  She enjoyed her photo book.
I took her back to the room and she was ready to sit in her wheelchair again.  She nodded off to sleep so I put her afghan on her.  She and Donna were happy to sit together.

Wednesday 31 October 2018

Stacking toy

Wednesday, October 31, 2018
Mom was sitting at the table without a wheelchair.  She seemed quite alert.
Nevenka was feeding her.  Mom was eating.  She only ate a few mouthfuls however.
Jacquie had sent me a photo of mom in a green hat.  She said mom was a leprechaun.
Mom ate half a banana by herself.  I was able to feed her apple sauce and a few more mouthfuls of her dinner.  She had drunk all her beverages.
I toiletted her after dinner.  She just peed.  Her diaper was clean.
Donna was already put to bed.
I got mom's photo book and her stacking toy and we walked to the lobby.  We went through mom's photo book and then we played with the stacking toy.  I took the donut shaped pieces apart and then handed them to her one at a time.  With some cueing, she was able to stack the pieces.  She was quite pleased with herself.  We must have done it 10 times.  She could have done it more.  Each time, it was like it was new.
I took her to the chapel and sang and walked with her.  She couldn't remember the crow song, but she remembered the sunset song a bit.
When we got back to her room, she was very tired and she didn't want to get up.  I let her lay down and removed her shoes and put a blanket over her.

Sunday 28 October 2018

Mom is so dopey

Sunday, October 28, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna and Edward when I arrived.  A nurse was helping her drink her Boost.  I mentioned that if she drank too much, she wouldn't eat her meal.  I guess it doesn't really matter.  Mom refused to eat and then she was falling asleep.  I took her food back to her room.  I took Donna to the fish tank room.  I was able to get mom to eat half a teaspoon of chocolate pudding before I took her back to her room.  She wouldn't get out of her wheelchair.  I had her do some exercises, but she just didn't want to get out of the chair.  I fed her some banana, a spoonful of her dinner, a half spoonful of the azuki bean mixture and a cup of milk.  She kept falling asleep.  Her feet were cold.  I put a blanket over her legs.  I combed her hair.  It was so matted and tangled just from yesterday.  I wheeled her out by the nurses station.  She was so dopey.
I had brought a Fisher Price toy that Charlene had found second hand.  It was a stacking toy.  Mom was not interested in it.  In fact she seemed anxious.  I took it apart and put it back together many times, but she just watched.

Saturday 27 October 2018

Mom's Birthday

Saturday, October 27, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna and Edward when I arrived.  I noticed that my place had not been set.
Mom had already drunk her beverages.
I noticed mom had poop in her finger nails.  She noticed too and started to pick at her nails.
When her food came, she refused to eat.  She refused her Tylenol, but finally she succumbed.
I brought some red bean paste and mixed it with a little creamer.  She refused to eat it at first, but once she tasted it, she was amenable to eating it.  She even ate a little of her dinner, but not much. She ate half a banana.
After dinner I could smell poop and mom even pointed to her nether regions.  Sure enough, mom had filled her diaper.  I had to change her trousers too.  Unexpectedly, the aide offered to help me. I told her that I was fine.  She even thanked me.  That has never happened before.  Obviously someone new.
I tried to clean mom's nails with the finger brush, but in spite of soaking, very little came out.
I combed mom's hair and trimmed her bangs.  Mom's hair was so tangled.
I tidied up mom's closet.
I found a pair of socks and a shirt that did not belong to her.
Suddenly mom became very tired. I was going to take her for a walk, but she refused to budge.  I had her lie down and I put a quilt on her.
Donna had already been put to bed.

Wednesday 24 October 2018

Mom drank my apple juice

Wednesday, October 24, 2018
Mom was sitting in a wheelchair with all her table mates.  She was just beginning to inspect my cutlery.  Actually, I think she had already inspected it and was back at it.  I took my cutlery from her.  I noticed she had already drunk my apple juice.  Mom didn't eat anything.  I took her food and put it on the table in the family kitchen area so she could eat with Chris when he arrived.  Edward was still eating at the table alone.  I even saw him eat a piece of carrot.  Usually he doesn't eat vegetables.
I took mom to her room.  Donna was already there washing up.
I changed mom's pee soaked diaper.  She said it stunk.  I could definitely smell poop.  She did a poop in the toilet.  Mom wiped her bum with toilet paper and she threw the poopy paper in the toilet.  Hurray!  Usually I just try to distract her, but she was okay.  I finished cleaning her up and put on a new diaper.
I took mom for a walk back to the family kitchen and started to feed her.  She took one bite and was uncooperative.  I got her photo book out.  Chris came.  I was able to get mom to drink all her milk. She ate very little of her dinner.  She started eating her banana.  I gave her a baby cookie and she ate that too.  She also drank some of Chris' apple juice and some water through a straw.  She was in a much better mood today. She was alert and engaged.
After Chris left, I took mom back to her room and put a sweater on her.  She did up the top buttons.  Donna and Joan were already in bed.  I put mom back in her wheelchair and left her at the nurses station.

Sunday 21 October 2018

Mom is uncooperative and dopey

Sunday, October 21, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna and Edward had just arrived.  Mom had drunk both my apple juice and hers. Mom was dozy.  Mom and Donna's food came first.  Mom wasn't eating anything.  I put her hand on the spoon and she started to play with her food, mixing it up.  Then she took a very small taste and made a face.  She kept drifting off to sleep.  I was able to get her drink most of her Boost.
After dinner I took Donna to sit at the nurses station and took mom to her room.  Donna soon joined us.  The aide left Donna at the sink to brush her teeth and wash her face.  Donna was there for a long time.  She asked me to push her back.  The aide was changing Joan's diaper.
I was trying to get mom to get out of her wheelchair, but mom was not cooperating.  I went through mom's photo book with her.  After the aide was finished with Joan, I tried to get mom out of the wheelchair again.  This time I was successful.  I went to prepare the bathroom and get her diaper. towels, etc.  In the meantime, mom had sat down in a chair and she wouldn't get up.  The aide got mom to get up.  Mom thought she was going to sit in her wheelchair, but I walked her to the washroom.  The aide removed mom's diaper.  I think it was just pee.  I sat her on the toilet, but she didn't do anything.  I just wiped her and put a new diaper on her.
I took her for a little walk and then brought her back to the room.

