What's your son's name?

Wednesday, November 29, 2017
Mom was standing at the table.  She wouldn't sit down.  I asked her if she had to use the toilet.  Bingo!  We rushed, but I think she had already pooped.  I changed her diaper and cleaned her up.  She always wants to remove her own diaper, but she tries to touch the poop.  She even tries to clean the toilet.  Gross!
We had Shepherd's pie.  Chris' favourite.  And cheesecake with blueberry sauce.  Mom ate all of the Shepherd's pie but she didn't touch the broccoli. I took Donna back to the room, but she seemed bored so I took her back to the nurses' station to sit with Anka.  Mom didn't want to look at her book or listen to her Japanese music so I took her for a walk.  They had decorated for Christmas so I took photos of mom beside the trees.  She quickly became tired of this.
Chris arrived and ate his dinner.  I gathered the girls and Michael and we played card bingo.  I videotaped some of the action and then I got Chris to videotape as well.
When we were leaving, Michael asked me what my son's name was:(

New card player

Monday, November 27, 2017
Mom, Donna and Edward were already seated when I arrived.  Today we had oven fried chicken, broccoli and oven baked potatoes.  Dessert was a black forest cake.  Mom ate the chicken and potatoes, but she didn't touch the broccoli.  She ate half and orange.  She gets food stuck in her teeth and tries to remove it.  I hope that I am successful with the toothbrush.
After dinner I took mom back to the room to use the washroom.  She was clean.  She did one little ball of poop.  Donna asked to use the washroom too.  This time the care aide did change her.  The guys tend to be better than the female aides.
I put the headset on mom and took her for a walk.  Then she just sat and sang along to the music.  Finally we sang a song together.
We played card bingo with the usual group.  Jack joined us.  Joe said he wasn't feeling well. He has a British accent and he seems to be a shit disturber.  Yesterday Joe was yelling at him.  Today Jack was yelling at the care aide.
When I was saying good-bye to mom and Donna, Jack asked for a hug too.  So, I obliged.

Football

Sunday, November 26, 2017
Mom and Donna were already seated at the table when arrived.  Mom mentioned something about going to the bathroom.  We barely made it.  She soiled her diaper slightly, but mostly we were successful.  I changed mom's diaper and we went back for dinner.  We had macaroni and beef casserole, mixed veggies and banana cream pie for dessert.  Edward liked the macaroni and beef casserole.  Jacquie didn't show up.
After dinner mom wheeled Donna to the nurses' station.  I took mom back to the room for another pee and then I put the headset on her and we went for a walk.  After a few minutes she said she was tired so we just sat and she sang along to her music.  I brushed mom's teeth and washed her face.  I put some Vaseline on her face because it was dry.
Michael and Joe were watching football so they didn't want to play cards.  It was just the ladies: mom, Donna, Shanta and me.  They missed Michael.
After cards, mom pushed Donna back to the room.  Donna immediately went to the toilet, but the care aide made her wait.  Mom wanted to walk me out.  I made her wait at the nurses' station because I wanted to drop something off for Jacquie.  When I was walking back I noticed mom had wandered off to the fish tank room.  She was anxious.  She was lost.  I retrieved her and took her back to the room.  This time she said good-bye and went directly to her bed.

Poopie diaper

Saturday, November 25, 2017
Mom and Donna were seated at the table when I arrived.  I asked mom if she had to go to the toilet, but she said she was fine.  I went to drop off my things.  I also wiped down the toilet just in case we needed it.  There was poop on the seat.
Meanwhile, Edward had joined the table and Jacquie too.  I went to use the toilet and get a tea.  When I got back we were chatting.  All of a sudden, mom got grouchy.  I suspected she had to go to the toilet.  This time she answered in the affirmative when I asked her.
We ran to the toilet.  It was too late.  Mom had diarrhea.  She had already pooped in her pants.  She was upset.  I had a hard time keeping her hands away from the diaper.  After I removed the diaper, I noticed that there was poop on her trousers.  I had to take off her shoes and remove her trousers.  I was worried she might have gotten poop on her shirt and wool sweater too.  Luckily the gray wool sweater seemed fine.  There were a few flecks on poop on her shirt.  The poop wasn't too smelly.  I cleaned mom up the best I could.  She wasn't very cooperative.  She said she was clean and didn't understand why I had to wipe her down.  I put a clean pair of diapers on her, put her dirty clothes in the laundry and wiped the toilet down. I shut the door to the room and opened the bathroom door to shield her as she ran to her bed.  I got a pair of trousers for her to put on.
We went back for dinner.  Mom didn't eat very much.  She didn't like the Brussels sprouts, but she would forget that she didn't like them and eat them.  She hardly ate her macaroni salad and salmon.  I ate everything and the bread pudding too.
I got mom to push Donna back to the room.  I brushed mom's teeth.  After dinner she kept saying something was stuck in her teeth.  A piece of food did come out.  I combed mom's hair and looked at her photo book with her.  Mom enjoyed it.  Donna said she had to go to the washroom so I wheeled her in their and she pulled the cord.
I took mom to play card bingo with Michael and Shanta.  Michael was already waiting for us.  I got Joe to play with us because I didn't know when Donna would be back.  Mom won twice, but she was anxious and kept asking what she was supposed to do.  I had to keep telling her to turn the card over.
Donna never showed up.  I took mom back to her room.  Donna was still sitting there.  She hadn't had her diaper changed yet.  A male care aide said he would be on it.  He had just changed Joan.
I said good-bye to the ladies.  Mom walked me to the door of her room and waved.

