New Year's Eve

Sunday, December 31, 2017
Met Jacquie on the bus to St. Michael's.
Dinner was sweet and sour pork, rice and beans. Mom hardly ate anything.  However she did drink my milk and eat some of my fruit cocktail.  The fruit cocktail was delicious.
Changed mom's diaper, brushed her teeth, watered her plant.  There were 4 pairs of pants in mom's laundry basket.
I gave mom a clementine to eat.
Then we opened up Aunti Sumi's gift.  I had to help mom unwrap it.  She seemed happy.  She liked the pictures in the calendar.
We played card bingo.  Michael brought chocolates instead of Monopoly money.
After cards, I sat mom with George and another lady who wears hats and hums.
Joan asked about Barbara.  She couldn't remember her name, but she asked about her.  I said that she would be coming back after the holidays.  I hope so.  Joan probably misses her.

Joan joined us for card bingo

Saturday, December 30, 2017
Jacquie and I saw each other as I came in.  She was going down the elevator for a smoke outside.  She said that Donna had come back.  Thank heavens!
Mom, Donna and Edward were just finishing up dinner.
It was butter chicken, peas and rice.  Dessert was a lemon tart.
I took mom to the bathroom and she took a pee.  I changed her diaper and wiped her bum.
Her hair was not so tangled.  I helped her brush her teeth.  I wiped her face with a towel.
Donna brushed her teeth too.  I hope they brush their teeth again after hot cocoa and a cookie.
We played card bingo.  Joan joined us.  Her vision is not so good.  Her hearing is worse.  She was able to play with a lot of help.
After card bingo we went to the fish tank room for hot cocoa.  I stayed a bit longer.  Joan joined us for hot cocoa and a cookie.  Mom was concerned about the bubbles on the inside of her mug.

Donna is in the hospital

Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017
I met Jacquie as I came in.  She was waiting for Rudy.  She told me that Donna had fallen and gone to the hospital.  Mom was sitting at the dinner table with Edward.  I asked her several times if she had to go to the washroom, but she said she was fine.
Dinner was a pork roast with gravy, potato wedges and Italian veggies.  Dessert was apple crips.  Yum!  Mom ate everything including half an orange.  She had a healthy appetite.  I explained that Donna was in the hospital, but mom seemed clueless.
After dinner, I took mom to the toilet and she did a poop and pee.  I didn't have to change her diaper.
We played cards.  I asked Lorne to join us, but he declined.
I was going to put the head set on mom, but it was malfunctioning.  I will have to get her a new one.
I brushed mom's teeth and took her for another pee.
We brought some tangerines to Ailene and she was happy.  She had a yellow tape across her door, but she said she wasn't under quarantine.
I left mom with Anka, Joe, George and Lorne.

Tuesday 26 December 2017

Boxing Day

Tuesday, December 26th, 2017
Mom and Donna were sitting at the nurses' station when I arrived around 2:20.  I took them to the cafeteria for coffee.  I pushed Anka and mom pushed Donna.  We sat and sang Silent Night together.  It was nice.  Anka's daughter and grandchildren came to visit and they took her away to be with them.
There was a lady sitting by herself so I told the aide that she could sit with us.  Shanta didn't want to join us, but she waved me over to give me her Digestive biscuits.
Edward came to join us.  Mom didn't like the lady sitting across from her.  She kept mentioning that she was not right.  Mom finished all her tea and asked for more.  The tea lady had already disappeared into the kitchen so I gave mom what was left of my tea and she sipped it.
When she had finished I took her back to the room to brush her teeth and change her diaper.  There were no plastic bags to put the dirty diaper in so I just left it under the sink.  Mom had a pee and a poop.  We ran into Donna on the way back to the dining room.  Donna said she wanted to stay at the nurses' station so I sat her with mom and said good-bye.