Saturday 20 October 2018

Clean diaper

Friday, October 19, 2018
I arrived late because of bus trouble and an alternate route.
Larry was feeding mom.  She wasn't being very cooperative.
I started feeding mom.  She was cooperative at first, but eventually she started to get upset.
She drank all her beverages, some with the aid of a straw.
I gave her a mouthful of food and then I let her drink something.
After dinner I toileted her.  Her diaper was pristine.  She didn't even pee.
I took her to play with the foam noodles and balloon.  The residents enjoy this.  I am surprised at their reflexes and strength.  Mom used her left arm to swat the balloon and something she used both hands grabbing onto the noodle to hit the balloon.
Mom seemed weaker than usual today.  She also seemed to have pain when she got up from her chair.  She still walks around okay.
After the balloon activity I tried to toilet her again, but again nothing.  I brushed her teeth.  I didn't used toothpaste.  I gave a cup of water to rinse with, but she took two sips and swallowed both.
We went through her photo book.  It always makes her happy and she does recognize herself still.
Michael had gone to Metrotown today.  Apparently he goes by bus and comes back by taxi.  I was surprised that he was allowed out.

Thursday 18 October 2018

Not a good day

Wednesday, October 17, 2018
Mom was in a wheelchair.  She was not happy.  I took her to the washroom and she peed.
She had poop in her fingernails.  As I was washing her nails, she looked very tired and weak.  I sat her back down in the wheelchair.  She was confused.  I brought her back, but she still wasn't eating.  She took a couple of bites from her banana.  Finally I took some of her food to the kitchen area and I did manage to get her to drink all her beverages: Boost, milk, apple juice.  She was able to use a straw, but I had to hold the cup and the straw.
I tried putting some Abreva on her lips.  Her lips looked fine.
I went through her photo book.  This made her smile.
We took her to the chapel to sing, but she fell asleep.
We took her to sit with Shanta.
Michael wants to play cards and I do too, but mom is too far gone.

Sunday 14 October 2018

Sunday with mom

Sunday, October 14, 2018
I took mom to the washroom and changed her wet diaper.  She was cooperative.
I put the Abreva on her lips.  She tried to push my hands away, but once I got it on her lips she was happy.  I got a straw for her because I thought she was having trouble with the apple juice, but when I got back she had already finished her apple juice.
She ate some of her food and all of her pudding.  She drank all her Boost.
I tried sitting her on the toilet another couple of times but she didn't even pee.
We looked through her photo book and we walked around and I took her to the chapel and sang with her.  The others were playing Black Jack at Casino Night.
I put mom in a cardigan and then I put a vest on her.  She seemed cold.  Her nose was a bit drippy.
Mom is in a wheelchair more and more these days.
Jacquie didn't show up for dinner.  Edward was there, but he hardly ate anything.

Saturday 13 October 2018

Donna is MIA

Saturday, October 13, 2018
Mom was in her wheelchair and had nodded off.  Edward wasn't at lunch today.  Apparently he had had a fall.  He looks so frail.
The nurse was able to give mom her meds, but it was slow.  It was a combination of antibiotics for her cold sore and Tylenol for her arthritis.
She ate very little and didn't drink a lot either.  I fed her canned Mandarin orange, but she fell asleep with it in her mouth.  She ate all her apple sauce.
After lunch, I took Donna to the fish tank room and I took mom back to her room to toilet her.  Mom did some poop in her diaper and some in the toilet.  It was quite soft.
I entertained her while she was on the toilet.  Eventually she did more pee and poo.
I got mom cleaned up and then I went to look for Donna, but she was no where to be found.  A couple of aides went looking for her, but no luck.  Finally she was found.  Sylvia had taken her away for physical therapy.  Mom missed it.  Thank heavens we found Donna.
I tried to put some Abreva on mom's lips, but she tried to push my hand away.  Finally, I was able to put some on her lips.  It was just like the teething commercial where the baby is crying and then they put the Anbusal on its lips and it starts to smile.

Thursday 11 October 2018

Cold sore

Thursday, October 11, 2018
Jacquie sent me an e-mail saying that mom had a cold sore and needed medication called Camex. It was probably Carmex which is a lip balm.  Anyways, Charlene went ahead and bought Abreva for mom.  She tried to find the Carmex and was unable to.  We went to apply the Abreva, but mom's lip was already healed.  Turned out she's on antibiotics and her lip looks like it has already cleared up. They were doing a group sing-a-long.  Mom was mostly nodding off.

Wednesday 10 October 2018

Aide fed mom

Wednesday, October 10, 2018
Mom was sleeping in her wheelchair when I arrived.  The whole gang was there.  Ray served us all at the same time which was nice.  I woke mom up at about 5:20 to feed her.  She was quite cooperative.  The nurse said she ate her meds without any difficulty.  Larry said he had changed mom's diaper.  Nevenka fed mom large spoonfuls.  Mom mostly cooperated.  She also drank from a cup.  I don't think mom eats that well for me.  Mom ate half a banana by herself too.  She ate well.
I took her to the washroom and she took a pee and a poop.  Her diaper was clean.  I cleaned her up and took her to the talk.  It was about MOST.  The residents who were still of sound mind, didn't seem to enjoy the talk.  Mom dozed off, but she didn't want to leave.
I talked to someone in charge and told her about the people parking at St. Michael's and going somewhere else.  At first she was not receptive to what I had to say.  I don't know why Chris didn't want to talk to her.

Monday 8 October 2018

Lunch with mom

Monday, October 8, 2018
The whole gang was there today.  Staff was trying to get mom to take some Tylenol when I arrived.  I told her that I would handle it.  She also gave me some constipation medication to give to mom.  Mom took one mouthful and said she didn't like her food.  She wouldn't even try her dessert.  A male aide who spoke some Japanese got mom to open to her mouth, but she wasn't being cooperative.  I got a tray and took her drinks and medication back to her room.
I took mom and Donna to the chapel and we sang some songs.  Then I brought Donna back to the fish tank room.  I took mom back to her room.  We looked at her photo album.  I was able to get her finish off her Tylenol and constipation medicine.  She enjoyed her apple juice.  Each time she took a sip she said it tasted good.  She was shaking a bit as she brought the cup to her mouth.  I was able to get her to drink all her Boost with a straw.  She didn't want to drink milk.
We went to look at the thrift store.  Mom wasn't interested in anything.
I tried to toilet her, but she said it wasn't necessary.
I took mom back to sit with Donna.