Mom got a hair cut

Wednesday, November 22, 2017
Mom had already eaten most of her dinner when I arrived.  Both mom and Donna sported new haircuts. I had eaten half my dinner when mom said she had to go to the washroom.  We made it!  Mom took a poop.  I changed her diaper.  We got back and finished dinner.  It was a "Chinese" chicken "stir fry."  Dessert was a banana mousse tart.
We had a lot of time after dinner today.  We wheeled Donna to the nurses' station.  I took mom back to the room and we went through her photo album.  We read through the ant and the grasshopper, but she didn't want me to read her any more stories in Japanese.  I put the headset on her and we walked around while she sang.
We played cards.  Chris joined us after he had dinner so I let him play my hand.  I let him call the cards for a couple of games while I went to the bathroom to freshen up.  He told me that I had bad breath.  How embarrassing.
After cards we left mom and Donna with Michael in the television room.
Chris was wondering why Michael was at the facility.  He thinks Michael is "normal."  But that may be in comparison to mom and Donna.

Deluge

Sunday, November 19, 2017
It was pouring rain.  Mom had cleaned her plate when arrived.  It was my favourite dinner.  Greek chicken.  I missed it. Barbara said that I should go and ask for a plate.
I had mom push Donna back to the room.  Mom wasn't wearing a diaper.  I put one on her.
I combed mom's hair.  I replaced her toothpaste.
We played cards.  I asked Santos to join us, but he only played one game.
After cards, mom said she had to take a pee.  Luckily we made it.
I had mom push Donna into the fish tank room to await their hot cocoa.
The bus came on time.  It was pouring rain and cold.

Poinsettias

Saturday, November 18, 2017
Charlene and I dropped off the poinsettias that I picked up from the St. Thomas Moore craft fair.
Mom and Donna were having tea and cookies with Barbara and another lady.
I went back after dinner.  When I arrived mom and Donna had gone back to their room.  Donna was getting her diaper changed.  Mom was sitting quietly on the bed.  I combed her hair.  Mom and Donna said that mom didn't need to go to the washroom.
We went to play cards.  We played in the dining area.  It was mostly clean.
I found a tube of toothpaste in mom's closet and two pairs of pants which were a little too long.  Mom didn't seem to like them.  I think she has enough pair of pants for now.

Thursday 16 November 2017

New toothbrush

Wednesday, November 15, 2017
Dinner was already served when I arrived.  I cut up mom's chicken for her.  She didn't seem to have much of an appetite.  She did eat all her green beans, but hardly touched the chicken or the potatoes.  She hardly even had any of her drinks.  She insisted she did not have to use the toilet.  It was Maryland chicken, oven-roasted potatoes, green beans and strawberry shortcake.  Yum!
I get mom to push Donna's wheelchair.  It's good exercise for her.
Mom's diaper was wet so I changed it.  Otherwise she seemed pretty clean.
Her toothbrush seems to have gone missing so I changed it.
I hope she is brushing her teeth.  I'm leaving earlier now.  I don't want a ride from Alan.
We played cards in the dining area because it was clean and Joe had the television so loud in the fishtank room.  Chris showed up.  He said there was too much food and he couldn't finish the whole meal.
We had a fun game.  Mom was confused as usual as was Donna.
After the game, we left mom and Donna at the nursing station.

Sunday 12 November 2017

Miyuki and Hikari come for a visit

Sunday, November 12, 2017
Donna was sitting alone at the table when I arrived.  I asked her where mom was and Donna said that mom went to the washroom.  I went to look for mom.  She had just arrived at the nurse's station and she was in distress.  She was relieved to see me.  She didn't know where the washroom was.
Luckily we made it in time.  Her diaper was still dry.   There was a slight stain.  She did one small ball of poop and lots of pee.  Disaster averted.
We went through mom's photo book with Miyuki and Hikari.  Then it was time to go to dinner.  Because there were 3 of us joining mom for dinner we were seated in the communal kitchen.
Hikari really enjoyed his meal.  He ate mom's mashed potatoes and mine too and our Boston cream pie as well. He said the salmon was the best he had tasted in a long time.
Mom had a good appetite.
After dinner we went back to the room so I could take mom for a pee.  We bumped into Donna along the way.  Donna had to use the toilet too so mom and I used the toilet in the other room.  Luckily Larry was able to assist Donna so that she could come and play cards with us.
Hikari played with us.  I was the caller.  Then Hikari became the caller.  We played for about half an hour and then Miyuki and Hikari went home.
I brought mom and Donna out to the nurses' station to join the Croatian lady.  I was going to take mom for another pee, but she insisted she didn't have to.
After I gave mom and Donna a hug good-bye, the Croatian lady asked for a kiss so I had to oblige.
I have to remember to put Vaseline on mom's face next time.