Monday 25 December 2017

Christmas lunch

Monday, December 25, 2017
Mom and Donna were seated in the dining room.  I took mom to the washroom.  We made it.  I still changed mom's diaper.  We had chicken soup, spaghetti with meat sauce and salad. Dessert was fruit cocktail.  After lunch we went back to the room.  I tidied up mom's closet.  Mom and I took a nap.  Donna wanted to use the toilet, but I don't know if she ever got any help.  Mom and I went to play card bingo.  About half way through I went to find Donna.  She was in the hallway.  She said she had fallen asleep.  We sat and chatted a bit after our card game.  We talked about New Year's, travel to the Caribbean, Barbados, card games, etc.
We had a little break and went back to the room.   Mom used the toilet.
We had coffee with Lorne.  Mom was singing by herself.  I got her to sing Silent Night and Lorne joined in.  He is a very good singer.  He said he played the violin for 15 years.  He said he was waiting for his son-in-law to pick him up and take him for dinner.  His daughter and grandson showed up too.  They said they would take him out for dinner tomorrow.  They had already had the Christmas dinner on Christmas eve.  They brought their dog with them.  It was a miniature golden doodle.  So cute!  So soft!
My chocolate cookie that I got for coffee was really hard, so I had to soften it in my tea, but it was good.

Sunday 24 December 2017

Poo poo in the pocket

Sunday, December 24th, 2017
Mom and Donna were already seated when I arrived.
I went to drop off my things, check on mom's dying poinsettia, check her toothpaste cap (mine didn't work), put up photo, check laundry hamper, wipe down toilet, etc.
I asked mom if she wanted to go to the washroom.  She responded in the affirmative.  I quickly took her to the visitor's washroom because it is the closest.  Unfortunately she had already soiled her diaper.  I removed her diaper and told her to wait.  Hah!  I rushed to get a diaper and cleaning cloth.  When I arrived, mom had already taken care of things.  I wiped her bum and washed her hands and then took her back to the room to change her diaper and comb her hair.
We got back for dinner.  Salmon, rice and beans.  Lemon meringue pie.  Mom's nose was running so I went to find a tissue.  I looked in her pockets.  I found a paper towel wrapped around toilet paper with poop!  I threw them in the garbage.  You can't take your eyes off her for one second in the bathroom.
Lots of times after she wipes herself with the toilet paper she doesn't know what to do with the soiled tissue.
After dinner I dropped Donna off at the nurses' station.  I brought mom back to the room and brushed her teeth.  We looked at her photo book together and sang some songs.
Then, we went to pick up Donna and go and play cards.  It was fun.  Donna wanted to leave.  I think because she was sitting in a poopy diaper.  She asked me to drop her off at the nurses' station.  I got Irma to take Donna's place.  I think she had fun.
Then, I took mom back to be with Donna and got my coat and things.  Michael went to go and feed the raccoons. Michael was sitting with the girls when I arrived.  He told me that he had put back the table things.  I had totally forgotten.  It was thoughtful of him.
I sat with the girls for a bit and sang some Christmas carols.

Saturday 23 December 2017

Singing

Saturday, December 23, 2017
Mom was sitting at a table in the fish tank room with Donna, Anka, Joan and another lady.
I took mom to the washroom and she took a pee.  Her diaper was clean and hair was not so messy.  The cap is still missing from her toothpaste.  I should probably just give her mine.
I threw out Donna's poinsettia.  I didn't tell her.  I hope she just forgets about it.  Mom's is bad, but is still hanging by a thread.
We went through mom's photo book.  She was responsive and happy.  She was confused about who dad was.  We sang some songs together.  I really have to get the words to some of these Japanese songs.  Then we went to sit with the other ladies and sing Christmas carols.  One lady's shoe fell off so I put it back on for her and she was happy.

Wednesday 20 December 2017

Poinsettias are dying

Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017
Dinner hadn't been served yet when I arrived.  I quickly went to mom's room to water the dying poinsettias, check her laundry, etc.
We had chicken and veggie stir fry with rice.  Dessert was a sour cherry tart.  Mom ate most of her food.  She ate her orange quarters.
We pushed Donna back to the room.  I took mom to the toilet.  She took a poop.  I changed her diaper and cleaned her bum.  The cold water tap was working although it was backwards.  I brushed her teeth. The toothpaste was kind of hard, because she has the wrong cap so it falls off.  I hope mom is getting her teeth brushed.
We went to play cards.  It was fun.
Later someone came to get Donna.  I took mom to sit by the nurses' station and we sang a song.  Yuyakekoyake.  I'll have to learn the words.