Saturday 6 October 2018

Mom won't eat

Saturday, October 6, 2018
Everybody except Jacquie was there.  Mom was very contrary today.  She wouldn't take her medication.  She wouldn't drink from her straw.  She just wouldn't eat.
My dinner took forever to arrive.  I wonder if that had anything to do with it.  She seemed kind of paranoid.  She seemed to think that there was something wrong with the food, even though I tasted it for her.  She ate maybe three spoonfuls.
After dinner, I packed up her drinks and took them to her room, along with some banana and a container of her food.
I got her to sit on the toilet with no problem.  She peed and her diaper was relatively clean.
While she was on the toilet, I got her to drink her Boost with the medication with a straw.  Hurray!
We sat on her bed and went through her photo book.  She enjoyed that.
I tried again to get her to eat and drink.  She drank all her milk and some of her apple juice.  She choked a bit.  She refused to eat anything from the spoon.
I took her to the chapel and we sang.  She enjoyed that.
I brought her back to the fish tank room to sit with the other girls.  Donna was taken to be toileted.
I brought a box of cookies for the staff.

Wednesday 3 October 2018

Mom still has diarrhea

Wednesday, October 3, 2018
Mom was sitting in a wheelchair.  The whole gang was there including Jacquie.
Mom seemed like she was in a good mood.
I asked her several times if she needed to go to the washroom, but she said she was fine.
She ate well.  First, she didn't want to eat her food, but she ate half a banana.  Then, she was ready to eat her pureed food.  She ate about a third of it.  She ate all her pureed fruit.  She drank all her beverages.  I used a straw.
After dinner, I took her to the washroom.  She had pooped in her diaper.  It was completely covered.  She pooped in the toilet too.  I cleaned her up.  I was surprised to see dried poop from earlier on her hip and waist on the right side.  I wiped that up too.  Then, I discovered that her socks, pants, undershirt and top were wet.  Poor mom.  She must have been cold.  I changed her clothes, washed her hands, washed her face, cut her bangs.  I tried to brush her teeth, but she would have none of that.
Chris showed up and we went through mom's photo album.
Chris tried to get mom to get up, but she refused.  I was able to get her to stand up.
We walked her to the fish tank room and sat her with Shanta and Donna.

Sunday 30 September 2018

Mom has diarrhea

Sunday, September 30, 2018
Mom, Donna and Edward were sitting at the dinner table.  Jacquie never showed up. Mom was in a wheelchair.  I asked staff where in the head she was hit, but no one could tell me.  Mom was kind of sleepy, but she eventually perked up.
Spaghetti tonight.  Mom got pureed stuff.  Mom drank her beverages with a straw.  My food came last.  Mom insisted on sharing with me, but I told her mine was coming.  She was quite cooperative and ate about half of her food and a banana.  She drank her Boost, milk and two apple juices.
After dinner, someone took Donna to her room.  She was sitting in a hospital gown in her wheelchair when we saw her.  The room felt cold.  I checked the windows and they were shut.
Mom was very cooperative about going to the toilet.  She had already soiled her diaper.  About a tablespoon of diarrhea.  She farted a lot.  I let her sit on the toilet for a while.  I cleaned her up.  As she stood up, more diarrhea came out and soiled her pants.  I sat her on the toilet again and changed her pants.  I brushed her teeth and combed her hair while we were waiting.  When I thought she was done, I once again got toilet paper wads and put one in each of her hands.  I prepared towels in the sink.  I wiped her bum.  Then I noticed more diarrhea had leaked out.  I had to change her pants again.  I sat her down on the toilet again.  Finally, I repeated the cleaning process again and changed her pants again.  Mom was happy.  Mom had been on the toilet for over half an hour.  I reported the information to an aide.  I was going to tell the nurse, but she was no where in sight.
I went through the photo book with mom.  She was in a good mood.  I gave her some water.
Donna was still in the wheelchair when I left.  Must be a busy night for diaper changes.

Mom hit her head

Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018
Got a call from the nurse at St. Michael's.  Mom hit her head and they have an ice-pack.
The nurse's English wasn't the greatest.  I guess mom was constipated so they gave her something.  Whether orally or anally, I don't know.  They tried to put mom on the toilet and she was combative.  She hit her head.  Poor mom.
At least they didn't mention her having a cold.
I have a cold.
I will visit her today for dinner.

Wednesday 26 September 2018

You are My Sunshine

Wednesday, September 26, 2018
When I arrived, an aide was trying to get mom to drink.  Everyone was served except me.  I got a straw for mom.  Mom ate some of her food by herself and with some guidance.  I helped her a bit.  I also helped her drink with the straw.  She ate about a half of her food.  She ate about half a banana as well. I was happy.
After dinner, I took Donna to the fish tank room.  I took mom back to her room and toileted her.  Mom was cooperative.  She did some poop in her diaper, but mostly in the toilet.  I changed her diaper and cleaned her.  She was happy.
We went through her photo book.
Chris came by so I asked him to go through the photo book with mom.
Chris wanted singing lessons.  I went to get Donna and we all sang "You are My Sunshine."
I have a cold today.  I was going to stay away, but I'm glad I went.