Saturday 11 November 2017

Saturday card bingo

Saturday, November 11, 2017
Mom and Donna were watching the news when I arrived.  I got mom to push Donna in the wheelchair to their room.  I changed mom's wet diaper.  Her hair was not tangled as it usually is.
We played card bingo.  Mom can recognize the suit, but she doesn't seem to understand that she needs an exact match.  Donna seems to have a vision or focus problem.  Mom also doesn't understand she is supposed to turn the card over when she gets a match.  She needs to be prompted a lot.
After card bingo I took the girls back to the room.  Again I got mom to push the wheelchair.  I brushed mom's teeth and washed her face.  I forgot to take her for a pee again.
Donna said she was very tired and wanted to get ready for bed.  Mom was in a good mood as usual.

Wednesday 8 November 2017

Donna goes to the washroom by herself

Wednesday, November 8, 2017
Mom had drank all her beverages and mine too when I arrived.  She kept saying she wasn't hungry and had not touched her food, but I suspect it is because she didn't know how to use the cutlery.  I cut up her baked potato and her meatloaf and eventually she started to eat it.  She ate most of her veggies too.  Edward had eaten all his meatloaf.  Donna ate everything.  Jacquie was sitting with her friends Rudy and Diane.
After dinner we went back to the room.  Mom and I went through her photo book. Mom had a pee.  Her diaper was clean for a change.  Donna wanted to use the washroom.  I had my doubts.  I went to check back on her after I went to set up for card bingo.  I had to help her pull up her diaper.  I used rubber gloves.  I noticed that there were some stains on her pants.
Everyone likes the black top with the sparkly silver bits on it.  Even Michael commented on it.  Donna asked me about the top and I told her that I bought it for mom's birthday.
We all played card bingo and it was fun.  I played because we were missing a player to make 5.  Joe was watching television.  Chris came and joined us.  I asked him to drive me to the skytrain station.

Sunday 5 November 2017

Fall back

Sunday, November 5, 2017
I arrived way too early.  I forgot to change my watch.  I was surprised to see mom and Donna have coffee.  I joined them for a weightlifting activity at 3:00.  After the activity, I took mom for a walk to the park.  It was sunny, but cold.  Mom was okay.  We came back in 15 minutes.  Donna went to the washroom by herself while we were gone. I was surprised she didn't need help.  She can't even get up from her wheelchair.
We went to sit in the dining room.  It was way too early.  We sat and drank our beverages.  Eventually coffee and tea arrived and I served everyone at our table except for Jacquie who had not yet arrived.
We had a reconstituted pork cutlet, sauerkraut, mixed Italian veggies and mashed potatoes with gravy.  Boston cream pie for dessert.  I found it a little too sweet and a bit dry.
After dinner, I took mom to the washroom again.  Her diaper was fairly clean.
I talked to the nurse about diaper changes.  She said that residents were changed twice per shift.  I asked her what a shift was.  She said it was 8 hours.  I was thinking that residents were only changed twice a day.  There's got to be a better way.  I watched a youtube video on how a wheelchair ridden person was changed.  I would feel violated.
I started the card game early because I wanted to go home early.  It was fun.  I brushed mom's teeth and washed her face and toileted her. I know she will have hot cocoa and a sweet later, but I figured I would just get her ready all the same.

Thursday 2 November 2017

Diaper change

Wednesday, November 2, 2017
Everyone was seated at the table when I arrived.  Rudy was there too.  Mom had polished off all of my and her beverages too.  Although she complained that she wasn't hungry, she ate most of her food.  It was shepherd's pie. broccoli, cauliflower and corn.  Dessert was cheese cake.
Jacquie ordered fish, but she didn't get it until we had all finished our meal.
I took mom to the washroom and she had a pee.  She had also peed in her diaper so I changed it. She didn't want to put another diaper on and she was wearing a pair of clean underpants so I let her go without the diaper. Her hair was clean, but quite matted at the back so I combed the front and mom combed the back.
We went through her photo book.
Donna said she had to take a poo so I informed the care aides.  Finally one responded, but she said she was just going on her break.
I went to play cards with our smaller group.  Joe joined us today so it was more fun.  The men enjoyed playing with Chris.  Chris enjoyed his dinner.  Unfortunately, he wasn't able to help Rudy with his new phone.
After cards, I went to check in on Donna and she had been changed, but now she was in her pajamas and she didn't want to join us.
Nobody wanted hot cocoa so I had a little sip of mom's and ate a bite of her mandarin orange cake.  We sat around and talked about music in the old days.
I took mom back to the room for a pee, but she didn't produce any.  I was worried because she wasn't wearing a diaper.  She complained that the toilet seat was too cold.
We sat in the hallway by the nurses' station and sang Japanese folk songs.  A resident told me that she had to take a poo.  I notified an aide.  By the time she got help, she had probably already soiled her diaper.
When it was time to go, mom was a little upset.  I took her back to her room and a nurse was there to give her meds.