Monday 18 December 2017

Inari sushi

Sunday, December 17, 2017
Mom hadn't eaten much of her dinner.  It was my favourite: Greek chicken.
I was getting mom to push Donna's wheelchair back to the room.
Michael spotted us and asked if we were going to play card bingo to which I responded in the affirmative.
Poinsettias are still looking poorly.  I combed mom's hair.  I took her to the washroom and she did a small poop.  I changed her diaper.
I shared my inari sushi with mom.  We ate her leftover orange from dinner.
We played cards in the dining room.  It's the quietest place.
We had fun as usual.

Sunday 17 December 2017

Happy Hour

Friday, Dec. 15, 2017
Dropped in for Happy Hour.  Jacquie was singing Christmas carols with the activities leader.  She waved me in to join them.  We sang Christmas carols.  Then Santos brought a CD with Colombian music and we danced.  Santos got up from his wheelchair.  He explained that he was going to pull me towards him and I was supposed to walk past and then I would walk towards him and he would push me away.  It was interesting.  Jacquie was spinning around in her wheelchair.  I got mom to stand up and dance.  I twirled her around.  At first she was having fun, but then she became self-conscious.  One of the guys at her table told her she was a good dancer.
I had a glass of red wine and some munchies.  Later, I took the ladies back to the room to freshen up.  I checked the ladies' poinsettias.  They are looking rough.
Then I left them at the nurses' station.

Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017
I arrived in time for dinner.  Mom was upset because Donna was preventing her from eating her brownie first.  In the end, mom did not eat her brownie.
Pork with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and italian veggies.  Dessert was a delicious brownie.  I took mom to the visitor's washroom.  We made it.  Her diaper was clean.
I combed mom's hair.  It wasn't so matted today.  I checked her poinsettia.  Still not so good.
I put the headset on her and we walked around.  Mom seemed happy.  I brought the red fleece vest from Eva.  I think mom liked it.
We went to play cards.  Joe had the television in the fish tank room much too loud.
We had fun.  Michael said there was nothing interesting on the television tonight.

Sunday 10 December 2017

Made it

Sunday, December 10, 2017
Mom and Donna were just leaving the table when I arrived.  When we got to the room, I asked mom if she had to go to the washroom.  Yes!  She made it.  She even did a generous amount of poop.  I haven't seen those bum cleaning cloths in a while.  I wonder if they are supposed to use the towel.  Mom wasn't wearing any diapers.  She always tells me she doesn't need one.  I changed mom's t-shirt and pants too.  She had a stain down the front, but it could be it was there before.  Her hair was quite matted at the back.  She had brought back her orange sections from dinner so I ate them.
I brought out the photos I took from last time with Mom, Donna and Anka.  I put them on the bulletin boards.  The poinsettias are starting to look a little rough from neglect.
Then we went to play card bingo.  I rounded up the usual group and we had a good time.  After the game one of the aides took our photo by the Christmas tree.  I sat everyone around the round table in the fish tank room.  Anka joined us.  I gave her the photo and she was very pleased.

Saturday 9 December 2017

Near miss

Saturday, December 9, 2017
Mom was lost when I arrived.  She was stressed.  I took her to the bathroom, but it was too late.  She has trouble sitting on the toilet seat.  She doesn't pull her pants and diaper down far enough.  She peed on the toilet seat and some of it spilled onto the floor.  I cleaned up the spill, changed her diaper, etc.  At least it wasn't poop.  I combed mom's hair.  I let her listen to some Japanese music.  Then, we were ready to go and play cards.  We met Donna on the way to the dining room.  She said she was tired and wanted to go back to the room.  She didn't make it to the toilet either.
I went and set up for card bingo and gathered up Michael and Shanta.  Then I went to go an collect Donna because I thought she had probably changed her mind.  We played card bingo as usual and had fun.  Michael remembered my name.
I was so hungry that I ate a cookie (the one from Thursday) that I found in her underwear drawer.  And I ate her banana from dinner.