Sunday 23 September 2018

Mom fed herself, kind of

Sunday, September 23, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna when I arrived.  Mom was happy to go to the toilet with me.  First I cleaned the toilet seat. She had done a small poop in her diaper.  I sat her on the toilet and removed her diaper.  I disposed of the soiled diaper. I got small towels and a new diaper.  Mom had done more poop and a pee.  I prepared the toilet paper.  I got two thick wads.  I got her to hold one wad in each hand.  I got more toilet paper and wiped her bum.  There was quite a lot of poop.  I ran hot water in the sink to soak the towels and used those to clean mom.  Mom was kind of stooped.  I put the diaper on mom, still in the standing position and pulled up her pants.  Mom was quite cooperative.  We washed our hands and then went back to dinner.
I tasted mom's food.  I was pretty good.  I put the spoon in her hand, but she told me she didn't know what to do.  I directed the spoon towards her mouth and she ate the food.  I was so happy.  I continued to fill her spoon, get her to hold the spoon and then direct it to her mouth.  With a little help, she was able to feed herself.  I got half a banana for her.  I peeled it and placed it in her hand.  She brought it to her mouth and ate about 2/3.  I was so happy.  I got her a straw for her beverages.  Mom ate some Jello too.  I was so happy she was eating.
After dinner I took Donna to sit at the Black Jack table.  I took Shanta there too.  I took mom back to the room with the Boost and apple juice.  We looked at her photo album.  She enjoyed it.  We went to sit in the lobby and sang You are My Sunshine, Yuyakekoyake and Karasu.  She sang and was happy.  We walked back to her room.  She drank her Boost and apple juice.  I brushed her teeth.
I brought her to the fish tank room to sit with the Chinese lady who was wearing a lovely long black skirt with blue sequins.  Mom looked sad that I was leaving.

Saturday 22 September 2018

Mom didn't eat lunch

Saturday, September 22, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna when I arrived.  She didn't want to eat anything.  She did drink some of her beverages and when I got a straw, she did even better.  The nurse couldn't get her to take her Tylenol so I told her that I would feed it to her.  She was using strawberry jam like I requested and she said that it was more effective than apple sauce.  I was able to get mom to swallow all of the Tylenol.  Mom was coughing and she had a bit of a runny nose.
Edward did not like the grilled cheese we had for lunch.  I enjoyed it.  I dipped it in the chicken noodle soup and ate it.  Mine hadn't come and Edward pushed his plate towards me and by that time the grilled cheese was cold.
We sang You are My Sunshine: me, mom, Donna and Jacquie.
I took Donna to the fish tank room to wait for arm classes.
I took mom to the washroom.  Joan was using the one in her room so we went to the neighbour's toilet.  Mom did not want me to pull her pants down.
We looked at mom's photo book and mom drank her apple juice.
I brought mom back to the fish tank room and sat mom and Donna down at the arm class.

A good visit

Wednesday, September 19, 2018
Mom, Donna, Edward and Jacquie were all seated when I arrived.  Mom was in the wheelchair.  She ate some of her food, but I had to feed her.  She ate some banana.  She drank all her beverages.  I used a straw.
I took her to the washroom and she just peed.  I didn't have to change her diaper.  I combed her hair and brushed her teeth as she sat on the toilet.
We played cards with Michael, Donna, Joan and Alister.  Mom was engaged.  She turned over a few cards.  One was a card that was called.  The other two times, we were starting a new game.
Donna usually has to be told which card to turn over.  Joan needs to see the card closely.  Alister is pretty good, but occasionally he turns the wrong card over.
After the game, I took mom back to the room, but she didn't want to be toileted.  She drank the rest of her apple juice with a straw.
I left mom, Donna and Joan sitting at the table.

Sunday 16 September 2018

Mom ate a banana and used a straw

Sunday, September 16, 2018
I arrived late, but mom and Donna were still sitting at the table.  Mom hard hardly touched anything.  The aide came to tell me that she couldn't get mom to eat.  I told her that I couldn't either.  I asked for a banana.  I peeled it part way and mom actually ate the whole banana.  She pointed out the bruise, but she ate that too.  I gave her a straw and she drank most of her Boost and most of her milk.  She only ate a tiny bit of her apple sauce.
I took Donna to "the Casino" to play "Black Jack."  I took mom to her room to toilet her, but she insisted she was fine.  We looked at her photo album and I tidied her closet.  I tried to get her to drink more milk and eat more apple sauce, but was unsuccessful.  At first mom didn't understand what to do with the photo album.  She was distressed. Finally she realized it was her in the photo.  It seemed to come back to her and she was happy.
The nurse said that mom had already had a pee before dinner.  She said that mom had been cooperative in the toilet.
I took her to sit with Donna.  They were just playing the final game of Black Jack.  After the game, mom said that my hands were cold and she wouldn't go with me.  I took Donna to the fish tank room and came back for mom.  This time she went with me.  I poured the apple juice into a plastic cup with a straw and she sipped a bit.
When I said good-bye, she looked sad.

Saturday 15 September 2018

A good day

Saturday, September 15, 2018
Mom was sitting at the table with Donna.  I asked mom if she wanted to come with me and she was cooperative.  I took her to the washroom.  Her diaper had diarrhea in it.  She did some more in the toilet.  I cleaned her up and she was happy.  I brought her back to the table.  She was served first.  She put a spoon into her food, but I think it was hot.  She just ate a tiny bit.  I got half a banana for her.  She peeled it under the table, but then was unsure what to do with it.  When I put it near her mouth, she took a bite.  She ate some of her dinner by herself and I fed her some.  She ate about a third of it.  She ate all her dessert and all her banana.  She must have been hungry.
After dinner I took her back to the washroom, but she didn't do anything.
We played cards and mom actually turned a few cards over.  She was engaged.  Michael, Donna, Alister, mom and me played.
After cards, I took mom to the toilet again and she peed.  I helped her drink apple juice and water and then brushed her teeth while she was on the toilet.
I took her to sit with one of the Chinese ladies.
Mom was sad when I left.

Blood on her bum

Wednesday, September 12, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna and Edward and Jacquie had just arrived.  I could smell poop.  I decided to take mom to the washroom.  Mom was actually quite cooperative.  She had a diaper full of diarrhea.  She also pooped a mass into the toilet.  I cleaned her bum first with toilet paper and then wet towels.  She said her bum hurt.  I noticed there was blood.  Could be hemorrhoids.  She was very happy to be cleaned up.  We came back to the dining room.  Mom would not eat or drink.  I asked staff for a half a banana and she only took one bite.
After dinner she wouldn't come with me.  I left her at the table while I took her Boost, pudding, etc. back to her room.  Sometimes I am successful when I feed her in her room.
Michael wanted to play cards, but I said it depended on my mom.  We didn't play cards this night.
Chris arrived shortly before 6:00 pm.  We sat with him as he ate.  Mom was in a better mood.  I was going to bring her food, but I suspected that she had had another bowel movement.  This time she went with me willingly and I changed her diaper again.  She took a pee and I changed her diaper because there was a little poop on it.
We sat in mom's room and chatted.  I tried to get mom to eat something.  I gave a baby cookie to Chris and told him to eat it noisily.  I gave another cookie to mom and she took a bite and chewed it.  It is a rice rusk cookie for babies.  She drank a bit of Boost.
Later, I took her back to sit with Donna.  I told Donna that I would take her to sit with Reiko and Donna asked who is Reiko?  Maybe I should have said Riko.  Anyways they were happy to sit together.  I brought mom's unfinished banana and her Boost so she could maybe consume it.
I asked the nurse to report the blood on her bum.  Mom also had a chunk of aspirin that she didn't swallow.  I asked that the aspirin be crushed and mixed with jam.
Chris mentioned that some people parked in the visitors parking lot and then walked over to a nearby church.  I mentioned this also to the nurse.  I forgot to mention that the church should be notified that their parishioners are not to park in the nursing home parking lot.

Sunday 9 September 2018

Mouse poop

Sunday, September 9, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna when I arrived.  She had drunk a cup of milk and 2 cups of apple juice.  She was not interested in her meal at all.  She did eat half a banana.  She took it, peeled it under the table, and then ate the banana.  She did it secretly.
An old man came up to me and praised me for coming to visit my mom.  He said that a lot of people didn't seem to be able to make the time to visit their parents.
It was Casino Night so I spent more time with mom.  She was not going to use the toilet today.  She complained that it was dirty and was about to clean it before I dragged her away.  There was poop on the inside of the toilet on the side, but the seat was clean.  I asked for it to be cleaned, but it never happened so I didn't toilet mom.
We went through mom's photo book. We did a puzzle.  Well, I did the puzzle and let her put in the last piece.
I cleaned out her closet and noticed mouse droppings.  I reported it.
I took mom for a little walk.  She drank some of her Boost and ate some of the baby cookie I brought for her.

Ukulele practice

Saturday, September 9, 2018
Mom was having morning coffee with Donna and some other women.  They were all in wheelchairs.  Jocelyn, Ellen and I headed to the chapel to practice our two songs for Kim's wedding anniversary do.
We had macaroni and cheese for lunch.  Apple sauce for dessert.  Mom hardly ate anything.  Later I was able to drink some of her milk and Boost.
When they wheeled mom over from her table, I could see she was in distress.  Then, I figured out she was crying because she had wanted to sit with her table mates and didn't understand why they were moving her.  She stopped crying and was laughing shortly.  She was happy to see Ellen.
She coughs when she eats.  I wonder if it's because she doesn't have enough saliva.  But then, she coughs when she drinks as well.
After lunch, I took mom for arm class.  I tidied up her closet, cleaned the bathroom, etc.  I found socks and a nightgown that did not belong to her.
After the arm exercise I took mom back to her room to toilet her, but she only peed.  I cleaned her bum anyways.  There was some poop there although her diaper was clean.
I took her to join Donna, but they were watching a television program about Princess Diana and she wasn't interested.  I took her back to her room to try and coax her to eat, but she wasn't interested.  I played my ukulele and sang for her and she sang along.  It was fun.

Wednesday 5 September 2018

A better day

Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018
Mom had already drank most of our beverages, except for the Boost:  two apple juices and a milk.  She took her Tylenol mixed with strawberry jam from the nurse.  She didn't open her mouth very wide for the first two approaches, but she opened wide for the last spoonful.
She was kind of grouchy and didn't seem to be interested in her food so I took her to the toilet.  Her diaper was a little soiled so I changed it.   She took a pee.  She was happy.
When we got back to the table, everyone was gone except Edward, but he soon left.  Mom ate most of her pureed vegetable.  I was happy.  She ate it by herself.  Michael came by and said that mom was really good at the bean bag toss. He hasn't been using his walker recently.  He's using a cane only.  He doesn't look too steady.
Since that was all she was going to eat, I took her back to the room and toileted her again.  Nothing came out, but there was another poop stain which I wiped up with a towel. While she was on the toilet, I got her to comb her hair at the back which was a little tangled.
We went through her photo album.  I tidied her closet a bit.  I find some people don't dress mom well. I tried to put together outfits and included an undershirt on the hanger.  Hope it works.
I had to change mom's shirt because there was a poop stain at the back.
I cleaned her nails with the nail brush.
We played cards.  She wasn't too engaged.  She kept saying she couldn't do it.  She tried to turn over the wrong card.  She did flip a few cards over at the end of the game. She has the manual dexterity.
After cards, I brought out a puzzle, but Donna and mom didn't have a clue.  I'll try again some other time.

Monday 3 September 2018

Mom is uncooperative

Monday, September 3, 2018
Mom was sitting with a bunch of other ladies and Donna when I arrived.  She didn't want to come with me.  An aide started taking Donna to the dining room.  Mom wanted to follow her, but the aide made her go with me.  I took mom to the washroom.  She peed and then I saw a poop coming out.  I was able to distract mom, otherwise, she would try to touch her bum.  I put lots of toilet paper in both of her hands.  I get her to stand, then I wipe her bum with toilet paper, including the toilet paper in her hands.  Then I use a wet towel to finish off.  Sometimes I need several towels.  Today was just one towel, because all the poop went in the toilet.
I washed her hands.  I usually use a nail brush if her nails are dirty.  I combed her hair.  I get her to comb her own hair at the back because it is especially tangly and she can do it.
Mom drank all her beverages.  She even drank tea.  Usually she doesn't like tea.  She must have been very thirsty.
Mom hardly ate any dinner.  The food was pretty tasteless.  I added sugar and salt, but she would have none of it.  I gave her some orange.  She peeled it and then was confused.  I took the membrane off, but then she didn't want to eat it.  I gave her another orange section.  She peeled it.  Then she removed a section and put it in her mouth.  Then she put the other sections in her mouth.  She chewed and chewed, but did not swallow all the fibrous bits.  I gave her apple juice and she drank it all, but the fibrous membrane remained.  I tried to remove it from her mouth, but she would have none of it.  I took Donna back to the room and came back for mom.  Mom came with me, but she did not want to use the toilet and she would not let me brush her teeth.  I brought her back to sit with the other ladies.  She would not part with the fibrous mass in her mouth.  I told the aide before I left.