Thursday 7 December 2017

New toothbrush and label

Wednesday, December 7, 2017
Everyone was already seated for dinner when I arrived.  Mom wanted to go to the toilet so I took her.  I wiped down the toilet and thought she could use the toilet on her own. I usually put the cloth in the waste paper basket, but I put it in the toilet.  Mom wanted me to flush the toilet.  She doesn't like to see anything in the toilet.  I was having a hot flash so I just wanted to remove my coat, scarf, etc. and put my bags in the closet.  When I got back to mom, she was sitting on the toilet.  I went to get the cleaning cloths, but there weren't any.  Meanwhile, mom had already pulled up her pants.
I had her pull her pants down so I could check her diaper.  It looked clean, but she said it was wet so I went to get a fresh diaper.  Turned out she probably hadn't pulled her pants down properly or sat on the toilet properly so that pee came down the front of the toilet and she peed a bit on her diaper.  I changed her diaper, her trousers and wiped up the toilet seat.
Then we went back to dinner.  Jacquie had already finished and went to talk to Joe.  Judy already knew that Chemsemble wasn't coming.  She knew about the mix-up and said that she had pulled for us.  Mom finished everything on her plate.  We had meatloaf, broccoli and mashed potatoes with gravy.  She didn't eat the dessert which was a custard.
Chris didn't come today because he was sick.
Donna went back to the room on her own because mom and I were still eating.
We caught up with her in the fish tank room because she said she was chatting with someone and got distracted.  We pushed Donna back to the room.
I combed mom's hair, brushed her teeth, wiped her face with a face cloth, watered her plant, etc.  I went to the nurses' station to borrow a marker to write mom's name on her new tooth brush.  This aide gave me a label.  Who knew?  I'll have to remember to bring more toothbrushes.
I took mom and Donna to the dining room to play cards with Michael and Shanta.  We have fun.  Mom keeps saying " I don't know what to do" or "I'm not good at this."  I hope I am not giving her too much stress.  I keep reassuring her saying " I will help you."  She's happy when she wins.

Sunday 3 December 2017

Mom's toothbrush is missing again

Sunday, December 3, 2017
Everybody was seated for dinner when I arrived: mom, Donna, Edward and Jacquie.  Mom said she wasn't hungry so I thought maybe she had to go to the bathroom, but she said she was fine.  We had a pork cutlet with sauerkraut, Italian vegetables, mashed potatoes and a Boston Cream Pie.  Mom just ate a few pieces of orange.  She drank all her milk.
After dinner I got mom to push Donna in her wheelchair to the nurses' station.  I took mom to the washroom.  Her diaper was clean.  She took a pee.  I combed her hair and brushed her teeth.  We went through her photo book.  She was engaged and enjoying the activity.  I brought mom to join Donna and then I went to set up for card bingo.  I rounded up the usual group:  Michael, Shanta Donna and mom.
After cards, Michael went to watch television.  He said he was going to watch Columbo at 8:00 p.m.  I took Shanta back to Alan.  I took mom and Donna back to the nurses' station. I hugged everyone good-bye.

Christmas decorations

Saturday, December 3, 2017
Mom and Donna were having coffee with Betty when I arrived.  I missed coffee.  Mom was trying to explain that there had been a cake as well.  Betty wasn't sure whether or not she had a coffee.  I sniffed hers and it was definitely a coffee.  I shared mom's milk tea.  It was sweet.  Donna asked me several times about the traffic.
I took mom and Donna back to the room.  Mom wanted to use the toilet.  She had peed in her diaper.  She was touching it and complaining.  I changed it for her.  She had a bowel movement in the toilet.  Hurray!  I had to comb her hair because it was quite matted at the back.
I helped Barbara with her Christmas decorations.  She had a tree up.
Then mom and Donna and I went for a walk around to look at Christmas decorations.
I brought Donna back to the nurses' station.  I put the headsets on mom and took her for a walk to the lobby so that she could sing.  She seemed happy.
When we got back to the dining room, Donna was already seated.