Sunday 2 September 2018

One poopie diaper

Sunday, Sept. 2nd, 2018
Mom and Donna were seated when I arrived.  Donna was served first.  Jacquie joined us today for dinner.  She had gone to the PNE last night with her daughter and grandchildren.  The aide cut up Donna's spaghetti.  Donna's bib came undone and she got spaghetti down the front of her.  My mom pointed out that Donna's bib had spaghetti sauce on it.
Mom ate by herself.  She ate about a third of her dinner.  She drank all her beverages.  I was happy.
Edward got wheeled in later.  He seemed to have a good appetite.  I took Donna to sit at the Black Jack table.  It was early, but she was okay.  She likes to sit with Michael.  Shanta too.  My mom not so much.  Funny, she likes Joe.  I like Joe too.
I took mom to the toilet, but nothing happened so I let her sit there.  I was tidying up her closet.  Unfortunately, she had gotten up from the toilet and pulled up her pants.  I don't think she peed.
I gave mom her photo book to look at while I finished tidying the closet.
I brushed her teeth.  She was reluctant, but somehow she understands that her teeth will fall out if I don't clean them.  She is always concerned when she sees her gap toothed smile.
I took mom for a walk and we ate the baby crackers.  She seemed content.  The crackers were a bit dry so I got her some water.  I had a cough too.
I took her to sit with everyone at the poker table, but she wanted to leave.
I took her to the toilet and she had a poopie diaper.  She did more poop in the toilet.  She tried to clean herself, luckily I had already put toilet paper in her hands.  I got her cleaned up.
I took her back to the poker table and she seemed fine when I said good-bye.  Shanta had fallen asleep.

Saturday 1 September 2018

Two poopy diapers

Saturday, September 1, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna and Edward when we arrived.  I didn't see Jacquie at all.  Mom never got her dinner as far I could see until I asked for it.  she only ate one mouthful anyways.  She took a small bite to the onigiri I gave her.  She ate a little of the manju.  She ate half an orange.  However, she just chewed on the fibrous bits.  Luckily I was able to get the fibrous mass out of her mouth.  She ate very little.
I took her to the washroom.  She peed and that was it.
We went to play cards.  Shanta joined us today because Alan wasn't around.  Joan joined us, but she kept saying she couldn't see.  Poor Joan.  She can't hear either.  Joe came to join us.  I gave Joe mom's spot.  Alister wanted to join us, but there was no space.  Mom was getting grouchy.  I got Michael to take over. I took her to the washroom and she pooped.  It was diarrhea.
She seemed happy for a while and then she was grouchy again.  After we finished cards and everyone started to disperse, she wouldn't come with me.  I took Shanta back to her room.  Then I took Donna to the nurses station.  I went back for mom and she was already on her way.  I took her to the room to feed her, but she was stinky and it turned out she had filled her diaper again.  I cleaned her up and went back to the nurses station.  They were all having hot cocoa.  Mom had a Boost.  Donna gave mom half of her cookie.  Mom had a cookie in one hand and a cup in another.  She wasn't happy. She didn't like it when I hugged her.  I said good-bye and then she told me to be careful.

Wednesday 29 August 2018

Mom bit her lip and was grouchy

Wednesday, August 29, 2018
Mom was seated when I arrived.  Her food was already served.  Today it was Donna who was served last.  Edward ate some of his food.  Mom ate some of her food.  I took her to the washroom after dinner, but she just peed.  I ran into Larry and he said that he toileted her at 4:30 and she just peed.
Her finger nails were dirty so I cleaned them.  I brushed her teeth.  She was able to rinse her mouth the first couple of times.  I had to hold the cup for her, but she was able to spit water out.
We went through mom's photo book and I was able to get her to finish her apple juice.  She likes apple juice.  She drank from the cup, but I had to help her at the end.
We played card bingo with Joan, Michael, Alister, Donna and mom.  Chris helped mom, but mom was grouchy.  I think she was making faces at Chris.  Poor Chris.  In the end, mom was grouchy at me too.
I noticed her mouth was bleeding.  I called the nurse.  She said she thought mom had bit her lip.  She said it was the second one today.  Poor mom.
Mom was upset that I was leaving.
When I got home, I found out that Ethel had visited mom earlier in the day.

Sunday 26 August 2018

Another good day - mom ate 2/3 of her dinner and took a poo

Sunday, August 26, 2018
Mom was in a good mood.  She was engaged with the other people at the table.  She participated by lifting her cup when we raised our cups. She didn't eat much.  She fed herself a couple of spoonfuls of food.  She swallowed most of the medicine the nurse brought.  She ate some of my ham, peas and scalloped potato.  Periodically I asked her about her tummy.  Finally she said her tummy felt funny.  I took her to the washroom.  Her diaper was relatively clean, but I changed it.  She took a pee and then I could see a poop coming out of her butt.  She tried to touch it.  I put toilet paper in both of her hands.  She scooped up a small poop with the toilet paper and showed it to me.  I took it and put it in the toilet.  I wiped her bum with the toilet paper and was going to the sink to rinse out some towels when she tried to pull her pants back up.  I wiped her bum and then put her diaper on.  She was very happy.
I washed her hands in the sink with the finger nail brush.
We went back to the table.  Everyone was gone.  When we sat down, mom ate.  I fed her almost 2/3 of her dinner.  She probably would have eaten more, but because I know she usually eats very little, I didn't want her to clean off her plate.
The kitchen lady was very kind and didn't rush us.  I took the milk and Boost and banana back to the room.  We looked at mom's photo book and she was very happy.  I tried to put the headset on her, but she wasn't too keen.  I gave her a baby cookie and she ate about half.
I took mom to sit with the group playing Black Jack.  She was happy just to sit and watch.

Saturday 25 August 2018

Mom isn't in her wheelchair

Saturday, August 25, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Donna when I arrived.  She was not in a wheelchair and she was alert.  She was in a good mood.  She drank some of her apple juice, some of her Boost and a few sips of her milk.  She ate some of her food.  She ate all the pureed spaghetti sauce and one mouthful of the pureed carrot.  She had one teaspoon of pureed strawberry.
Somehow I knew she had to go to the washroom.  She got up from the chair with no problem and we went to the washroom.  I had already wiped it down earlier when I had arrived.  She had some poop on her diaper so I had to change it.  She did a small poop.
I tried to get her to eat banana and her milk/Boost, but she only had a small sip.
I took her to play cards.  I asked Alan about Shanta and he said he was going to bring her, but he didn't.  I don't know why.  Anyways I asked Zorka and Alister.  Joan and Joe wanted to join, but we already had five players.  Everyone had a good time and thanked me except mom who seemed angry at me the whole time.
After the game I was going to take her back to the room, but she refused.  I went back to her room to put away the cards.  When I got back mom, Donna and Zorka were still sitting at the table.  Zorka was getting mom all riled up.  She has a loud voice and sounds angry which gets mom in a huff.
Mom was willing to go away with me this time.  I toileted her one final time.  I brushed her teeth as she sat on the toilet.  She noticed her teeth were missing so I told her she had to brush her teeth or her teeth would fall out.  I don't know if she understood what I was saying.
I brought her back to sit with Donna.  Zorka was trying to figure out how to unlock Donna's wheelchair, but it was already unlocked.  Mom and Donna were happy to sit together.

Wednesday 22 August 2018

Wheelchair day

Wednesday, August 22, 2018
Mom was in a wheelchair.  She didn't smile when she saw me.  She looked grouchy.  Soon she was smiling.  She didn't want to eat anything.  She did drink her Boost.
She had a few bites of orange sherbert, a few bites of banana, a few bites of her dinner.  She drank most of her apple juice and ate a baby biscuit I brought for her.
I toileted mom after dinner.  She had skid marks on her diaper.  She peed and farted.  I asked the nurse and she said that mom had had a large bowel movement in the morning.
I had a hard time getting mom out of the wheelchair to toilet her.
Once I got her up she was okay.  I washed her hands with the nail brush.
We played card bingo.  I got Joan to join us.  Mom was engaged and did flip over a couple of cards. We saw Alan and Shanta come by as we were finishing.  I asked Alan if his mom could play cards because the nurse said that she was supposed to stay in her room.  Alan said that his mom had a skin condition, but that it was now healed.  We finished earlier than usual because Donna was in distress.  Maybe she had pain.  She just wanted to be wheeled over to the nurses station.
Mom didn't want to get up from her chair so I brought her food to her: milk, apple juice, baby cookie, banana.  She was biting the cookie and drinking the apple juice.  I did some exercises with her.  She tapped her feet on the ground.

Sunday 19 August 2018

New care aide

Sunday, August 19, 2018
Donna was seated, but mom was no where in sight.  I checked the television room.  When I came back to the dining room, I saw mom being escorted by Larry.  He said mom had just taken a pee.
Edward showed up next, then came Jacquie.  They were relatively late serving dinner.  We got our dinners served about the same time at our table.  An aide came to ask about feeding mom, but I explained to her that mom didn't eat for me either.  I could tell that mom liked the aide. The nurse came to give mom her Tylenol and she took that without too much trouble.  Mom was happy to drink her beverages, but she just drank half a cup of her Boost and half a cup of her apple juice.
Finally mom ate some of her food.  She just ate about a quarter of her food and two bites of her banana.  Someone came to take Donna away to join the Black Jack game.  Edward left on his own.
Mom said something about her lower body so I rushed her to the washroom.  She had pooped a little in her diaper, but she pooped most of it in the toilet.  I cleaned her up without too much difficulty.
I brought mom's milk back with us and she drank about a half of it.  I gave her a baby cookie and she liked it.  We went through her photo book.  She enjoyed it.  I put the walkman on her and she listened for a bit.  We went for a little walk.  I came back and tried to get her to drink more milk.  Then I brushed her teeth.  She spit the water out after rinsing.  Very good.
I brought her back to the fish tank room and sat her with Donna.  They were happy to sit together.

Saturday 18 August 2018

Lunch with Ellen and Jocelyn

Saturday, August 18, 2018
Ellen was sitting with mom, Donna, Jacquie and Edward when Jocelyn and I arrived.
We moved to a private table.  Mom didn't eat any of her food.  She did drink most of her beverages.
She fed herself some of her apple sauce.  She was happy to sit with Ellen.
After lunch I toileted mom.  She had pooped.  The care aide came to help me.
We went to the chapel to practice our song for Kim and Larry's anniversary.
Mom and Donna sang along.
After our rehearsal, Donna went to go and see the afternoon movie.
I had trouble getting mom to stand up.  I took mom back to her room to put her in a wheelchair, but she wanted to lie down.  She took off her shoes and lay in bed.  Maybe she thought it was night time.
Anyways she was pretty cheerful.

Wednesday 15 August 2018

Poo poo in the potty!

Wednesday, August 15, 2018
Mom was sitting with Donna and Edward when I arrived.  She was in a wheelchair.  She seemed alert and happy.  She had consumed several containers of half and half single serve creamers.  She took her medication without too much trouble.
My dinner was served almost last.  Mom wouldn't eat until I got served.  She only ate a few spoonfuls of food.  I took some food back to her room.
I toileted mom.  Her diaper was full of pee.
Mom didn't want to get out of the wheelchair and required coaxing.
I don't know if she has pain or she is just being uncooperative.
Once she is walking, she seems fine.
We played cards with Michael, Donna, Joan, mom and Chris.  Mom hardly participated.  At one point she said she had a tummy ache, but then she didn't.
After cards I took mom back to the room and she ate a bit of banana and a bit of baby cookie.
I toileted mom.  She was on the toilet for a while and she pooped.  I was very happy.  I told the nurse and she came to see.  It wasn't much, but it wasn't diarrhea.
I took mom to sit with the rest of the gang.

Tuesday 14 August 2018

Dr. Cameron

Tuesday, August 14, 2018
Dr. Cameron called today at 5:18 pm.
Mom has diarrhea now so he is discontinuing her laxative.
He is going to change her sleeping medication time to earlier in the evening.
Right now it is 8:00 p.m. and he will change it to 5:00 p.m.
Mom is awake in the middle of the night and then she can't get up in the morning.
The nurses seem to think that mom is in pain.  She won't take her Tylenol.
The doctor said he could prescribe a patch.
He is going to try two things: discontinue the laxative and have her sleeping medication administered earlier in the evening.

Sunday 12 August 2018

Bunny Grahams

Sunday, August 12th, 2018
I found the Chinese lady with the injured foot trying to get into the administration hall.  I notified staff and she was grateful. Mom and Donna were nowhere to be found.  I found them at last in the television room.
I took mom and toileted her.  She had a dirty diaper.  I cleaned her up and put her in a new diaper.
We had Maryland chicken.  I got a huge portion.  It was good.  Mom ate about 1/3 of her meal by herself.  I was very happy.  I let her eat some orange, but she kept chewing on the pulp and was confused about what to do. I took Donna back to the fish tank room and she was occupied eating her half of a banana.
When I went to get mom, she was uncooperative.  An aide helped me to get her up from the chair.
I took mom back to the room and toileted her.  She just peed.  We went through her photo book and she was very engaged and happy.  She ate some banana and drank most of her beverages.  I gave her a baby cookie.  She bit it and smiled.  She liked it.  I gave her some Bunny Grahams and she liked those as well.  So cute.
I brushed her teeth and gave her hair a trim. I may cut it as well.
I put a summer nightgown in her closet.
Mom's lost a lot of weight.
I brought mom back to sit with Donna and another Chinese lady.

Wednesday 8 August 2018

No Chris

Wednesday, August 8, 2018
I arrived late.  I missed my bus and had to walk in the heat.
Mom, Donna and Edward were having dinner.  Mom as in her wheelchair. Mom had drank some of her beverages, but hadn't had anything to eat.  Edward barely touched his dinner.  It was Shepherd's pie, Chris' favourite.
Mom is still on antibiotics.  She started on the 5th and will finish on the 15th.  I was able to get a few spoonfuls of dinner and dessert in mom and some milk.  She really didn't consume much.  She was dozing when I arrived. I was sweating buckets.
After dinner I took her back to the room to toilet her.  She just peed.  Her diaper was clean but her nails were dirty.  I used the brush to clean them. I brushed her teeth and washed her face.
We played card bingo.  Alan didn't let his mom join us.  Weird guy. Creepy guy.
Donna, Michael, mom and me.  Chris must have gone on vacation.
After cards, mom didn't want to get out of her chair.  I went and got her wheelchair and was able to transfer her.  I wonder if she is just overly drugged.
I sang You are My Sunshine, Michael Row your Boat Ashore and Amazing Grace with Donna.

Monday 6 August 2018

New undershirt

Monday, August 6, 2018
Mom was sitting at the table with Donna.  She was in a wheelchair.  I could smell poop.  I took mom to her room to toilet her.  There was poop on her thigh and some down her leg.  There was a tiny bit in her diaper, but I changed it anyways.  I changed her pants too.
It was 5:30 p.m. and mom had refused to eat anything.  I had given up and started carting her beverages to her room.  When I got back, I tried feeding mom again and she allowed me to.
She wasn't opening her mouth wide enough.  It might be because some aides put too much food in her mouth.  I wonder if that was how her teeth got broken.  Anyways I was able to feed her about a 1/4 of her food.  She enjoyed her apple juice. When we got back to the room, I toileted her again.  She did some wet farts and there was poop in the toilet.  I forgot to report this to the nurse.
We played card bingo with Alister, Zorka, Michael, mom and me.  Donna chose to be toileted, but they didn't actually toilet her until after mom and I got back from the card game.
I showed mom the clothes I brought for her.  I bought a new undershirt from Uniqlo that I requested to be labeled.  I brought an old shirt and undershirts.  She's lost weight so maybe they will fit her again.  We went through mom's photo book.  I got her to drink most of her Boost and some of her milk.  I brought her back out to sit at the nurses station and she seemed happy.  There was a fan so I asked her several times if she felt cold, but she said she was fine.  I supposed she could always get up and walk away if she got too cold.

E. coli

Sunday, August 5, 2018
Mom was sitting at the dining table with Donna.
She was fussing about something.
The aide told me that Larry had just toileted her and all that came out was pee.
The nurse said that mom had E. coli.  Mom is on medication.
I fed mom some blue berries.  She ate very few.  Donna liked them.
Mom ate all her orange veggies.  Maybe it was pureed carrot.  She drank most of her beverages. She ate a few bites of banana.
After dinner I took mom back to the room.  She wanted to lie down for a bit.  After a few minutes, I was able to get her up and toileted her.  She just peed, I thought, but I decided to wipe her bum and a small piece of poop fell out.
I combed mom's hair and wiped her face.
It was Casino night so I didn't play card bingo.
Donna didn't want to play Black Jack so she sat with the others in the fish tank room.
I could spend more time with just mom.
We went through her photo book.  She enjoyed it.
She ate a bite of banana.
I took her for a walk.
I brushed her teeth and she drank some water.  I was surprised because she usually doesn't drink water.  I took her to sit with Donna by the nurses station.

summer outfit

Saturday, August 4, 2018
I was happy to see mom in a nice summer outfit.  She was wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt and beige pants.  Last Wednesday, she was wearing black pants and a long-sleeved waffle cotton shirt.
Mom had drank all her beverages and was busy taking possession of Edward's beverages.  Donna was trying to stop her and she was saying something like, none of your business.  Oh mom.  I rearranged the beverages.  I brought a salad and ate that.  They had oven fried chicken and it looked good.  Edward was happy.  Chicken is his favourite.  Mom played with her food.  She mixed it all up, but would eat none of it.  The nurse was able to give mom her Tylenol.  In fact, mom was not in her wheelchair today.  She was walking.  I gave mom half a banana.  She ate it!  She ate it to the last little bit.  She told me she had to go to the washroom and when we got there, she took a pee.  I changed her diaper because there were some poop stains.  I wiped her bum, but it was clean.  I gave her milk/Boost to hold and she drank it all.
We played card bingo with Alister, Michael, Joan, Shanta and mom.  Mom was pretty engaged for the most part.  Alister and Joan looked like they wanted to communicate, but Joan is quite deaf and Alister can't write because of a stroke.
After cards,  I brought mom back to the room so I could toilet her again.  Nothing came out.  I trimmed her bangs and brushed her teeth.
I left her in the fish tank room.
